Case in point, I do understand what you're saying, if you meant to perceive the Linker Cores as being absorbed into the Book of Darkness itself.

On Intelligent Device...

Spoiler for Intelligent Device and associated skills:

Arkadia's Intelligent Device is a 3 pointed, dual bladed polearm/spear named Paradox (??????). Unlike most Belkan devices, Paradox is customized to speak Hebraic, and not German, as it is Arkadia's language of choice.

Paradox uses none of the traditional Belkan magical arts of protection, and she also does not use many attack spells. preferring instead speed as hers and her master's protection and power, due to her master's severe lack of magical stamina, and inversely proportionate physical stamina.

Her special effects color is composed of a crimson-violet-black miasma.

Spells:

Paradox Lance: Arkadia's answer to her above problem, it is simply a magical projection of a spear, which she can split to wield one spear in each hand. Paradox herself is pretty sharp as well, so it helps to have some magic on it.

Klein Shooter: 4 swirling bolts of energy that surround and defend Arkadia from attack. They can also be a sneak attack on their own, sliding along the ground to spring a nasty surprise. Actually, it's nothing impressive, just trace magic from Paradox Lance.

Void Cleaver: Her only commonly used example of conventional magic, a barrier breaking slash, range irregardless. Can be used to shatter binds as well.

Now, on to more powerful spells.

When she so chooses, she could use these spells as well, but due to her incompatibility issues with her multiple cores the casting time is slowed down, and if she attempts to increase said speed, she may suffer damage due to the increased strain placed on herself.

Dot Hack: Has nothing to do with Paradox, it is Arkadia's own personal finisher: modifying another mage's attack code and equations as they appear. Normally, it can only be used AFTER she has seen the attack once before, as she usually needs to remember the source text of said move first, save for more rudimentary, common magics.

Void Walk/Dash: Able to transport any given number of allies from one place to another. Some magical force, however, must be given to counter the use of a Barrier/Field/AMF if such a thing be in place, thus making this rather slow.

Horizon Shot: Her only usable trump card. A straight forward, extreme-range attack. It can also be focused into something only the width of her little finger from its original size of half-body height and width, to increase precision and damage in a localized area.

Unholy Spiral: Her last trump card, which has only been used once, to disastrous results; she almost died using it, due to the sheer magical strain of it all (see backstory). Generates a pillar of blades that is all deadly at the sides, and calm in the center. Acts like an industrial vacuum cleaner, Belka style.

On Barrier Jacket...

Black vest and hood, with a crimson scarf, and violet lining on her sleeveless top. There are tattoos one can see on her arms, some crimson curl design of sorts, and lastly, slacks for pants, with a similar red design at the bottom. Finally, plating around her wrists, high-heel boots, gauntlets and ankles.

And now the Unison Device, or is it?

Spoiler for Unison Device:

Arkadia's Unison Device's name is Shadow. However, certain features about her may discount her as such a device.

For example, Arkady had no memory of her in the least until the events that caused her supposed death, and she addresses herself in private as "Claudia Sougan", whom Arkadia also had no memory of till said time.

Also, there is a noted lack in their relationship of an actual Unison occurring, although Arkadia herself speculates that this is due to her magic incompatibility issues.

Overall, identity issues regardless, Shadow, the Great Unknown is an excellent support mage, specializing in movement type spells. A noted idiosyncrasy of hers is to wear Paradox around her neck wherever she goes, thus the combo name, Paradox Shadow, as the two of them are often mistaken to be one and the same.

And now (phew) the Backstory.

Spoiler for backstory:

Little is known about her early life, such as her original surname and world of origin, as the now-defunct Black Ops used to practice the deletion of one's original name.

However, more is known about her active life in the TSAB, and in the (now-defunct) Black Ops. She was said to have displayed exceptional, if not to say legendary planning and leadership skills. She was also known to not have had any known friends, or close relations with people in the Ops or in any other TSAB force, instead choosing the company of animals, most of which she had an uncanny way with. Chronic health issues plagued her a great deal, the details of which still baffle many Investigators.

In a medical report for her first year in the Ops, it was mentioned that she suffered from a mild case of schizophrenia and necrophilia, but there was no mention of the disease which was said to plague her, which has proved puzzling to most Investigators.

More intriguing was the fact that despite the fact that her psycho-analytic report turned up that she was more than slightly averse to killing, she was still allowed to remain in the service.

