Spoiler for Maria being a maid:

It is stated later in manga that Maria, as much a child prodigy as she is, decides to be a maid of Senzenin house because she was an orphan and was adopted and raised by Nagi's grandpa, thus wanted to repay by dedicating her whole life to the house. This also explains her high status in the family and special bond with Nagi even though her title is a mere maid. In a way she is the Tom Hagen of the Senzenin family.

And regarding the incoming new characters

Unfortunately, prepare for a large influx of them and expect them not to show up after a 2nd time. Such is the common mistake of young/new mangakas, instead of developing current characters (aka making a plot advancement aka shortening the lifespan of the series), they just throw out new ones and never bother w/ them again after a few chapters. While the anime is well on its way up, the HnG manga is going downhill, just like School Rumbe)

Hey, sorry, I'm late to the show, really loving it so far.

I was watching episode 12 (or was it 11?) and I noticed that they played off a very old anime series when they did the "Dragon vs Hamster" showdown. I've been looking for the name of this show for so long. If anyone can tell me, I would greatly appreciate it. It was a show about swordsmen with armored costumes, and each was assigned an animal. The main character had a dragon, and when he "powered up" into his armor, that exact (at least from what I recall) animation would play in the background.

If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it!

PS. I'm not thinking of Dragonball Z!

Perhaps I'm the only guy who noticed the especial detail to the kendo scenes? That's far better than I expected from a series like this. I think they have a kendoka on staff who forced the art to be drawn correctly and even added a couple of real exercises going on in background images.

btw is it me or is the anime putting scenes in a diff order to that of the manga?!

I just started the manga recently and I was reading through the character profiles of vol. 1 and I noticed it says that Hayate's elder brother is missing. Does anybody know about this?

Ah yea I read that too, would like to know as well.

hehe and also as noted as 1 of Hayates specailites - survival (he is able to survive any situation) makes me chuckle whenever i think about, but for some reason I have no idea

Ahh Maria...Beauty and Brains it seems.

Pretty average setup episode overall though. Didnt know Nagi had so much respect for Hina though...Kindof really curious to see how that plays out.

Hinagiku is Nagi's foil. The one person Nagi feels she can't win against, but who she really (grudgingly) likes and respects.

This will become VERY interesting in the future.

for better of for worse id say...the world has a grudge on hayate but he is as resistant as a cockroach when it comes to avoiding death

SAME! I love Mami Kawada songs! Anyone know if the full version is out, I don't think so though
