One thing that bothers me during the first episode is that if the mechs can rain lazors of doom from everywhere, why don't they immediately do that instedad of using the rifles and shields?

because then it would be a suicide mission. That's obviously the last resort for desperate times.

^ the fast regeneration of the enemy is unexpected and the sheer number is madness. Look at one of the missile/capsule/rocket ship? its being swallowed by lots of them.

This is most of the problem for alien race. Humanity might developed powerful weapons but you can't beat sheer number with superior technology alone.

Well true their are allot of'em like that but the thing that personally cought my interest on how that jumbotron fly insetead of rockets, jets, or some huge propeller he used that space time continuum thing that you'd get from star trek.... watching that made my eyes glitter for the first time in a while now

I loved the way they formed the cone of shields and rifles, it maximises the amount they can fire, but if hit there is nothing behind them to reduce loss.

What does get me is why didn't they have more then one set of those hyperthingymagig ships? Have one charged ready to fire as the other one is charging... I guess it could be cost, but it cost more to loose the fleet imho!

In a sense, it would be, on an albeit smaller but no less imposing scale, what those who were lucky enough (or unlucky, as the case may be) to have survived the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings would have felt. I, personally, cannot imagine how it would feel to witness such advanced and overwhelming destructive capabilities. Makes me wonder if this story is influenced by this particular historical past.

Hmmm... If an episode is already available in English subs, then are these not spoilers, according to animesuki's spoiler policies? They may be "spoilers" in the general sense of the term, but not actual spoilers for the forum. Or am I wrong? Time to re-read the spoiler policy.

I liked the cone too, it was pretty choreographic, but maybe having a group of units ready to do that beam spam that would make Kira Jesus Yamato envious would probably helped more to open the way for the nuclear bombs+10. And, I'm just speculating, i think that the soldiers are clones or something like that (unless living in the space for too long makes everyone become white or grey haired), so it wouldn't be too bad to lose some to make them go all out.

As for the new weapons i guess that they just finished making those and ended the budget, or it would have taken too much to build some more.

space war.... time travelling...

this will have a difficult plot but hopefully it won't give much mindbreak like what Urobuchi always did

promising and decent in first episode...

No time traveling. The Galactic Human Alliance thought Earth was uninhabitable due to an ice age and don't know where it would be.

Surprise surprise the ice age ended and humanity took to the seas.

By this time both human groups consider the other as myths and legend.

Interesting tech in this anime. Did anyone else notice that in episode one Red's right hand didn't have his gun for a moment then when the squirrel thing jumped on his face it was magically back. Some sort of expandable dimensional pocket on his hip? Somehow he kept two teeth and a pistol in that form fitting suit.

Also the Floater mechanic for making Chamber fly, it makes me think of the Star Carrier series of novels where they used micro-singularities to propel spacecraft. Think how much energy that takes to create a small black hole to pull you across the sky.

Then contrast that with the earth natives. They have AKs, MP5s and M16s! Must have had a well preserved 21st century armory underwater. I wonder if that's an attempt to make them relatable to us.

The UroButcher has his hands in this so I'm prepared to experience some heartache. Let's hope the rest is still awesome as Rider charging Gilgamesh.