In any case, Arkadia Sougan has been missing for the last decade following an ill-fated mission concerning a large-scale Time-Space Displacement which took the lives of 4 other Ops Elites: Talon Cygnus, Taki Wuhrer, Kai Eisenlaufen and Gwen Kissinger. It was also during this mission that she used her 'Unholy Spiral', which was, to all reason, what caused her early and tragic demise.

She was posthumously awarded the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Her body was, like the other 4, never found.

*NOTE: Following that mission, the Black Ops was re-absorbed into the Enforcer Unit, as it was felt by the Three that it was unnecessary and cumbersome to have a splinter group that functioned almost independently of all other existing forces.

However, it is of note that before the "Black Hole Incident", as the fiasco became known as after the demise of the Three, the Black Ops has never failed a single mission.

Good use of Hebrew, and quite a complete list. Well done!

But, if I read one of the skills right, it looks quite powerful: Dot-Hack, which allows a mage to copy another mage's skill. It's like, you can cast whatever spell the enemy has cast as long as you've seen it ONCE. Quite powerful, considering that if you copy the Hounds of Artemis ...

(I know where you get the skill, though.)

Yes, Xellos is HAXX. He's one of the most powerfull beings in the entire SlayerS universe. One of his main atraction points is that you know he's powerfull enough to kill everyone if he wants too. He just doesn't do it because he can use them for some obscure plan.

SlayerS itself, though, is a show filled with pseudo-HAXX. In the very first episode Lina already uses a town demolishing spell.

The power of this spells tends to vary, too. Sometimes its even fired at point-blank range and everyone survives. The main atraction of the anime is to me therefore the comedy-mixed action (because, mind you, it still has good action). Great characters, and an IMO good plot.

Yes, Xellos is HAXX. He's one of the most powerfull beings in the entire SlayerS universe. One of his main atraction points is that you know he's powerfull enough to kill everyone if he wants too. He just doesn't do it because he can use them for some obscure plan.

SlayerS itself, though, is a show filled with pseudo-HAXX. In the very first episode Lina already uses a town demolishing spell.

The power of this spells tends to vary, too. Sometimes its even fired at point-blank range and everyone survives. The main atraction of the anime is to me therefore the comedy-mixed action (because, mind you, it still has good action). Great characters, and an IMO good plot.

Introduction
Astral magic system stands for “Ambient STRength AmpLification” magic system. As its name implies, the users of this magic system collect energy—otherwise called Elements—from their ambience (environment) to power up their spells. Currently, the only know users of this system are the Mage-knights, whose presence has long disappeared and thought to be extinct.

Mage-knights
Mage-knight is the term used to define a person who uses the Astral magic system. Unlike conventional Mid-childan or Belkan mages, Mage-knights do not possess Linker Cores. Instead, they utilize energy they draw from their surroundings to cast spells. In traditional Mage-knight Charters, every elite assembly of mage-knights consists five individuals with specialized skills and Titans:

1. The Saint of the Scepter
   The Saint of the Scepter can be regarded as the leader of the quintet, and is the most powerful mage-knight in the group. The Saint specializes in wide-area magic, and has powerful arsenals of attack and defense spells at their disposal.
2. The Master of the Sword
   The Master of the Sword acts as the secondary leader and tactician for the mage-knights, and has great melee capabilities as well as physical augmentation spells.
3. The Sage of the Harp
   The Sage of the Harp is an intelligent advisor of the quintet and has powerful long range attacks and supporting spells. The Sage is generally weak at close-range, and would not expose him or herself to danger by doing so.
4. The Hunter of the Claw
   The Hunter of the Claw is a swift, agile fighter, preferring to disable or kill their enemies with quick, brutal attacks. Often, they act as the primary attackers for the mage-knights.
5. The Baron of the Mace
   The Baron of the Mace is the foremost tanker and defender of the quintet, whose abilities specialize in casting strong defensive and protective spells. Unlike the other mage-knights, the Baron also has a Shield Titan.

The abilities of each Mage-knight complement the others, and it is said that when all five combine, they would be invincible.

Trainings
The path to becoming a Mage-knight is arduous and difficult, as they have to go through intense trainings in various fields to succeed the trials. The trials are overseen by an Astral Master, who guides them and teaches them the Charters as they go along the training. In time, when it is deemed all right, the Astral Master would leave the potential Mage-knights to form their own groups.

