Through divine luck I was able to attend both times lots for the Mankai Matsuri 2 event. While all the major announcements are already posted, here are the details of the event itself for anyone curious (Some parts may be paraphrased, my JP isn't 100% fluent:
We start off with a short monologe from Yuna, talking about the duties of becoming a hero, and how there were hardships, but as long as her friends were there she would be fine. It then leads into a live performance of the OP song, sung by all five seiyuu. After that introductions from the cast members, along with one extra - Hanazawa Kana, the voice of Sonoko. From there, they dive into he first segment, the games/antics that are typical to these types of events. In this case, there was the "Taisha Training", where randomly chosen cast members had to do something silly, like make a pun, play the opposite of their character type, etc. Second half of this segment were trivia questions symbolized from the Vertext - as a team, they had to take down all six within a time limit. Each person would pick one vertex and answer the question with no help from their team members. If the question proved too hard, that person could switch to another vertex. The first vertex had the easiest question, sixth the hardest. Yuna's seiyuu right off the bat chose 6, read the question, then immediately jumped to 1 Second segment was performances from the latest character song collection. This was fairly straightforward, each member performing their respective song one right after the other. Third segment was the best by far - "Meishin Nama Digest" aka a condensed summary of the series, with monologues and lines from key moments delivered by the seiyuu live. The monologues themselves were not from the show, they were made especially for this event. The whole thing takes place roughly in chronological order to the episodes, but at one point we actually jump back to the prequel, with Washio and Sonoko talking. This is where they introduced the surprise guest, Hanamori Yumiri as the voice of Gin, much to the delight of the audience. From this we go back to the present where Tougo is in the hospital with no memories. The rest of the summary plays out as expected, and ends with a live performance of the ED. After this, they perform the last song from the character collection CD, Yuuki no Baton. This is performed by all the cast members, including Sonoko and Gin. From there, they went over all the announcements and showed the new Washio PV. The event was scheduled twice on the same day, but there were no differences in content. My summary of the second segment doesn't do it justice; this was unarguably the highlight of the event. Even watching it twice back to back, I was in tears both times with how emotional the entire segment was. During Fuu's part of the digest, it led seamlessly into a live performance of Inori no Uta from Itsuki's seiyuu. I thought they were going to destroy us when Karin started saying her lines from Episode 11, but fortunately they cut out after her first Mankai. Props to Yuna for delivering her "TODOKEEEEE" scream twice in all its intensity live on stage. Other points of interest: 1. There were event goods available, but the majority sold out within the first two hours. 2. One fan was giving out Taisha and Vertext masks - they were really well made too, you could see while wearing them even though it didn't look that way from the outside! 3. Kameya Udon was there to sell 500 Yen Girl Power Udon 4. One announcement glossed over by news outlets was another Nogi Wakaba is a Hero drama CD being released at this winter Comiket. 5. I chatted with one of the staff afterwards, so just for clarification - The Washio prequels will show as movies first in March, April, and July. After that, they will be repackaged as the first 6 episodes when the "new" season of Yuki Yuna airs, presumably in the fall. All in all, it's a great time to be a Yuki Yuna fan - I'll edit this later with pictures maybe, right now just trying to jot everything down before I forget. |

There was also Moretsu! Space Pirates a few years ago. Its first 3 episodes premiered as a movie before the series. It was placed with the series threads anyway.
Since the last Washio Sumi movie will be in July, chances are the tv series will be set for the Fall season. I don't see them being eager to air the series mere weeks after the third movie. |

Oddly enough, theaters are selling the Blu-ray of it while the movie is screening, so I managed to use a proxy service to get a copy from Yahoo auctions.
If you've read the novel no surprises to be found, it's following it accurately. It covers up to the third battle. If you HAVEN'T read the novel, you'll see some nice nods to the present series, and the cast dynamic between the three is different enough to set it apart from Yuna's group. They've also emphasized how the Yuusha system was very much in its infancy at this time - every battle is hard fought. I'm hoping they'll continue this trend of having the Blu-Ray out while the other movies show, if only because I'm impatient for October |

That's actually a really clever arrangement. I've crossed the finish line for part one, and I enjoyed it. Further to this, they are indeed selling the BDs at their second part's theatre screenings. It's likely they'll do the same for the third part, then
