Nice to see Ougi again in the final part for this arc.

The countdown was also wonderfully adapted with the plays. Seems like Araragi is finally forgiven. All is well~
Loved it. I hope the next arc will be also memorable.

YES finally a GREAT FUCK YOU to Hanekawa!!!!

Now on to my rant/review or w.e u wanna call it. In terms of the story and animation this has been the best episode in this series. Seems like the animation and movement had been elevated to another degree. There was a lot of odd movement like classic gatari days. I was beginning to get nervous that the story was going to be carrying the anime but this episode was great. Not to say the others weren't but this one takes the cake. The art looks a bit more colorful and crisp. And the Hanekawa scene was done very well. As well as the hint scenes. This type of audio direction is something i love from shaft studio and why it works soooo fucking well with this scene. Im guessing based on just a hypothesis that during the first couple episodes the staff was probably working on a project so the effort towards gatari was split up but now they are back to working fully on gatari. I could be completely wrong but the effort in terms of animation and art in this episode wants to prove me otherwise. No need for theories on to the episode.

Im glad this is an Ougi episode, it begins more of the creepiness and trippiness. All her advancements are done so calculated and she isnt afraid to call out Sodachi on being crazy. The use of a thunder round type of hinting system really did get my heart pumping full of excitement like what could it have been? Its rare seeing suspense being built one by one, succession after succession, and still work in such a way it did in this story. The conclusion of those hints tho were somewhat a given but its Nisio after all and he loves to build up something absolutely crazy in order to leave it anticlimactic but yet chilling. Basically its the answer you know but the answer you don't want. However there was a bit of a spin to it which made it all the more creepy. Araragis scream was sooo damn good it stopped the entire hints in its track and I felt so much emotion from it. The bits of philosophy from Ararararagi is surely great. Sodachi is soo beautiful man it sucks to see her having to deal with all this but im glad she can somewhat move past it. Overall she was fleshed out as a character so well. When is the last time You've seen a new character get developed so well from start to finish. Having her leave is good for now so dont worry (i wont spoil anything so lets leave it at that). Hitagi is such a character lol those text were soo cute it almost made you forget how much of a couple they really are.

FYI the scene with Arararagi and Ougi towards the end is important just because you dont understand it dont dismiss it. And those who get it will enjoy it.

Now to discuss the overall impact of these 6 episodes, while they are 3 different arcs they seem to have connected every step of the way. Some might say having her leave would just omit this arc as a filler. However lets be honest here the presences of Sodachi brought something important to this series. A BACKSTORY and DEVELOPMENT for the one character who barely had any, or as much as the other girls. Arararagi finally gotten a backstory which lets us inside the world and mind of Arararagi. Essentially we get what Arararagi was before all this. Besides Kizu this is the most we have gotten thus far. I could repeat what ive say and summarize everything but u can see my older episode rants for that.

In all sense of purposes Ougi Formula Sodachi Riddle Sodachi Lost was done expetionally well with this episode being the best/peak thus far. For these episode i will give a 10/10. If the next arc can finish it off without any plunders this might top Monogatari Second Season.

ON TO MY WAIFU SHINOBU NEXT WEEK!!!!

Marvellous and perfect.

The end of Sodachi arc was amazing, is really sad to know she was alone carrying the pain all those years, specially after what happened to her mother. Hanekawa this time lost, Ougi sometimes is too much even for her meanwhile Araragi was stupid until the end when he realize the truth about Sodachi.

Now a new stage on Hanekawa's life is starting, the non-stop hunt for Oshino Meme. That last part of Gahara and those messages LOL.

For me Owarimonogatari is the AOTS and probably the AOTY.

Man, what an episode. I was hoping for the pay off of Araragi talking with Oikura 1v1 to be huge and incredible, but it wasn't what I was expecting. There wasn't much of it at, actually. They just chit-chatted for a minute and Oikura looked calm and okay with the situation. I really want to know what she wrote in the envelope, though. Goddammit.

But everything leading up to the end was soooooooo good. I dunno why Hanekawa got all wet, but the gesture of doing so to challenge Ougi was awesome. Was it a way for her to figure out the truth in those 10 seconds? Did she have to clear her mind and pump out those synapses in her brain by dousing some water on her head to figure out the truth? Or was she trying to show off how good she looks in wet clothes to Araragi? Hm....