Elements
Elements are to Mage-knights what Mana is to Mid-childan and Belkan mages. Mage-knights have developed a particular technique that allow them to funnel Elements—which are quintessentially the abundant raw energy that permeates the environment—into the interface between their body and the surroundings. When drawn, the Elements are refined into more precise and usable forms of energy in the Mage-knight, which is the fundamental of Astral spellcasting. Mage-knights, however, cannot draw in Elements that have already been used, such as Mana that have already been used to cast spells, because of the incompatible structures and configurations for Astral spells. Elements reside in all things, the most basic being the omnipresent air, water, fire, and earth.

Titans
Titan is the term for a Mage-knight’s weapon, which is equivalent to a Device for conventional mages. The six basic forms of Titans are: Scepter, Sword, Harp, Claw, Mace, and Shield, one for each of the Mage-knights, except for the Baron of the Mace, who possesses both the Mace and Shield Titans. Titans appear metallic, constructed from special materials that allow them to stabilize the Elements the Mage-knights draw for casting spells. Additionally, Titans can also amplify the strength or capacity of the spells, making them more powerful at the cost of backlash to the Mage-knights.

Mage-knight Abilities
All Mage-knights train through special routines that allow them to maximize their potentials. Elite Mage-knights are able to perform more powerful spells and effects that normal Mage-knights could not. In addition, the abilities of the spells are greatly enhanced when cast by trained Mage-knights. Some of the Mage-knight abilities are as follows:

• Precision control
  All Mage-knights have a certain level of precision control, which basically means how well a Mage-knight is able to control the Elements. Trained Mage-knights can control the Elements so well that they can cast spells continuously without tiring. Also, precision control confers greater ability to the Mage-knight against Combusting or Immolating when casting spells that require a large amount of Elements.
• Capacity enhancement
  Capacity enhancement refers to the amount of Elements that a Mage-knight can take in before reaching the danger limit of Combusting or Immolating. Capacity enhancement also determines how fast a Mage-knight can draw in and process the Elements, which result in faster spellcasting. Trained Mage-knights can draw in huge amounts of Elements at accelerated speeds.
• Physical augmentation
  A special ability mostly for melee Mage-knights, they can use the Elements to empower their physical attributes. For example, a Baron of the Mace can enhance the durability of his physical self by augmenting the Elements into his skin, which basically make him capable of taking more damage than usual. A Hunter of the Claw can increase his or her speed and evasion rate by augmenting the muscles of the body.
• Elemental control
  A special ability usually for ranged Mage-knights, they are able to manipulate the very essences of Elements themselves, allowing them to control the forces of nature. Such ability is highly dangerous and commonly used only by skilled Mage-knights, as it is capable of delivering devastating attacks that affect a wide area.
• Mana disruption
  A Mage-knight can also disrupt the flow of Mana in another mage’s body, by physically touching the said mage and drawing the Elements from the mage’s body. However, such action is often prohibited amongst the Mage-knights, whose codes of honor dictate the disgrace of using such move. In any case, the Mage-knight is required to touch the mage directly without any barrier between them. Barrier Jackets and gloves are such barriers that prevent a Mage-knight from using this move.

Dangers of Astral Magic System
As much as Astral is a powerful non-basic magic system, it has its drawbacks that are potentially fatal to the Mage-knights. Side-effects such as dizziness, lethargy, and rapid aging are the signs of Astral overuse. Also, continuous use of Astral system drains the Elements of the Mage-knight’s body, making them weaker as they age. Most Mage-knights do not live past 35 years old, the oldest Mage-knight ever recorded being 48 years old. Other than that, there are two other dangerous backlashes that most Mage-knights would suffer if they are not careful: Combustion and Immolation.

• Combustion
  Broadly speaking, a Mage-knight can Combust when the Elements they draw are disrupted. Elements are volatile energy, which can cause self-damage when not contained properly. Processed Elements are collected and stored in a Mage-knight’s organ prior to complete spellcasting, to which they are all contained by a latticework of the Mage-knight’s own Elements to prevent them from causing Combustion. The latticework acts as a barrier to confine the Elements into a particular area that will channel the spell before being amplified by the Titans. Inefficient precision control results in a weak latticework that could not contain the Elements properly, resulting in the Elements escaping from the area and burst out (called Combusting), causing damage to the Mage-knight. Strong magic attacks are also capable to destroying the latticework. Combusted Elements usually damage a local area, and commonly at the organ where the Elements are contained.
• Immolation
  Immolation is the most dangerous form of backlash that a Mage-knight can suffer. Immolation occurs when the Elements did not Combust, and instead, they remain in the Mage-knight’s body. The energy of those Elements would trigger a massive chain reaction in the body, causing the Mage-knight’s own Elements to excite and become volatile. The energy would become so violently reactive that the Mage-knight would burst into flame, and there is usually no hope of survival.

