Currently Light novel does have 7 volumes and the eight volume will be released on July 20.

Sypnosis:

God abandoned the world on Sunday. As a result, nobody in the world can die or reproduce. A little girl, Ai, is the gravekeeper for a village. She has prepared 47 graves for the eventual deaths of every member of the village. Later, a boy who identifies himself as "Hampnie Hambart, the 'Man-eating Toy'," which is coincidentally the name that Ai's mother left behind as the name of her father, arrives in the village and slaughters everybody. Just what is going on?


Manga is currently running at fujimi's dragon age with 3 volumes.

TV anime is currently airing for this year's summer season.

From what I saw from the manga and the anime, definitely not harem. i never really understood what slice-of-life meant, but the novel has a few philosophical elements concerning life and death.

It's like this. God granted the wish of humans not to die, which is a classic case of asking for eternal life instead of eternal youth. You won't die, but you'll keep aging, which is pretty gross. It's the same thing here. Human bodies naturally decay with age, not dying doesn't change this and usually humans die during the process, but since they don't die anymore the result is humans continuing to live beyond the lifespan of their bodies. So not dying doesn't mean you're body won't decay.

Her name is Ulla Euleus Hecmatika. Her mother, Meila Hecmatika hated her dead husband, the nomadic lifestyle, and the "Hecmatika" name that she was left with. She had a weak body that wasn't suitable to give birth, but since after God abandoned the world that "night" 15 years ago, infants had became more important than ever, so she continued with her pregnancy.
She died before she could give birth. The doctor obviously would prioritize the babies, and her belly was cut. She then cursed the world, and wished that people should just die. The doctor and villagers ignored that, but a baby, innocently heard that wish. She was Ulla.
"Kill them!"
And so she became Koroshiohake (Incarnation of Murder).

Oh, she had an older twin sister, Celica. She rejected her mother's wish, and obtained the power of Life. Ulla's abilities had no effects on her. Doctors and scholars thought that the baby had "stopped" time, and so she stayed a baby. Celica was put inside a black sarcophagus in castle underground.
When Scar looked at the baby that Ulla was holding, the baby cried. A cry of baby was heard after a long while.
Scar breast-fed her. Ai asked Scar to return the baby to the Dead, but Scar refused, saying that the baby was hers.

Ulla, like Ai, was deceived all her life. Kiriko, the Princess' aide, friend, and teacher, was asked by the Pentagram and the elders to create a lie. He had to Create a World, lying to her by making her believed that everyone around her was the Living, and that her eyes had no meanings.
Ulla had killed tens of thousands of people without her realizing. Those that had been killed became the citizen of Ortus. She was lied that her gazes and voices only affect the Dead, so the eyes and the mouth were needed to be covered.
She communicated through pens and papers.

When Ai revealed the truth to her, she wasn't angry. Ulla believed that Ai had similarities with her, but Ai was not the Princess.
She told the leg-kicking loli that she is a free person. A person that hated cage. The bird of the sky.
But Ulla wasn't something like those. She liked the cage called Ortus.

Ai cried, as she thought that she had came to save the Princess, but she was saved instead. Kiriko added there was no rule saying the people that is going to save the world (Ai) can't be saved by it.
Kiriko was afraid that Ulla would hate her own voices and eyes, that she would destroy them, but she forgot how kind she was.

Kiriko Zubreska. The Hamburger Bastard (Mr. Lion, vol 2 pg 237)
Once, there were 5 friends that lived together, but when that bastard God left the world, their dream of having someone to succeed them was crushed.
They came to a witch, and she asked if they wanted a child, but the Witch distorted their dream:
The right eye came from Veruera, the left eye was from Orias, the heart was from Diva, the penis was from Rex, and the myelin sheath was from Pox. The necessary bones, flesh, and brain parts were taken from them.
The five of them died, and a 14 years old boy was assembled.

"You are you." "You don't have a soul." "You're just an assembly of parts." "A moving doll. " "You are not what we wanted."
A young Kiriko replied to Rex's words by saying that he understood, because he was Rex.
Rex responded by begging him not to understand them. They wanted him to become his own self.
Because there were limited connections between Kiriko and the fives, he could access their knowledge, and he became Ulla's teacher. He could also communicate with them telepathically.
He once wished that everyone should just die, so that Ulla's eyes would become meaningless.
The people of Ortus created a lie told in form of legend, just like the villagers did to Ai.

