read ROBOTECH Sentinels and ROBOTECH End of The Circle novels to find out.
short summary of the ending, the SDF and Rick and co. got teleported into a blackhole, which is also where the Invid fleed into. The Invid tries to make the space inside the blackhole their new home. And later they find out that the whole thing, from the seeding of the Flower of Life and the creation of the multiple lifeforms including Invid and some alien races in the Sentinels are all part of an experiment conducted by a God-like being called Haydon. Now the experiment comes to fruition and Haydon awakens to use protoculture power to create a new universe inside the blackhole. Both Invid and SDF forces got out of the blackhole leaving Minmay and a Zor clone inside as the Adam and Eve of the new world. Everyone else get out and return home. |

Woah, let me field this one, fellas.
Ok, Robotech. Here's the deal. Basically, Robotech II the Sentinels was never finished, but a new series is in the works by Harmony Gold working with Tatsunoko studios. The Sentinels books and all that, in fact the entire premise of the Sentinels has been scrapped, and they're aiming for an angle away from the Macross characters...because it looks like they don't own those characters or the rights to create derivatives to the Macross franchise. That's where it gets complicated. You see, Robotech is made of three independant, unrelated anime series. SDF Macross Southern Cross and MOSPEADA Go to http://protoculture.lebhead.com/ to read up more on that. In Japan, however, Macross is big. Not so much now as it used to be, but it used to be second to Gundam in mecha popularity. SDF Macross spawned a movie version of the series titled 'Do You Remember Love?'. Another sequel, made up mostly of music videos using movie and tv series animation, combined with about 10 minutes of new and original animation concluded the stories of Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay (Rick, Lisa, and Min Mei in Robotech). However, Macross is still going. Macross II was made in the early 90's, but isn't considered official because the original creators had no input into it's production. The real Macross story continues with Macross Plus, Macross 7, a short movie called 'The Galaxy is Calling Me', Dynamite 7, and the new Macross Zero prequel. |

The complete Robotech Saga is like Macross Saga (adapted from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross anime) Southern Cross (adapted from Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross anime) New Generation (adapted from Genesis Climber Mospaeda anime) Sentinels (original novels by Jack McKinney) End of the Circle (original novel by Jack McKinney) Lost Generation (original novels by Jack McKinney) That pretty takes care of all the stuff in the Robotech universe. Now the Macross universe is totally different, actually the original Macross TV storyline is no longer considered part of the official timeline, replaced by Do You Remember Love, so many things now in the official timeline is different from the original TV series. |

BTW, I personally don't like the Japanese throwing away the Macross TV and label Do You Remember Love as canon. A lot of the more interesting stuff got thrown away, like the alien Supervisor army setting (original builder of SDF Macross in the TV series, which is only mentioned twice in the Macross TV, once at the start, once when they take over the automatic weapon plant).
They get a lot more role in the Super Robot Wars games though... EDIT: oh, about the Japanese Macross timeline, it's pretty much a mess now. In one version Hikaru (rick) and Misa (lisa) never got married, they departed in Megarod 01 colony fleet with Minmay, and the whole fleet disappeared near the center of the galaxy. in another version Hikaru and Misa got married but later found murdered in their home, the murderer never found. I think the former version is more likely canon. Anyway I think the Japanese Macross setting is way less consistent than the Robotech setting. they just seem to add new things when they suddenly have some new idea, and forget about old things when they... well, forget about them... I like the Robotech setting in the novels much more. Last edited by dreamless; 2004-06-15 at 00:49. |

Actually, you're a bit off there. The TV series story is considered canon, while the DYRL? designs are considered the official 'look' of Space War One'. That's basically how it is at any rate. The truth is closer to being that the "official" version of 'Space War One' is somewhere between the tv series and the movie. But for all intents and purposes, it's basically the tv story and the movie designs. The Supervision Army gets a bit more detail in Macross 7. While not stated explicitely in the series, the Supervision Army was under the control of the Protodevlin, who are behind the Varuta Army in that series. Also, I'd point out again that the Sentinels animation, the books, and the comics have all been removed from the "canon" Robotech storyline, which now only consists of: Robotech tv series Battlecry (videogame) the new Robotech comics Macross's official continuity is Macross Zero SDF Macross/DYRL? (tv story/movie designs) Flashback 2012 M3 (videogame) Macross Plus VF-X (videogame) Macross 7 The Galaxy is Calling Me Dynamite 7 VF-X2 (videogame) Also, some will tell you that the movie is considered "A movie that was made in the Macross universe in 2032', this is not entirely correct. There was a movie by the same name in the Macross universe, but it is not entirely like the actual movie we have in real life. At least some of the scenes are different. |