Spells
Spells in Astral system are cast using Elements, the refined elemental energy from the surroundings. Astral spells are usually powerful, capable of creating extensive damage or protect effectively against enemy spells. However, since Mage-knights rarely cast spells by using their own Elements, they need to draw the necessary Elements from the surroundings. This would require some time, but trained Mage-knights are able to channel their spells at faster rates. Each Mage-knight knows a set amount of Astral spells, taught to them according to the Titans they use, and cast by saying the Activation Phrase.

Arcc's Intelligent Device is named Kern. It has only only one mode, which is the shape of a round shield with a short spike in the center. It operates on the old Velka system (though it doesn't speak German), as it pertains to support-class knights. Its special effects are light blue in coloration. Because its skills focus almost exclusively on defense, they are somewhat stronger for the amount of magical energy they require than the defensive abilities on a less specialized device.

Kern's Targe Mode Abilities:

Round Shield: The devastatingly obvious.

Bulwark: Localized barrier, roughly equivalent to Defenser Plus or Protection Powered. Its efficiency is optimized for shielding allies (or "friends").

Exoskeleton: Reinforces the bearer's body to reduce or negate impact shock, and improves the body's general recoil capability.

Target Spike: The only directly offensive ability Kern holds by default. The spike in the center of the shield elongates and shoots forward. Can also parry an attack from a distance, but this ability requires pinpoint accuracy and timing use effectively, so it's generally reserved for when an opponent leaves himself wide open while trying to break through defenses.

Crystalline Cage: A potent barrier that binds an opponent within a prism-shaped field. We've seen this before; this variant also attempts to crystalize molecules in the air to reinforce the field physically, though this part takes more concentration/energy and of course the skill to not harm the captive in the process.

Dust Devil: a matter manipulation spell; forces particles in the air to form sand-size grains and churns them into a small but furious sandstorm with a protected eye in the center.

Shifting Stones: A stronger matter manipulation spell; as long as the user is on solid ground, that ground's shape can be manipulated to a limited extent (example: forming a stone wall to deflect a physical threat, or creating a shelter against weather).

Arcc's matter manipulation abilities require much more mental focus and magic energy than basic techniques due to the difficulty of altering things at what is often just above a chemical level. He's not quite at the level that he can use these three easily without assistance from a Unison Device.

Kern's Full Drive is called "Aegis," and it is a massively powerful barrier of the caliber that only a specialized defensive knight can create. It can be small or wide area, but it would take the final Full Drive of at least a mage or knight of higher rank to break it. When Arcc is backed by his unison device, it would probably require more than one of them.

The last ability in Arcc's repertoire is not something that Kern can do normally, and Arcc isn't very good at it either. It's a wide-area offensive magic technique called Luminaire, which is supposed to deal significant light and lightning-based magic damage as well as blind foes. It was a technique passed down through his family over the centuries, which he was taught by his grandfather when he inherited his family's legacy prior to leaving Earth. One of his ancestors was taught it by a great sage of Midchilda long ago. However, every time Arcc has tried to use it himself has resulted in utter disaster, and it's too dangerous a skill to practice, so it's a poor idea even as a true last resort.

The other part of his inheritance is a Velkan unison device. She is human female in form with long blue-black hair that she keeps in a ponytail, and appears as if she were in her early twenties. When Arcc recieved her she had been dormant for several hundred years and was in fairly bad condition, and upon repairing and reviving her upon reaching Midchilda, she had lost most of her memory including her name. Arcc suggested to name her "Hope, the Eternal Dawn," partially in making fun of her, but she liked the name and it stuck. In spite of her age and appearance, she frequently acts like a selfish child. She has an offensive power of zero, but is skilled with healing magic.

Arc Collins was born on Earth, but his bloodline is actually Midchildan. His ancestors came to Earth for reasons that are not really clear, settling in Ireland several hundred years before the founding of the TSAB. They gradually melded in with Earth society while keeping their history hidden to all but certain family members in each generation who were chosen as heirs to the secret. Arc was one such child, and was raised in that knowledge; but he always dreamed of returning to the planet of his family's origin and training in real magic rather than just the fragmentary lore that he learned from his family. But of course, that was somewhere he couldn't get from where he was. It was a coincidence that while visiting England at age 16 he met the retired Admiral Gil Graham on a train, who immediately recognized that he had high potential if he were to enter the TSA Academy. Graham arranged a meeting with an aquaintance in the Saint Church to see if they would sponsor him, and he was accepted. At that time Arc returned to his grandfather's residence in California and explained things, and his grandfather reluctantly decided to hand over some of the family heirlooms that might be useful for him. These included the unison device Hope (who was in a state of stasis in a magically sealed box at the time), some very old diaries, and the knowledge of the (seemingly useless) Luminaire technique, which he wouldn't otherwise have been taught until later. At this time Arc began calling himself by his first name only, spelled with an extra "c" at the end because he knew his family did not want to get involved with a society they had been apart from for so long. Arcc spent a year at the TSA Academy under the sponsorship of the Saint Church, and then he decided he would prefer to work directly under them. Due to his use of an older-style Velka system in conjunction with a unison device, he was not well suited for training as a mage, so he decided to train as a straight-up knight instead. He has been under their tutelage since then, and although he is still technically a student and is lacking in experience and technique, he has gained enough raw ability to be a match for some of the lower knight captains.

I wonder how many characters you have that are completely focused on defensive tactics? My character may be hard to defeat, but he's a team player who really can't win on his own either.

Ancient Belkan? Affliated with Saint Church? Might want to change that. It's kinda frowned upon that users of Old Belka in TSAB/official organizations exceed what was stated of Wolkie +Saint Church clique.

Otherwise, it's not that bad. Needs to see more details, but overall it's nicely balanced.

Second question everyone is scratching their heads here. What is the full capabilities of a UD? Are those capabilities what set them apart from other type of devices? Are they vastly superior? Other than that we know they are self-conscious, have human-like intelligence, and can function independently.

It is possible that in unison, there is a unison/linkage/bonding of LCs thus mana is shared, so perhaps mana issue is void. What does unison mode offer? We know Hayate benefits from better spell control and possibly mana management, how about the knights? The previous discussion I wondered if different UCs have different "attributes" and thus their unison mode is different. Example is Signum's and Agito's unison mode being vastly different from Signum and Rein's.

AFAIK, the TSAB know very little about Ancient Belka and its technology. But I guess fanon is gonna change that since Keroko and Kha are planning on writing on Ancient Belka and all.

Argh I ramble again...I don't know really, all we have are questions but no answers.

Maybe UDs aren't that common because there aren't many suitable Belka users
And as for Signum's and Agito's unison being different from Rein's...it's pretty much the same as Zest's with Agito. There's some compatibility but not as high as Signum's with Agito.

About their height being 30cm...Rein mentioned in SS01 that it's easier for her to move around, it's called Compact Mode. She even says that in full size it's harder for her to use magic and even fly.

Aozora started his life on Earth, the son of an Earth mother and Midchildan father. He never knew his parents; his father, frail and weakened from years of disease, died before he was born. His mother was killed in a car accident less than a month after he was born.
Aozora had no memories until he was around six; medical tests have since shown that his memory was heavily suppressed during that time. He awoke on a desolate planet far away from Earth, Midchilda, or civilization in general. The world, code-named “Dearth,” is a barely-habitable ball of rock in the absolute middle of nowhere. Nothing grows there, nothing lives there, and there are no seasons - just oppressive dry heat year-round. He has no idea who put him there - all that was left was a sort of camp with some basic gear.
Among this gear was a Device - though Aozora didn’t know it at the time. It took the form of a simple wristlet; yet emitted a kind of “sense” that tingled at his dormant magic power. When he touched the jeweled artifact, it activated, recognizing a new master - its old master had succumbed to Dearth as Aozora would have without it. The Device took the form of power armor - he didn’t understand it as such, nor the magic power awakened by the Device. It did, however, speak to him…the first voice he had ever heard.
Utopion, as it was named, agreed to take Aozora as its new master, and from there acted as a mix of guardian and friend. Subsisting off the meager supplies left behind, he taught himself magic under Utopion’s guidance. It took him almost two months to get the hang of it, but he had soon leaned the basics, and also simple teleportation. He could only do so for a short distance, and it left him drained, but he had escaped the ruined world that would have been his grave.
For ten years, he continued to expand his studies in magic, wandering the worlds as he did, taking work mostly as a mercenary and doing whatever he could to survive. He learned early on that although Utopion was a very powerful Device, it was not offensive; he constructed a crude gun-style weapon to serve as his means of attack. Over time, he collected weapon-related Lost Logia and other technologies, and began to build a proper Device. When he was 14, he completed the weapon’s first iteration - Zodia, a powerful energy rifle designed to maximize his now-honed ranged skills.
It was around this time that the TSA army offered to hire him as an enlisted soldier. He had already served briefly as a contract mage a year before, and his growing reputation as a successful bounty hunter and reliable mercenary has piqued the Bureau’s interest. He agreed to work for the army, but strictly as a contract mage; he seemed uncomfortable abandoning his freelancer’s ways. He has worked as such ever since, achieving a great level of respect among the military forces.
Over the nine years he’s spent on contract, he has, with TSA help, revamped both of his Devices multiple times, each version (supposedly) more powerful than the last. Utopion in particular has been a fascinating study by the Science Branch, being both ancient and using power technology. He has also been helped in these pursuits by master artificer and Special Assignments commando Asuka Tsukuyomi, who immediately took a fascination to his high-tech Devices, if not the man himself. They have recently developed a somewhat offbeat romantic relationship; passionate, but at the same time distant.

