This is why superheroes are overpowered.
Guns? Mr. Justice laughs in the face of danger and shoots you with a Justice Beam. He even drives Optimus Prime with a new paint job and hums the National Anthem...in Japan!!! Best character in the show. Now where's Batman???

Oh my god, this was even better than what I expected! I didn't expect the Evil Twin to die just like that (or is it "die" now?), I didn't expect C*ptain Am*rica bringing Truth, Justice and the American Way plus the big revelation, BUT I did kind of expect the government being baddies, after all, you can't trust the system! XD The revelation itself is pretty great, I can't wait to see what happens now.
Also, just when I started to wonder how Gotou and the girls would be re-incorporated into the story... good job! |

OK, this took an unexpected turn. Now it looks like the whole thing from Guillotine Gorilla onwards has just been a ploy by the government to boost their popularity and unite the people behind a common enemy, and Masayoshi and his superhero friends have been played like a fiddle throughout.
It all got a bit 'Watchmen' all of a sudden. Brilliant! |

Hmm, but if all of the monsters from the gorilla onward have been created by the government (I thought the show said that only From Beyond had but not 100% sure) then how are the superheros also real? Or is it like justice-guy said, that the heroes were also created by the government all along?
(and if so, just think Hazama, if you had become an actor instead of a model you could have become a legal superhero that way after all! )

And the Flamen Base was from the government too, so yes, the heroes were created by the government. Of course, you'd think it would be a bit late in the game for the government to deny involvement with the heroes, after they spent months patting themselves on the back about the heroes. Don't people remember? Quote:

The evil twin twist fell flat on its face. I have no clue what was even the point of that. The big reveal that everything was orchestrated by the government was great though, I didn't expect that. Fucking politicians, you can't trust them. However, I'm not sure this makes sense. We know the enemies were using alien technology, where does it come from if From Beyond was created by the Japanese government? Is the Prime Minister actually an alien? I suppose the scene with Blue sort of implied that.
This show is nuts. I love it.

I have mixed feelings about the latest twist.
On the one hand, it does help somewhat in explaining a lot of the more unrealistic elements in this show. And Mr. Justice is indeed an excellent side-character and this was a great way to bring him in. On the other hand, this sort of twist and narrative setup is kind of overdone in superhero fiction, really. I know that Samurai Flamenco has been very trope-based as it is, of course, but what we're getting now is a trope narrative that's difficult to lampoon due to its inherent darkness/seriousness. And superheroes vs. a corrupt state/politician was interesting the first few times I saw it, but it really lost some of its charm to me after Marvel's big Civil War event. To be fair, I can't think of too many narratives like this in anime and/or involving Japanese/Eastern hero narratives. Tiger and Bunny had something somewhat similar, but not quite on the same level. So there is some potential here, enough for me to remain cautiously optimistic. This latest episode itself was pretty good, so that was a plus. As for evil twin - It seems very likely to me that he was a clone (or something close to that) of Hazama, created by the government, in order to help in its plans to frame Hazama and the other heroes. He himself was probably not that important, and was just a plot device used to transition into the latest twist. I honestly found that the most effective part of the twist for sheer surprise. It's not everyday one twist is used briefly simply to transition into a very different twist.

damn you prime minister >_<
Wonder how much more they can escalate things? Too bad we might be in for 2 episodes of standard fugitive episodes though, I was never a fan of those, but maybe they have give this common episode setup the standard Flamenco flair.

Lol, this anime is pulling out all the superhero cliches, one at a time...
We had Beyond Flamenco giving him some cryptic advice. Mister Justice is a nod to Capt. 'Murica. The setting/scenario changed from Super Sentai(monster of the day battles)/Superman(celebrated by the people) to a Batman setting. He's now a vigilante that will fight crime, while also evading the government. Shit is getting real. If its one thing I'll give to Samumenco, this anime really knows how to keep the twists coming. Just when you thing it can't outdo itself, it proves you wrong. The plot isn't stagnant or doesn't settle for one common scenario. It keeps changing scenarios every few episodes, that's why it keeps itself interesting. I enjoyed this episode, it was funny & the twist made it worthwhile. Bonus points for the cliffhanger ending because I am now eager for next week's episode.