God created the World on Monday.
God borne deadly wounds on Tuesday.
The Satan celebrated the victory and cursed the World on Wednesday.
The curse violated the World on Thursday.
The God and Satan struck each others on Friday.
And on Saturday, the dying God gave the power to correct the world to a Human.

but the real sentences were:
"...on Saturday night, the Princess will visit everyone equally, and by Sunday morning, there will be no more Livings. The Princess is a Princess no more. She will became part of us (forever).

The book ended with a young boy with guns looking toward the direction of Ortus. He praised the world after uttering Ai's full name. He, like Ai, has the dream of saving the world.

Hideous phone camera shots for vol 2. [link]. In the 7th picture, Ai was looking at the gate of Ortus, with Koroshiohake statue at the top of it. The statue is depicting Koroshiohake at the tip of a ship spreading her arms and singing to the world.

- Instead of kicking ass, Ai is kicking legs

- There were funny parts here and there in the book, but one of my favorite was when Julie and Ai were heading back to the wagon after Julie told her about the Dead hating the Gravekeepers. After two steps, "Gusaa" pg52
Another one is when Ai was about to tell Ulla about when they (Ai, Scar, Julie) found Kiriko inside the wagon and Kiriko mistaken Ai for the Princess. His hands were shackled and there were traces of he was drugged.
Kiriko stopped her by stretching her cheeks, and Ai stretched his. Kiriko didn't want Ulla to get worry. Ai told a lie that Kiriko was sleep-talking and dancing under the moonlight wearing grass skirt. Kiriko thought Ai was a "shitty brat" (pg189).
The shitty brat then added that his dance was new, and Ulla asked if Kiriko would perform for her.
Ai smiled like a devil to Kiriko.
So Hula does exists there?
Also, the monopoly-like game that has the Tag-line "Reproduce your life severely! Would you not live another life
through this game?And Die!"

-IMO, Ulla's tale is a different take on the Three Wise Monkeys.
See no Evil - Kiriko doesn't want Ulla to get hurt by knowing what her eyes can do.
Hear no Evil - She was told lies regarding the world she's living in.
Speak no Evil - If the Death itself is evil, so is her voice.
But eh? I could listen to Mikako-shi's voice and play the Never-ending Melody all day long.

Add Shizaru, and we will have Do no Evil. Ulla could not touch the Livings, as she would kill them.

- There is always a first time for everything.

- Moral of the story: Be careful of what you wish for.

I also think that the ED theme is a song for both Ai and Ulla

Ahh, the pains of knowing that I will probably won't be able to hear her in the anime. They are killing me.
Oh well, probably like MoPi (another Starchild anime), I might be able to see her hand writings, again (as if it isn't enough already ).

I might visit and revisit other volumes if I have time, and I'm still going to purchase the remaining volumes. I hope the stories won't drag that much. I came for Mikako-shi (such impure reason), but I still like Ai. Ai is Love prpr.

I would like to suggest fellow Japanese LN readers to do summary of the LN using the first few posts of this thread, to make it easier for others to gain some insights.

At the start of Chapter 3, Kiriko brought Diva/Pox to check on Scar. Ai before that asked there were healthiness and unhealthiness even in Death. Diva replied by saying that while illnesses and injuries can be observed from the body of the Livings, the malady for the Dead affected them (the Dead) psychologically. It was a disease called "They're becoming selfish". Scar was a Living patient that Diva had after a long while.

Ai Kawaii.

Diva performed a check-up on Scar. She noticed something, and spilled out Scar's identity as a Gravekeeper. Ai, who lied about her age of being 15, was also exposed to be 12. The Gravekeeper was ready to battle Pox, but Diva broke the tension by thanking Ai for becoming Kiriko's friend. Kiriko didn't tell their parents about the true identities of the trio, and for Diva it was a good sign.

Diva explained that Scar's sickness was "False Pregnancy". The Livings, the Deads, and in rare cases, even males experienced that mental illness. The Doctor asked if Scar ever wanted a child, but Scar denied it. Scar had been hearing voice asking for her helps when she entered Ortus. It was Celica's voice.

