Haruhism has seized the nation with the release of the highly successful animated series DVD that was one of the top ten bestselling anime properties in 2007. Yen Press and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish the novel and manga series back-to-back, with hardcovers of the novels with the original Japanese cover art for libraries and hard core fans of the property.

When Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself to Kyon by asking if he's an alien, time traveler, or psychic, he knows his chances for a normal high school experience are ruined. Bold Haruhi takes a shine to him, and uses the force of her irrepressible personality to draft him into her club to find paranormal beings. Kyon soon discovers what she's looking for: Haruhi herself has the power to destroy and create entire universes at her whim. But if she knew about her ability, it could spell disaster for everyone.
I don't know Haruhism has seized the nation considering that only a few people actually know about it and I actually know of a few Haruhists in this forum alone. I just hope that there won't be any fantards or I would not be able to distinguish them if they will. Fortunately, there forums like this one that can aid new fans nto understanding the series better.

Trust me, they can still make Haruhi pretty popular in the states. Not so much as popular as Naruto (heh), but probably a little more popular in the states and have more sales on recent/upcoming items.

With the new Hardcover/paperback Light Novels being released in April and the REALLY well done manga being done by Yen Press, even if Haruhi won't be known by all in the states, I for one, who is a fan of Haruhi loves the recent releases over here.

It's called marketing. Which would make you want to purchase something you've never heard of more? Hearing that a lot of people enjoy it, or hearing that only a few people do?

Successful enough to merit a rerelease. Though I'm not sure if anything beyond volume one was released there...

Try FYE and Best Buy, I'm sure those two'll have it since they're one of the few stores now that actually have a good anime section.

Marketing's most oft-used ploy: peer pressure. "A buttload of people saw this. You don't want to miss out, do you?"

Why was it pushed to July? And please don't tell me it has to do with the events of BLR.

Are you sure that's not just the UK release or something?

Their US site still lists it for April:

Gah, I hope this doesn't turn into another Zero no Tsukaima.

At least they released a few volumes of Shana and FMP before canning them.

I'm sorry for the UK link, but I did'nt find a US page with both covers at the time.

Btw., the US page has some highres pictures of the covers: HC, SC, manga v. 2.

In other news: Kadokawa is releasing volume 8 of the manga on March 26:
