wow it's so pretty!! i really really really hope they keep up the animation quality because that is absolutely beautiful!!

i am dl'ing the raw now and can't wait!! you know with claymore, moribito and el cazador this season there is no reason why i should be the most excited about this! but i am! i guess i'm a sucker for costume epics + sword fighting + doomed lovers

I'm definitely watching this, especially the fact Sakimoto(Final Fantasy XII, FF Tactics, Vagrant Story) is doing the music. Really, freelance VGM composers need to write more anime scores.

For the first time, Sakimoto is utilizing live performances. I hope he would shine here, as he has great sense of musicianship.

I just saw the first episode and all I can say is WOW!!! I really don't pay attention to faithful sotrytelling from original source since usually 99% of the time it will not be the same as the original. Still, I never thought Gonzo would go this route. Everything with the show is awesome. This is defentily on the tip of my spring anime list.

I'm tickled pink by a myriad of things...

1. It's a Sahakespearean anime. Rarely do those words enter in the same sentence.

2. The Gonzo animation is very kickass.

3. Verona is a....flying city a la final fantasy

4. The theme song is Your Raise Me Up by Josh killmenow Groban, sung in Japanese.

It's just...I dunno, things that by all means should not work but yet does.

I've downloaded the raw but my computer is lagging horribly right now so I'll have to watch the who thing later. >.<

But from the little bit that I did skim I'd have to agree that the OP is excellent and from looking at screen caps I think

Oh, this is looking good.

Yes, they're playing fast and loose with the story, but why not? If they'd stuck strictly to the traditional script the question would've been "why'd they bother?"

The world, scenery, costumes and backdrops are all spectacular - definitely Final Fantasy-esque. And giving Juliet the spotlight was an excellent idea; she looks great as an action heroine.

Looking forward to the next episode... ah, young love.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode!

The OP and ED were kinda meh to me. But the background music which are quite similar to ballet score in classical music suit my taste very much. I very much hope they use the ballet music of Prokofiev and Overture by Tchaikovsky in the anime as well. It was the use of the overture in the trailer that I'm sold to this anime in the first place.

Btw, anyone knows how long this anime going to run?

Did I hear the names Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky? If they do use their music that'd be awesome! Ever since I watched Princess Tutu and heard the music from the ballet Romeo and Juliet I've fallen in love all over again with classical music. It would make me so happy to hear pieces like The Montagues and Capulets or the music from Act 3 scene 1's The Last Farewell.

And yes, I know I am being a total geek.

Yay, that was really cute =) I'm really liking the way they're portraying Romeo and Juliet's characters so far. I'm curious as to what the story is going to be, since it's so changed from the Shakespeare. I'm kind of sad at some of the changes they made, though... I really liked the background in the original of the pointless feud between two equal families, continuing from who-knows-what grudge and only bringing destruction. Oh well.

Hmm, having just watched the OP again, two scenes gave me this sudden idea about the ending.
Spoiler for speculation about an alternative ending???:

Romeo x Juliet

I'm guessing from it's name it's going to be a lot like the play, I'm just hoping it's not EXACTLY like the play. The play is too well known across the world to even bother to explain it.

Just watched the 1st episode, don't want to ruin it for you who haven't seen it yet so I'l restrain from spoiling. The anime is well developed/laid out. It's a good anime and the music fits atmosphere quite well, somewhat epic and European style (quite good and fitting). This is another anime I think would be good to look forward too. Animation was was quite good as well, combined with angle usage, it's an eye catched anime.

Here are some SS of episode one along with a summary, don't look if you don't want to know!

Now that would be the worst deviation from the original, not that it can't be done well. I actually prefer this over the original. Having seen a myriad of RxJ adaptations, I've always wondered about an aftermath in which one of the two lives.
