I think in this universe the human body can take much more than ours. No doubt people died during the training but you can;t die easily in this show (aside from Titan deaths). For example both Mikasa and Armin have fallen from 5+ stories and just got up like it was nothing. Not to mention Armin getting smacked by the female titan and rolling on the ground hard for 20+ meters without breaking any bones. In the Attack on titan world, frailty of the human body is not an issue with 3d gear.