I absolutely loved the scene where both Hanekawa and Ougi were giving him hints. The static image with all the numbers and each lighting up one at a time with the music getting more intense as the hints go on and on is the kind of shit I love about this series.

And Hitagi's texts. :3

In the Monogatari world, metaphors have power. Hanekawa has the intellects of a supervillain, but by dying her hair she "disguised herself as an ordinary person".

And this, has the very real effects of suppressing her own supernatural intellect.

By washing the hair and restoring "her true self", Hanekawa was able to employ her full powers.

Note that her striped hair is entirely supernatural; no matter how she dye it the day before, every morning it would become stripped once again. Once one touched the supernatural in Monogatari, one could never become normal ever again. But there are perks that came with that.

I wasn't too into Haneoka Kei's soundtrack for Tsuki but I thought Hana was good. So far Owari's soundtracks been good too especially the usual reflective pieces at the end. I think they certainly picked the right guy.

I wonder who's going to sing the op for shinobu mail.

It's not a matter of intellect. It is something touched upon in Neko White. Basically, Hanekawa normally sees no evil, and always look for the best in people. To be able to see the worst case, to see things so twisted, she needed to be whole.

No I mean it's obvious as hell even if you are only an anime viewer like me. We have been hammered with hints thorough the seasons just like Ararararararagi was this episode.

Araragi: Ougi, what are you doing in a place like this? Is your home nearby?
Ougi: I've been looking for a lost child.

Me: Could it be? Just maybe?

Although I have guessed as much that Oikura's mother was dead, I had not dwell much on the detail and definitely did not expect it to have happened this way. Having the hints/facts laid down one after another and sped up more and more was crushing, got really sad for Oikura.

In that view, I thought Hanekawa was very much on point when she questioned Ougi's thought process to arrive at this conclusion with just bare information. That just further illustrates the dark nature of Ougi, though I guess yeah... we don't know exactly what Ougi knows in the first place.

As for the last scene of Ougi and Araragi, beside the reference to "a lost child", I thought the setting and scenery itself was too familiar and sure enough with confirmation from the timeline chart...

Spoiler for previous aired Monogatari 2nd Season:

It's for this reason Hanekawa didn't really lose. She was avoiding looking into the worst type of scenario, while Ougi's mentality is always fatalistic. Hanekawa was genuinely trying to help Araragi, while Ougi only wanted to quickly solve the mystery as a detective, and became petty about giving the answers because of the loss earlier.

The only mark you COULD give against Hanekawa is her in essence coddling Araragi and Sodachi, which is where you could see her actually react sadly, because she realized it was true.

I found it amusing how Sodachi didn't react much when Araragi told her.

Perhaps deep down, she already knew, but she needed someone to say it to her outright for her to move on herself.

Hm, that could be it.

So, when do you guys think Hanekawa figured it out?

Is it me or the giving out of the clues shows a lot about how Tsubasa and Hanekawa handles a mystery case?

Feel a bit anti-climax, expecting Araragi to confront Sodachi while Sodachi still in denial.
But looks like Sodachi already knew the circumstances from before and just needed someone to point it out to her.

It felt the same way as in Mayoi Jiangshi. The horror of a jiangshi outbreak wan't explored that much. Koyomi doesn't seem to bat an eyebrow even as Hitagi and his other friends were nowhere to be found.

Probably. We don't actually know the extent of her "instability", so she might as well have helped dispose of her mother's remains or there's a part of her who knows but suppresses the immediate and long-term effects of her mother's death. All that was left to our imagination.

Or was it Nisio's intention?

You mean Ougi and Hanekawa? Or is there some wordplay here I don't get..

---

Sodachi Lost was unexpectedly great for me. Oikura's epiphany in the last episode resonated greatly with my own situation. Even before it got there, the physical uneasiness I felt as the episode built up to it grated at me so much I nearly had to stop watching. I broke down in tears by the time the scene finished and I couldn't watch it a second time straight away, as much as I wanted to. I was crying too much. There's no words to describe how it felt to have it described so simply, effortlessly and be heartbreaking still.

With her situation resolved this episode, it felt fitting to me it was non-climatic. After having her problem being pointed out, all that was left is to move on. No fuss, no grand speech needed. Just the belief that things will be better was enough.

Yep. To me it felt like Ougi is spoonfeeding Koyomi while Hanekawa instead makes questions out of the clues. One plays along with Koyomi's foolishness, the other actually gives him the ability to think.
