Can't type my password to login to my laptop

I can't seem to type my password in the login screen to login into my laptop. The password bar is usually highlighted but it's not anymore. I can't use the ease of access as I can't click on anything but the mouse is moving. It's a windows 10. Can anyone help?

Edit: accidentally typed passed instead of password for the heading. If one of the mood could change that it would be great

You may be able to tab through to the Ease of Access section and press Enter to open the onscreen keyboard. You may also try connecting the mouse (or a different mouse) into a different USB port or directly to the computer (if you're using a hub).

Too bad you're not still on Windows 7, because at least there you could try logging into Safe Mode. Incidentally, did this issue occur after an update?

Tabbing to ease of access didn't work either.

I managed to fix it by holding shift and restarting. Somethings got cleared out and now it's running fine.

And yes there was a recent update.
