Closest comparison in terms of content might be Cooking Master Boy. Except that YJ is about 2000x better, and funnier, and the animation is better and the colours are brighter and the girls are cuter... You get get the picture.

Honestly people, they are not far behind, they've subbed 3 episodes, there are only 5 episodes out. Please realize that these people have lives and sometimes certain shows must be curtailed so that they can get stuff like school work etc done which is a significantly higher priority than fansubbing anime (well, I suppose maybe not if you don't happen to mind failling).

This might be a stretch, but this story also has some sort of Dragon Ball Z-scale feeling to it. The main character is one of the best (if not the best) bread makers out there and it's interesting watching what kind of challenges he might face later on.

I would agree, except that it's more of an original Dragon Ball feeling, rather than a Z one. I.E. more funny, less stupidity (and the stupidity is funny stupidity).

The mangaka has an omake where he makes fun of himself in a flashforward like 30 years where's he's writing the final pages of 'Yakitate!! Japan Xi' and then 'Yakitate!! Japan Z'. Pretty funny.

Anyway, the future of the series is actually fairly obvious, if you think on it rationally. It can go one of two ways, or a combination of those two ways. First, there's the business aspect of managing a bakery. Things like competition and advertising. And second, there's competition between individual bakers and groups of bakers. The scale of both aspects would obviously increase as the story goes along, so you can logically evaluate future aspects of the show in general terms basing it solely on the realities posed by the setting. Then there's stuff like relationships and backstories thrown in for x factors.

Just FYI, I started writing out why this has no relation whatsoever to Dragon Ball, but it got so long that I figured it was best to simply state what the two have in common instead. Both started as shounen manga. Both have a stupid main character. Both main characters have a grandpa that they somewhat look up to (normally I wouldn't give this one, but any argument for a connection needs everything it can get). They "fight". Aliens come and tell both main characters that they are from a super powerful alien race and that they failed in their mission to take over earth, now they must "battle" for the fate of all mankind. Both main characters turn into giant monkeys when they see the moon. Ok... those last two are lies.

Both characters follow the typical shounen manga pattern where defeated enemies turn into good guys: Suwabara, Kanmuri, panda-dude, etc. But really, most similarities between Yakitate and DB are probably largely coincidence. Why does every shounen manga always end up being compared to Dragonball? I mean, I like DB just as much as the next person, but can't we just evaluate each series on its own merits?

Urk, how can you compare Yakitate!Japan to Dragonball? Really if you read the manga you'll realize that it's not the competitions themselves that matter (forget about the silly glowing hands thing in the anime it's really not that significant) but rather that the "challenges" merely serve to allow the mangaka to let out all the bad, stupid, totally hilarious puns he must've bottled up over the years . And of course to let Kuroyan have his forbidden reaction

I think Fansubbers are being confused with for-profit TV stations that air weekly programs.

No KoroshiyaX. It's the drugs they are on. Good anime fansubbed is like Cocaine. It's addictive. And when it slows down everyone is stumbling around in withdrawal going...Anime, Anime... Now of course we need to keep these people away from the fan sub groups as it just turns those people off . But that's why...Anime is a drug and the fan subbers supply it.

Actually, cocaine creates an actual physical dependancy. Your body tells you that it needs cocaine in order to function properly, and then you go into actual withdrawal from not having it. On the other hand, any addiction to anime one may feel is purely mental. Thus, anyone who can't wait for whatever reason has a mental illness and needs to see a doctor at their earliest possible convenience, or to simply die and stop waisting all of the normal people's air.

actually it has a bright side, quite often groups catch up by releasing 2-3 eps at once! That means you have a sweet hour of YJ without having to wait a week between them.

In the meantime there are tons on animes to see. really I never see the problem with waiting[lie, but it makes me look cool]

Episode 4 released (thanks, A-E, you do a great job!) - and finally, voices I like! The manager's and the mushroom-head guy's were just perfect.

And I must say, I'm getting used to Azuma and Kawachi's. Azuma in particular is growing on me and seems to be calming down a little, despite the freezer incident!

I really enjoy seeing the scenes involving people eating Azuma's bread. The over exaggeration is what I really look forward to and episode four's scene was very entertaining . Tuskino's seiyu is perfect imo, she sounds totally like an ojo. Now if only they would show a scene were she goes head-over-heels for Azuma's bread!

Lol So Harsh Snoopy. Heh Wanting is part of human nature. Wanting is the reason we watch TV every week. We WANT to know what the crazy writers thought up for our favorite characters every week. Wanting is the reason we drive cars instead of taking the bus or trains. I want to know the other Versions of Japan he made up. The Mount Fuji one was Inventive and Original. It makes me laugh as well as makes me think of innovative ways to apply that to my own field.

Wanting is what will get me up at 3am on 11/26 to buy a bunch of things for almost free (Well if you live in the States that is).

On the other hand I'm sure the Fansubbers say EXACTLY what you wrote to all those leechers who just DEMAND they bring out a product before it is ready.

The difference between demanding a weekly series be shown every week and demanding that subs be provided every week is vast. For one, you pay for cable, the television network is paid by advertisers, they're professionals, and this money changing hands makes you entitled to their services. On the other hand, the only thing you're entitled to on the internet is your right to be there since you paid for access. And if you paid for porn site membership, you're entitled to new porn every once in a while, too.

Now entitlement is a different story. Wanting something so bad that someone gets into withdrawal is just part of human nature. I WANT to see Yakitate 5 and 6. but I can wait for it.

DEMANDING that you finish a series. Especially using death threats and foul language. Well those people should see a doctor and be kept away from Computers and TV for a while.

Agreed on the last part. But there's also the inference that groups are somehow wronging people by not going faster. For example, the tone in that post above, whether intended or not, gives off the 'they should be going faster than this because I want them to' aura. Everyone wants things, but being patient and not bitching about wait time is the only acceptable course of action for the general public. Hell, even other people who work in the community don't bitch about things like that.

On a note related to this thread, I thought the umai/horse pun could have been explained better for episode 4... if you didn't stop it to read the little explaination, the entire thing would have flown right by the average viewer.

Pausing the video at such a long note to read is the idea in the first place. We can't leave a note on-screen for too long past the scene that mentions it.

Some groups prefer to put notes at the beginning of the anime, but then many viewers would forget about them while watching.

I also noticed that they offered an explanation for the umai 馬味 joke but didn't notice / didn't choose to annotate the baku 馬喰 one. Maybe because they followed so closely after each other in the show.