Diva said she would asked Kela (she was in Ep 4 preview) to prepare the proper meals for Scar, and no prescriptions as it would be scary. Ai asked if it was okay for them (Ai, Scar, Yuri), after they lied their way to enter Ortus. Diva replied that if no one talked, then no one would knew.
Diva revealed that she actually would like to dissect "A 12 years old girl", and "A Gravekeeper with a False Pregnancy issue", and studied them to solve "The World Problem". But even if she was dying (笑) to do those things, she wouldn't carried them out as she knew what awaited her for the rest of her life: such dream of saving the world would consume her ;she would become selfish and she would threw away people around her.

Diva then asked if Ai would like to befriend Ulla.

Speaking about Kela, Ai met her at the cafeteria of the dormitory where they were staying. Yuri before that had went out to buy things and to check on the wagon repairs.
He had left 4 pieces of papers, saying:
"The Deads are too many and dangerous so don't go out!"
"It would be troublesome if you cause something so don't go out!"
"This season is bad for your throat."
"Be careful of the cars."
Ai made paper planes out of them and threw them outside the window. After having a meal and tea with Kela, the Cook asked if Yuri had said anything about Ai going out. The loli then answered that her guardian "didn't say anything"
Kela then gave the Fox mask and the coat to Ai, as Ai was heading to the Mask Avenue.
Oh, at the end of the book, Ulla thanked Scar for becoming the mother to her sister.

Some scenes when Ai was inside Ortus: She saw a mother with her baby in her arms(dead). She saw a forever 9 years old girl that called Ai as "Onee-chan", when Ai thought that she was supposed to be the youngest in the world.
The Dead needed to mummify their bodies, and they hated rainy seasons. They would go to sauna with zero humidity.

I guess I forgot to add that the lessons that could be learned are:
1. Don't be selfish.
2. Don' lie. It can costs you the Enterprise.

Sweet Love Ai in Love Ai's World.

Ulla does have lines that are spoken in vol 2 and 3, but seeing how Mikako-shi always get roles with few lines these days, I fear it could be the same case in the anime. I would laugh myself out loud if her single sells more copies than BD vol 01.

Book 4 is about ザタワー .
...meaning The Tower. Book 4 took place at different location, after the School Break in vol 3. One of my favorite scene in Book 4 is when ZA TAWAA was destroyed by Dee, and something came out flying from the tower.
"It's a bird?" "It's a plane?"

Well, the anime seems to be using French, but inside ZA TAWAA, the scribbles by the younger sister are in Japanese ざまみろ!!
I felt slightly pissed that the anime didn't use Japanese.

Oh, Book 3 is where Ulla regarded Scar as her mother too, where the Princess assisted them to escape from Ortus.

A School. or more like Detention Center for the 異形 Igyou. Should I translate it as The Fantastics or The Grotesques ?. Ai was tricked into entering the school where she met Alice, Dee and the others. And no, it is outside of Ortus.

Tanya Swedgewood.
The Class Rep. She was born blind, but wished so that she could see.
Her ability is 零里眼 (Reirigan= Zero Distance Eyes). She could tell the sound of the surroundings, as she described Ai as a "Rainbow created by Moonlight", while Dee was described as "One with the sound of a Dead Human.
...reminds me of one of House episode when a pilot could hear with her eyes.

Volrath Fahren
She was with a caravan full of Dead when she was caught by the Dead Hunters. As a punishment, she was thrown into the Gora Academy. But she was thankful to that, as she was able to meet her beloved Hardie.
Her dream was to become a Doctor for the Dead. When Ai heard that, she was reminded of Diva.
Her ability is "Super Grip". She discovered her ability long ago when she was trapped inside a tunnel accident. But because her arms were weak, the ability didn't help her to escape.

Mimieta Gedenburg & Memepo Gedenburg
Ability (?) 1.5 Personality. Their third sister, Momo, died and was buried by a Gravekeeper. They wished so that the three of them would be together forever, so they had Momo inside of them.

Run Sagittarius
Her ability is "Underwater Breathing" and was called a Mermaid. She could breathe in clear water and salty water, but would prefer to avoid cold water.

Gigi Totogi
A 22 years old but looked like a 12. He was discovered after 10 years of winter sleep inside the Mountains.

Hardie
Mud Eater, and Volrath's boyfriend.

When Alice burst out from the ground underneath the girl bathroom, he was planning to escape the Academy with Gigi and Hardie. Dee intentionally guided them to the girl's bathroom.
Ai said to Tanya that Dee was her roommate, but Tanya replied that Ai didn't have a roommate. Tanya could penetrate materials, floating on air, and manipulate people cognizance, and no one in the Academy had that kind of ability.

