Wow... Mahiro is being ridiculously ambitious. And only because he think it is Aika's fault that things end up this way, and that she is indebted to Hanemura.
But he does have a point. Things could have been different if Aika is willing to share her secrets Mahiro earlier.

Yes, Hakaze did. As for the reaction... well, there is a reason why Hanemura is so angry at them.

What's Mahiro's plan?
I only managed to see part of Yoshino and Aika flashback, some Hakaze and Yoshino conversation and the last page with Hanemura writing a letter to himself or to a familiar (I read Megumu but idk if it's his family name)

Hanemura is writing the letter to his girl friend.
Mahiro is basically saying, "screw it, let's blow up the tree with all means possible. The world well gate us no matter what we do."
But he promises Hanumra that he'll change the world within 30 years that eventually the people will honor his action for destroying the Genesis Tree.

That's what I don't get about his reasoning....he says eventually humanity will turn on itself and finish what the Tree started. Why? The Genesis Tree brings what benefit to humanity?

I suppose it has something to do with the tree of Genesis. Someone with more knowledge might be able to give you a better answer. Although you'd if she was insanely powerful that she was able beat Hakase without breaking a sweat shouldn't she had been able to defeat it herself? Or what was needed was the so called domino effect from her death, i.e Yoshino and Mahiro meeting Hakase...ect ect?

Genesis Tree, even it'll only doing it for a short period, is bay sitting the humanity fairly well.
And if humanity lose the Tree's protection now, it is more than likely they'll bring disaster upon themselves.
Since the humanity is getting screwed either way, then why not choose to do the right thing regardless of the consequences.

The thing is that humanity gets spoiled and all that.

And yet they still cheer when Hanemura was going round the globe destroying all those tendrils....how fickle can they get

Isn't that a characteristic of the masses?
After they are reminded of the low crime rate and less wars, suddenly they want the tree to baby sit them again.

But forget the masses, I just want Hanemura to grow a backbone. His attitude of "I am doing this because I have to" makes me feel uncomfortable. Especially when Mahiro is overburdening himself with responsibilities.
