extremely good... in anime we usually get the main character oblivious to the love interest or s/he's too shy to make any move.

In this ep Kippei seems to finally be interested in her after sitting next to her for a day. His sudden realization and immediate asking her out on a date was totally in character for a guy like that. WOW! Her blushing was a rare show of emotion for her too... and still in character for how mild it was. I'm so used to an anime blush being bright red and rising from the shoulders to hair like an old thermometer that I had to go back and see it again. I wasn't sure it really happend.

Kippei, Kokoro, and their friends are some of the most realistic characters I've seen in anime so far. This show really excels in that department.

Interestingly enough, I agree with you. She definately isn't doing well coping. But then again, we still don't know the whole story, so there may be a lot of other extenuating factors that may explain why she did this. Personally, I think it's emotional overload. I've seen it in real life where so many things hit you that you can't keep up. Her leaving Yuzuyu with her sister's family was probubly best. She most likely needed to get away, collect herself, get her life back in order, THEN come and pick up Yuzuyu. If she didn't, things might get ugly for Yuzuyu and that's even worse than what she's already done.

All I can say is the Manga > Anime...but the Anime is still sooooooo good Hopefully the anime keeps on following the Manga...although it has sotra strayed off course in some episodes.

But one thing that's not terribly realistic is the guy suddenly deciding he needs a girlfriend, after being abandoned by his 5-year-old cousin for a few hours. If he really was that bored, I bet his cell phone is loaded with the numbers of playful young girls who would be able to fill a few hours of his time.

I think he is making up excuses. He's been interested in Kokoro since episode 1, really. Back then he had this notion that she was interested in him, but boys don't think like that unless they're interested themselves. (And then they think it whether it is true or not... ^_^*)

I think that you need to distinguish between "girlfriend" and "girl playmate". He has been playing around with a lot of girls, but he hasn't had an actual girlfriend that he spends time with outside of messing around.

You should consider that he doesn't get much affection or closeness from his own family since they are either quite distant or bitchy. This probably accounts for why he messes around with girls without ever getting emotionally involved. Now, I think that after getting used to the affection and closeness of being with Yuzu he finds that he wants a similar feeling from a girl his own age. Hence his sudden realization that he wants a girlfriend. Merely messing around with girls just isn't fulfilling his emotional needs anymore. He is growing up.

Whoa! Someone's analyzed the show.... I have to agree though. Kippei doesn't seem like the type that spends much (or any) time on introspection, so he just says things as and when he feels the need to. So his sudden statement to Kokoro is pretty natural for him. Can't wait to see how things develop between the two.

Not only do they kiss but I liked how Kippei smoothly avoided Kokoro's remark "If you want to touch me, you cant look at anyone else". sic. "I know you like me, dont you.

Yes, 9 was one of the most wonderful anime episodes I have ever seen. The colors, the music, the characters, all of it was so beautiful and fit so well together. I have to say, though, the boy is more lucky than he deserves. He could quite possibly have died alone too, if Kokoro hadn't seen him taking care of a small girl. (Or at least try...)

Did you all notice that the girl in the family picture looked a lot like Yuzu?

Besides the wonderful scene with Kippei and Kokoro, I also liked the part at the very beginning when Kippei makes some fried ebi (which his sister hated) but Yuzu says that she's happy and that "it's better than nothing". Ah, the innocence...

From his behavior in the last few episodes, he seems to have lost interest in fooling around with other girls anyway; I think (or I'd like to think, anyway) that he didn't say anything because really, there was no need to... His attention seems focused entirely on Kokoro at this point (except, of course, when it's focused on Yuzu-chan).

If he has lost interest he hasn't really said so, and it would be an unconcious change. Kokoro is right to suspect that this might be how he usually cons the girls into bed (though I admit they all seemed quite willing to go so far.)

Right now their personalities are very different, I don't see why he's attracted to her unless he's gotten used to saving girls who are in trouble. While that's romantic in an anime, in real life it's one of the mistakes men make which mess up their lives.

It's only fiction, boys, don't try that in real relationships or you'll be deeeeeeeead meat.

Episode 10.../ well I wasen't expecting this kiss already :P The bad thing is that suddenly Kippei was changed into a Don Juan telling kokoro he knew about the fact she felt something for him and all it sound a little cheezy and macho for me but hey.. I won't over react over this cause it is still my favourite serie of the season and that is the good thing ^^

I'm a hopeless romantic; I really want to think that Kippei has been forced to grow some being exposed to Yuzu's situation and being responsible for her daily care. That whole situation in and of itself is already way out there, so it can't be that much of a stretch...

In retrospect, I am rather distraught that Kokoro didn't press the issue. I can just see my wife going: "Huh?" when Kippei doesn't answer her and Kokoro goes along with it. If I could get her to watch anime, that is...

As it is, she has never really taken much of an interest in any of this stuff. Miyazaki's works; that's about it.

Had a bad experience with someone trying to save you...? Boys and girls are both guilty of this, you know...

You know, I just re-watched Episode 9 and I noticed something. When Yuzuzu says "Demo, hitori bochi wa sabishi yo." (= But, being by yourself is lonely.), Kokoro has already walked into her new apartment building and shouldn't be able to hear her. Yet, that same quote is echoed through her mind twice later in the episode. Once when she's unpacking upstairs, and again when her and Kippei are in the classroom and she's on her knees in tears. I found that a little strange.


But what I found the most strange was WHAT the heck was with her eyes during that kiss? She looked like "Derrrr, I'm bored". And having your eyes open when you kiss someone that long and that deeply is just WEIRD! What is up with that? Very unattractive in my opinion.
