I thought it was 1 league = 1.6km, 3 league = 4.8 ~= 5km?

then did the translation got the order correct? like is it supposed to be
"half charge" or "half loaded"? and what is the correct words for #2 setting in the story?

no, I/we/this manga is not talking about the earth's "one league", we are talking the empire's one league measurement, and if you read the raw, little print underneath the panel specifically said 1 league = 1.6km.

Even if thats the case it's still wrong, 1.6km X 3=4.8km or 4800 meters a 81mm mortar has a max range of about 6000m.

so, did Itami say anything wrong when he say around 5km? last I check 5km is within 6km, so an 81mm can totally do this. may be he did not want to do an accurate math in the head for an answer? may be he did not want to get bog down in explaining the meaning of 3.75 leagues?

please stop arguing semantic, there is nothing wrong with this part of story,

Argh these debates stemming from lack of translation is annoying.

from novel 2
Quote:
「うーんこちらの三位で三リーグちょっと(1リーグ1.6km)といったところですかねえ?」
とざっくばらんに暗算した上で、少し控えめに答えた。武器の性能の全てを正直に答える必要はないからである 。

"Hmm, using your measurement, I'd say a little more than 3 leagues? (1 league = 1.6km)"
He answered with a rough modest estimate, a little less than its full range.
There's no need to inform them of the full capabilities of their weapons.
Yes, Itami said it wrong. Yes, it's on purpose, and yes, it's a rough estimate.
Now let's move on.

So in the Empire, their league is basically an earth mile.

Just to comment. In that manga panel Itami says in that world's units it is around 3 leagues. And there's a note below that panel: 1 league = 1.6 km. What that world calls as Leagues would be our worlds Miles, not our world's leagues. And thus the range of around 4.8 km or 3 miles isn't wrong if the maximum range is 6km.
Let's hope ppl understand that rough estimates, rounding numbers, etc has a lot of variations depending on the size of the number and personal preferences and I hope we don't go to a 10 page discussion like I witnessed with a single line from a TV series.

As most of military equipment and vehicles, what specs civilians can read on paper or wiki vs what they can really do.

Especially non-combatant leaders of nation you are at war with.

Rounding goes to the nearest whole number which in this case would be 4 leagues.

Reading through novel 4, I chuckled when came across chapters talking about how our world disagrees on the terminology of calling the gods of their world "gods".
Especially countries with strong monotheistic religious influences, namely Christians and Muslims, demand we not use the word "god" to address them, as they believe only true God is in his heaven in our world. So to speak.

Well. Gods like Hardy in that world are spiritual beings with no physical bodies, can hear thoughts of thousands of believers and worshipped by millions, and she even rule an afterlife world where all souls of mortal goes to spend eternity under her rule.
Yeah. That's a god.

Apparently the fact Hardy is a sentient being that mortals can actually contact and communicate with really bugs the religions of our side world in "Gate".
Because they have definite proof of existence.

Are you up to date reading the manga?
The manga is currently at Vol. 2 of the Novel.
Aohige was referring to events in Vol. 4.
The big gate close happens in vol. 5.

I guess opening up gates until they can peek into the worlds beforehand is not for mere mortals.

Yeah, it does humorously drive home how opening holes to another world is extremely dangerous.

Not all worlds are going to be less-threatening than our own like the one in Gate.

If Lelei opened gate to say... super-powered mutated zombie apocalypse of L4D
Or opened gate to Starship troopers world.
The world would be completely and utterly screwed.
