August-soft site has announced that their hit game,「Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai」will be getting an anime adaptation.



Synopsis from Micchi's Blog

When he was young, Kyoutarou wanted to read all the magic books in the world, but they were all in the magic library. Someone told him that to get there, he must be kind to everyone and bring happiness to their hearts. He received a bookmark, which was his entrance ticket to the magic library.

One day while heading to school, he received a text from the ‘shepherd’ (hitsujikai) telling him that his fate was going to change. He had a vision of an accident at the tram station and helped prevent any injuries by calling away a nearby girl. That girl, Tsugumi, later came to the Library Club room, which he was a member of, to thank him and also to ask for his help to make Shiomi Academy more fun. It seemed that she had also received a text from the shepherd, who is rumoured to appear before people who try their best to grant their wishes. One by one, other students also join their group with the shepherd’s guidance.

^ Actually, if they had a good writer, I won't mind original anime plot if they can expand more on 'Hitsujikai', something which I felt have great potential for more interesting drama but was lacking in the game.

Anime studio according to the website is Hoods Entertainment (Fantasista Doll, Blazblue, Gaworare) with music by Active Planets and series composition by Kiyoko Yoshimura (Riddle Story of Devil). The director and character design will be done by Team Nico.

The first episode wasn't good -_-

The background (nameless/faceless students) have pretty much no detail
The opening feels cheaply made (the song is nice though)
We also have the issue with the art
Most of the bgm's weren't that memorable , although there were some remixed bgm that were ok

Plus I didn't like what they did at the end of the episode

It was a bit meh, but it did shows hope though. The visuals are really dull, there's not enough detail to be shown and the background characters colored in single colors was just an excuse to hide the lazy work Hoods has done since Gaworare. On the other hand, the animation was really well-done but it wasn't special when combined with these kind of visuals.

The music may sounds good but otherwise was forgettable and nothing stands out when I watched the opening, it's like they copied stuff from the only key visual found in the website, plastered in the background along with a possible amount of reused footages with color-coded character silhouettes.

The story might be written decently later on, but I feel like that aside from Junji Majima's voice, Kyotaro isn't very interesting to me, Takamine was much better and he's so cool when he beats up the judokas during an argument at the school garden. The last few minutes are the best thing to come in the series so far, I'm very interested in how the writers will handle the premise involving Kyotaro searching after a magic book located somewhere in an endless library.

Even with that, this has to be the least interesting premiere from 3 eroge adaptations airing this season in my opinion, I really like Hoods but I feel like they don't care much about their works anymore visuals-wise. Hope it gets somewhat better in some areas though.

Interesting choice for the story opening.
Of course it has some good old fan service right off the bat.
An airhead and her hard-nut-to-crack friend appear.
This was classified as romance.
Looks more like possible harem with plenty of fan service & a twist.
Not my thing, skipping it.

Somehow I got this strange retro vibe of this one. It's so generic and 'by the numbers', and the lacklustre animation could have been done any time in the last ten years.
I might give it another episode to see if a story breaks out, it's not that I disliked it but I had a 'same old same old' feeling.

Instant pick-up for me, because I'm a big fan of characters and stories with futuresight.

Pretty solid start. Kakei is a good enough male lead. Reasonable personality and not insanely phased by every little thing. Pretty handy ability to see when bad things are coming and be able to do something about it.

Kind of a cliche way to set up the obvious main couple, but that's alright. Guess the result will be him trying to understand her all the way into a relationship .

Not a bad setup. Have this Shepard situation hanging around as well. I'll keep on watching for now.

Actually, the by the numbers and retro feel to it were some of things I found pleasant about it!

Well, there are not many things that stand out for me, but neither was there anything outright negative; still, I like this kinda stuff in a very general way, so I will give it a few more eps, at least. Who knows, its stability and predictability may not work out at all for me or it could be a charming distraction and click with me.
