One Piece - Chapter 816 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread Guidelines
Whoa, here I was expecting to see maybe a spoiler pic, yet the whole chapter is out now! -Chapter title is "Dog vs. Cat". Ministory features the Water 7 gang. -Franky's group are too late in realizing the samurai slipped past them. As they scramble to search for the two, the monkey mink from before is already ringing an alarm bell, alerting the whole island. All of the minks, the two leaders included, are all in an uproar.... -Meanwhile, Kinemon and Kanjurou have already met up with Momonosuke, who seems to have been hiding out in his room. However, as the minks frantically search for the samurai, both Inuarashi and Nekumamushi finally encounter each other.... and it's not pretty. They both remember the injuries they sustained fighting Jack's forces, and, their tension reaching its peak, begin to fight each other! The Straw-Hats all manage to find the samurai and try to take them back to the Sunny, but Kinemon calls out for the two mink leaders to stop fighting..... -He introduces himself as a retainer of the Kougetsu clan, and announces that he came searching for Raizou. After hearing this, the minks..... all bow down and tell him that Raizou is safe! As it turns out, it was all a big misunderstanding! They have no animosity towards samurai.... on the contrary, they consider the Kougetsu clans as family! And despite the horrible injuries they sustained, they would never rat out their friends to the enemy, even if it meant risking the country's destruction....!!!! Oh, and.... NO CHAPTER NEXT WEEK! I enjoyed the first page though... about how the Laguna shipmakers are surprised after seeing Franky's bounty
well... the plot twist is huge though.. to think that the name of Raizou and Samurai actually could stop the fight between cat and dog I got trolled again by Oda-sensei |

Well. Way to kill the tension. Turns out Straw Hats' worries were for naught.
But now I really want to know what makes Raizou so important that the Dukes are willing to risk everything for his sake. Want to know what would make a good twist, in my opinion? If Raizou turned out to have a DF with the power to charm, control or otherwise make people loyal to him, and he used the Minks as a shield. |

I'm more interessted in where exactly the minks hid Raizou. Besides fightign, Jack's army did also search for him, didn't they? So in a normal place they should have found him.
But I'd like to see what DF power he has as well. After all, all the samurais we've met had one. |

I felt that the entire "plot" centered around everyone hiding Momo, etc. for the past few weeks was weak, and the fact that it led to this "twist" makes it weaker. Sure, it was a surprise, but it seems more like Oda wanted to show the relationship between Zou and the Kougetsu clan but didn't know how to go about it, and so he decided to rely on this roundabout method to "shock" us. It just doesn't seem like a very clever way to go about it. I've been liking Zou, but this particular subplot just irks me. At least it's finally out of the way now so we're not going to have these needless, "Oh no! Hide the samurai!" scenes shoved at us every few pages anymore.

I went into this chapter blind without spoilers.
Thoroughly impressed. Oda had me believing the worst: half baked chapter with samurai tension and dog/cat rivalries. But starting with that hilarious title page, everything led to one of the best reveals and plot twists in One Piece. I was wide eyed and gobsmacked when i read it: such a brilliant and complete betrayal of any expectations and predictions I had for this plotline. I was smiling as much as Luffy in the last panel by the end. Hats off once again, Oda!

Yeah, i was fearing for extended drama about something Samurais had no power over, but instead i got a heartwarming tale of loyalty and friendship.
Now we can skip lot of pointless drama and move on to either rescuing Sanji or working on the ninja subplot. Last edited by J4n1; 2016-02-11 at 03:30. |

Wow, an early chapter. Was not expecting that. The chapter itself was rather boring in my opinion, maybe the Anime can make it better, maybe I said. I was hoping we'd know if Luffy was going solo or not to save Shinji, great now we have to wait a while longer to find out >>
