Well they're certainly rushing things, but so far they're doing a good job condensing the story. I doubt anime-only viewers will notice anything's amiss.

And I've gotta say, Hayami's performance is fantastic. A show like this lives and dies by how well the seiyuu are at conveying different characters, and she nailed it. Not only is the distinction between Shiraishi and Yamada-in-Shiraishi clear, but even Yamada-in-Shiraishi-pretending-to-be-Shiraishi comes across as a different performance.

Its funny because i'm not sure how many anime-only viewers can really take interest in a series like this because its quirky in truth for all the wrong reasons. Some people can enjoy the quirks but many wont and the fact is the quirkiness gets worse the longer it goes.

Wow, Hayamin. Just wow. I look forward to all the remaining seiyuus' performance as they swap.
Though if they really ultra-condense the entire part 1 to 1 cour, it will be full of suck.

Ep 01

Somehow repeatedly testing the idea of falling down the stairs as a foolproof method to switch personalities struck my funny bone for some reason.

Still though ... what an ... inconvenient special ability.

The rest of the ep itself was kinda ... erm ... just okay. No great shakes thus far, but not horrible or anything. Maybe I will give the next few eps a try.

I'm still on the fence here, but at least this story does the "switching bodies" meme in a slightly new way -- a bit less fraught, and with the switchees able to frankly investigate their new bodies. Anyway, we are evolving nicely. And the new girl that shows up at the end is apparently played by Uchida Maaya (see my avatar and sig), so there's that.

I've long resented the fact that Misao (as Yuuki Aoi calls her) has never gotten the singing career her beautiful singing voice deserves. But her seiyuu work is getting so good now that I'm almost over my resentment. She's now one of the best, and her long list of credits (25 roles last year and 14 already this year) shows that producers recognize it.

... this is a pretty bad adaptation. Even worse than the drama if I might add.

Disappointing. I was really looking forward to this series, but the rushing, condensing, and detail cuts are a huge turn off. Shiraishi seems like she got shoveled into the harem bag and lost her place as the main heroine. Her entire personality and character development arc got stripped down to nothing, making her seem like a hollow bitch with some fleeting attachment to the MC. Miyamura jumps to conclusions unrealistically fast, and butts his face in when the audience doesn't even know who the hell he is or why he's so interested in Yamada to begin with.

I think I will stick with the manga.

Maybe I should be thankful Pretty Face never got an anime adaptation... That's a very scary thought.

Thought that everything about this was really bad...
probably the worst 01 episode of the season so far for me.

This reminds me of Oreimo where Kirino's book is slated to become an anime.

"Yeah, we'll make your series 1 cour because it's too risky, and we'll rewrite the characters to appeal to the hornies with short attention spans, not your actual fans."

This series breaks the #1 rule of anime adaptations: Don't insult your existing fanbase. A series will die a horrible death if that happens. Then they're going to be like.. "Oh look, BD sales are flopping.. Well, good thing we made it 13 episodes." These people will never learn. Although I probably can't expect a Wit Studio adaptation from everyone.

Glad I haven't seen the source material because this episode was great! I almost skipped this one, glad I didn't!

Wowww, as a person who has never touched the manga nor the LA, I thought this was an amazing episode 1. Yamajo was definitely my most hyped show for this season, and episode one was great for me. I'm kinda sad that manga fans aren't enjoying this, so I am definitely avoiding this thread in the future to prevent negative comments from influencing my personal enjoyment. People weren't happy with how fast D-Frag was going too but ... I greatly enjoyed that as well.

Guess I'm in the minority when it comes to adaptations once again, but I'm getting really tired of gensakuchu coming into the anime threads having unrealistic expectations and being partypoopers. I'm glad you guys came early to do the pooping before the party began though, at least this is better than coming in midway and annoying everyone mid-celebrations! Based gensaku-fans!

I love this! It is a lot of fun and seems to have a lot of promise. The comedy is good so far, and the feeling I get from the characters are great.

I'm guessing the new girl at the end is not one of the seven witches, who are quite obvious from the ending and intro. I'm curious to see how she fits in with all of this. Actually, why is this show called Yamada and the seven witches? Do each of the witches give Yamada a different ability? Well, I look forward to finding out.

While Hayami's performance was indeed top-notch, I do think this is a rushed episode.

Why did Shiraishi agree to switch bodies and take Yamada's test for him? What does she get in return? The anime didn't do such a stellar job covering this part, so I feel like she is nothing more than some random harem member.

As an anime only viewer I enjoyed this episode, I even laugh a couple of times.

As an anime only watcher I enjoyed the first episode and like the comedy. Although I do not get why she agreed to take his test for him.

Really fast for me. I wish they would take the time to sloooow it down.
But another part of me is also regretting that I read the manga seeing the positive feedback from many anime-only watchers. It seems to be catered for gathering new readers.

D-Frag adaptation was ok. I read it too and I don't remember posting a complaint about it. For D-Frag, people were just complaining about missing their favorite moments, or missing certain character-development specifics which actually weren't that major considering the big picture. Episode 1 was okay too except for the already mentioned unexplained (snipped) Urara's willingness to help Yamada.

The question in my mind right now is whether they will condense the whole of part 1 (which has more than enough content for 2 cours) into 1 cour. If they do, there's a good chance of it turning it into a trainwreck, since every development is inter-linked. I'll be considerably surprised if the story still remains coherent if the condensation does happen. But we'll see.

I'll join the anime-only viewer group and also confirm that statement Really liked it but damn, ongoing manga at 153 chapters. Will prolly pick it up after the anime if it proves fun enough.

As someone who has read the manga I feel this Ep wasn't too bad maybe a little rushed but I dread how much will need to be cut/changed to fit the first arc into one cour as the opening implies and it's clear they aren't likely going to draw out any mystery since there will barely be enough Eps for each of the 7 to be spotlighted for more then 1.5 episodes

This anime could be good or bad depending on how far they go into the manga, im personally hoping it ends properly and never has a second season because the manga actually gets worse as it goes on.