When Tanya called her "Witch", Dee was displeased, and said that she preferred if Tanya had added "of the West". Dee also fancy the name "Whisper" (Ghost).
The Whisper would meet people and "advice" them, from a child that forgot his belongings whereabouts to guiding a small country to their victory over the enemy's formation.
Her acts would resemble the original Great Witch, Vulard El Saikavitte - Kills the Dead, Trifles with the Livings, Plays with the Gravekeepers, and Grants the People's Wishes.

In volume 3, she regarded Ai as her enemy because Ai wanted to save the world, while Dee was planning to destroy it. Dee had her own reasons, and all that changed later in the novels.

Alice Color
His special ability, Buzzer Beater.
He asked for Ai's help to rescue his (and Dee's) classmates from the sealed world.
A world where everything would be reset. Alice killed his classmates and burned the city, but everything were reset, and they had no memory of what happened.
Dee once killed Alice to reset him, but then traveled together to find ways to save their class from the sealed country, Ostea.
He met with Kizuna Astin more than once, where Ai's father killed Alice to observe the "Resetting".

Alice and Dee's story started 12 years ago, when the Gravekeepers had just started to descend to this world, when Kizuna Astin took the name Hamburger, when Yuri was still in happiness, when the small Ulla had just killed about 10000 Livings, when Tanya and the others were still infants, when Alice was still Alice, and before Dee got the name "The Witch of The West".

One of my favorite scene between Ai and Alice is when Alice asked Ai what would she do if she met with someone that she loves. Would she abandons her dream of saving the World for that guy.
Alice: I love you, let's get married.
Ai: I hope you get die Please Die.

Mr. Lion said that he knew Ai was a Living when she said that she was tired. Dead don't get tired.
He gave candy sticks to Ai, but then asked what Ai would do if she wanted to go to a toilet, because toilets are but a few in Ortus. Dead people don't eat so they don't shit.

The facilities inside Ortus were built for the Dead. The hospitals only had psychiatric departments. And as explained in the anime, the biggest obstacle for the Livings to stay inside Ortus was the sentiments from the Dead because they were driven out by the Livings.

The dormitory where Ai was living was once a school where the Livings also learned there. Mr. Lion who was abandoned by his parents refused to believe that his folks had a good reason to throw him away. He liked masks and enjoyed playing with the Dead and had always slipped out from the dormitory. He could not stand the smell of the Livings whenever he returned to the school.

The teachers tried to advice Mr. Lion not to kill himself, but failed. Mr. Lion and Beli Bela died together when Ulla was yawning. They later were taken for post-death processing.

Beli Bela was the lead actress for the Silver Theater and played the role of the Princess during the Night of 100 Demons festival. Her dream was to be part of Gold Theater, but she failed.

When Kiriko walked Ai back to hostel, Ai revealed that her version of saving the world was to return it to the state before 15 years ago where people die when they die and new life are born. Kiriko asked if Ortus and the Dead have any places in that kind of world. Ai said no. He asked if the world had asked to be saved. Ai couldn't answer (but later returned those words to Kiriko).
At the hostel, Yuri and Kela were waiting furiously, that Ai thought that she was going to die.

On their third day inside Ortus, it was raining. The Mask Avenue was empty and Mr. Lion's shop was closed. It was then Diva came to check on Scar.

Later, when Mr. Lion told the truth about Ulla to Ai, Yuri was angry at Kiriko for letting Ai to meet with Ulla. Yuri tried to stop Ai from going to Ulla. The book described that due to the differences in weight, Yuri overpowered Ai even though Ai had the strength of a GK. But then Ai kicked him at the knee (one of leg-kicking scenes in Book 2), and jumped from 3rd floor.

Ai ran and ran, and she got the feelings that she would see something if she runs to the direction where the Sun rises. She saw Ulla and tried to call her name, Mr. Lion caught him and Yuri drove away. Mr. Lion then helped Ai to escape once again when Yuri dropped him off. Later Ai met with the forever-9 years old girl in an overall.

ps. Ai and the others came across with the 105 Livings before reaching Ortus when they passed through a tornado-struck town.

I just wanna know if this is true... I've seen some rumors around the net saying that there'll be some kind of time skip and Ai will be a teen by then, is this true?
Also, Does Alice like Ai or Dee?
