Well, he blocked me too, and I haven't asked him anything in a while. Only thing I did there lately was give a admitedly snarky response to a tweet by Donald Drumpf. Apparently Kobayashi is a fan of the orange sheeto... sad when people who you had some admiration for turn out to be fans of racist loudmouth idiots. But hey, that's the world we live in now.

The two carriers look interesting, but while the first onw is more battle carrier-like with some off bay placement, the second is more just a carrier since it removes all but the two forward turrets in place of many, many launch bays. It is also substantially larger than the Apollo Norm due to all that extra mass. It lacks the new Earth fleet's main operating feature....the wave motion gun.

Funimation announced that it will stream an English dub (called Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202). Further details weren't specified. So far, Crunchyroll has not said whether it will stream the Japanese language version like it's doing for 2199. (source)

Funimation announced that 2202 is part of their Spring 2018 Simuldub series (while Crunchyroll also announced today that it will stream the subtitled version), but the exact date was TBA. Most likely, 2202 will be somewhere around late May or mid June (as Summer begins on June 21st in the States). Meanwhile, the current run of 2199 ends with Episode 26 on May 2nd. No news if Funi has picked up Voyage to Remember and/or Odyssey of the Celestial Ark.

Neat. The pattern from Star Blazers repeats itself.

Akagi is very handsome much better than the Apollo!
Yes it lacks wave motion cannons but a carrier's role is fighter and bomber support not front line combat, those shock cannons are suffice for self defence!

Adamantine is the true battlecarrier provides space superiority support but still capable of front line battle action

Indeed. And we get to benefit once again, too!

The dubbed version of Yamato 2202 will have to go on hiatus at some point. There are 14 episodes already out with 4 more coming out in Japanese theatres in May 25th, home video about a month after that. IF Funimation starts streaming 2202 right after 2199 ends (episode 26 will be released on May 2nd), best case scenario will allow them to release the episodes of chapter 5 from August 15 onward. This does allow enough time for the home video release to run its usual course. VVVVID.it usually releases the italian subtitled episodes at about that time frame (though they delayed the chapter 4 release for a month). But then, they either wait for chapters 6 and 7 to run their theatrical and home video course, and release each set of 4 episodes with an appropriate time delay (about 1.5 to 2 months after the home video release), or they split the series in half, release part one now and part two either after 2202 has ran its course or next year.

As August Ragone has said, Funimation hasn't made any announcement for a possible dub of the movies. Streaming those for a few weeks each would buy them some time. But if we take their spring release statement literaly, they will start streaming 2202 in less than two months, and have to make a decision by then.

So read through the Apollo Norm info sheet and it does indeed lose a lot of missile and torpedo launchers that were amidships. To make up for it, it has 18 large torpedo launchers that are situated on the connecting superstructure between the upper hanger and the hull, which are the big panels you can see.

I have a question about the Funimation dub.
IS the dub an exact (or as exact as possible) translation from the Japanese original.
Or, are they using the names Argo, Derek Wildstar, etc. from the original Voyager Star Blazers.
Thank you in advance.

No Argo, no Derek Wildstar, none of the American character names from the old series.

It is an almost exact translation from the Japanese. About the only Star Blazers thing that not in the subtitled versions that I can think of is converting the space kilometers to megameters, which is still accurate for measurements.

Thank you both.
Does anybody know if Funi will make it available on DVD or Blueray?
I'd like to buy it.
I already own SBY 2199, and the movie (original Japanese with subs), but I'd like to have a copy with both a dubbed and subbed version on them if that will be possible.

One thing that is needed is a translation of the weapons and other equipment the Apollo Norm carries now that the model kit is out with its much more detailed booklet. A lot of the detail weapons and such for Andromeda came off that sort of booklet, and at this point even the Japanese wiki hasn't updated with that information as of yet.

The only real major bits are that it loses the 16 short torpedo tubes and 16 missile launchers that were amidships and replacing them with 18 large torpedo tubes on the connecting superstructure between the hanger and the main hull, losing the rear diffusion pulse laser turret, and having 800 crew vs. 200 on Andromeda. Everything else is the same.

The aircraft corps are arranged in 10 squadrons of 18 planes.

In other news, Twitter has some pretty neat modeling projects going on!

This dude's making some Andromeda-based projects. The simpler one is an Aldebaran with twin-barreled turrets instead of triple; these are supposed to be 51cm sized.

The second is, well, I'll let you see for yourself:

This person's done some stuff based on Apollo Norm, such as straight up attaching Apollo Norm's head hanger onto Dreadnought. The absolute madman! In addition he's added those bulge plane launchers that Apollo Norm had.

In the same vein, this person's making an Apollo Norm with the side bulge launchers. Pretty neat.

They're also making a flip-able deck for the Gelvades.

So far I will need to remove the light missiles and missile defense systems and replace them with the type 2 torpedoes on the tower. I actually already did the missiles its the defensive missiles I need to remove.

Wait, The Apollo Norm still has the ten underside missiles like the Andromeda?

That means I've taken off too many missiles and need to put a few back, while still removing the side missiles only, and adding in the 18 torpedo tubes.

As for the model builds (I couldn't see them earlier as I was at work using a small phone.) That is very ambitious. Especially the port and starboard launch trays.

The Shunran (or is it Haruna?) will take a lot of work, but I have seen people with them among the other custom models and Space Battleship Arizona.

EDIT:

In thinking over the modification to the game system and some missile grouping rules it has, I have determined that the Apollo Norm has two more offensive missile tubes than Andromeda, but loses some of her defensive missiles and the after AA battery.
I was going to make the tower's 18 torpedo tubes the same as the bow tubes, but realized that the hatches are basically the same as the ten underside tubes on Andromeda. So instead I have the tower's 18 tubes as missile tubes replacing the 16 missile launchers that Andromeda has normally. It is still missing the 16 small torpedo tubes, but those were what I was classifying as the missile defense systems, because game wise, Andromeda has way too many missiles already. And too many missile types if I make those 16 tubes as the second type of torpedo the Earth fleet uses normally. So many weapons that it can't fire them in a regular turn, so I converted those to defensive missiles only so they have a purpose. (in theory I should make those same type of tubes on Yamato as missile defense systems, but its Yamato and we see her use them for everything).

So for the Star Blazers Fleet Battle System game we have the following offensive systems

Andromeda:

two wave motion guns (bow)
4 triple barrel improved heavy compression shock cannons (two fore, two aft)
4 three emitter broadside heavy shock/energy cannons (two port, two starboard)
4 Graviton Spread Launchers (bow)
1 quad tubed rapid fire Type 2 torpedo launcher (bow)
2 quad tubed Type 2 torpedo launchers (bow)
4 twin tubed Type 2 Cosmo Subspace torpedo launchers (two port, two starboard)
4 quad tubed Light Missile launchers (two port, two starboard)
2 quint tubed Light Missile launchers (ventral)

Apollo Norm:

Two wave motion guns (bow)
2 triple barrel improved heavy compression shock cannons (two fore)
4 three emitter broadside heavy shock/energy cannons (two port, two starboard)
4 Graviton Spread Launchers (bow)
1 quad tubed rapid fire Type 2 torpedo launcher (bow)
4 twin tubed Type 2 Cosmo Subspace torpedo launchers (two port, two starboard)
4 quint tubed Light Missile launchers (two ventral, one port tower, one starboard tower)
2 quad tubed Light Missile launchers (one port tower, one starboard tower)

I haven’t watched the new series yet, finishing 2199 but is Kodai and Mori together still in 2202 or did they break up?