Aozora is a sarcastic thrill-seeker with a dim view of human nature. He’s somewhat introspective by nature; though not silent, he prefers to listen carefully. His strengths are in analyzing the situation rationally and making quick decisions about what to do next; this makes him a natural leader in battle(though he generally dislikes being in a position of leadership). Aozora’s decisions are swift, but he tends to favor haste, and thus tends to commit to Plan A without giving much thought to Plan B.
Though introspective, he’s fairly outspoken, particularly when he has a subject he wants to talk about, he certainly will talk. He is fond of conspiracy theories and rumors; while he usually keeps them to himself unless asked about it, he has a good ear for most of the…more shadowy goings-on both in and out of the TSA. This has given him a reputation as a reliable source of information as well as a good fighter.
Aozora is also a closet pervert…he has a very keen eye for the opposite sex, even though he has a significant other at present. He is, though, exceptionally good at hiding his “hobby,” to the point where the most perceptive of his “subjects” don’t know what’s going on. He’s strictly “look, don’t touch,” but takes the “look” seriously.” Asuka is perfectly aware of it, and though she administers regular lectures(some more physical than others) seems to have resigned herself to Aozora’s activities.
His relationship with Asuka is a point of interest - while it’s obvious they care for each other deeply, in public they seem almost distantly formal toward one another, as though they were merely acquaintances, with the exception of calling her “Asuka-hime” sometimes. Whether they merely eschew public displays of affection or just want to keep it strictly formal outdoors, is unknown. (Aozora declines comment, saying “That‘s just the way it is.”) Questions about their private activities should be left unasked.

Aozora is the textbook definition of “big, strong guy.” He stands just under six feet tall, and is muscular, with a solid build. If he has any scars or major battle injuries, they are well hidden by his clothing; the exception is a tiny scar in the shape of a “V” on his left temple. His hair, a bright, almost luminous silver, falls down to waist length; he usually wears it in a ponytail. It falls out of the back of Utopion’s helmet; he’s often mistaken for a girl until he takes it off. His eyes appear turquoise from the front, but possess chatoyance - as one looks at them from different angles, the color will appear to shift; they look as silver as his hair from the sides.
He normally wears a uniform of unknown design, although his is somewhat ratty looking and torn in places. He also wears a long black leather trench coat over it. This coat, like his uniform, is tattered and patched up; it’s definitely seen plenty of use. The coat has several chains and belts tied on to it. Often, he’ll wear it ronin-style, with his right arm out of its sleeve.

Aozora is a normal human in all respects except magic. He has no special powers or other unique abilities, is not cybernetic, and has not been genetically or physically modified. Therefore, he has trained himself strenuously, making himself a physical powerhouse. His magic is of fairly average power; it’s his specialized Devices that make him a strong fighter.
He’s utterly unskilled at close combat, but experienced enough at ranged combat that most enemies don’t get a chance to get into close quarters. He’s also developed several gun techniques that work as close combat deterrents.

Aozora wields two Devices; his powered armor, Utopion, and his energy rifle, Zodia. The two Devices are synergistically linked; Utopion’s mana batteries and fire-control software are a perfect boost for the shooter Aozora.

Utopion, as mentioned, is a high-tech suit of powered armor. It is of indeterminate age, but is well into the four-digit range; it has forgotten its own age. Sealed, it takes the form of a small wristband, with several silver links spread around it. A small crystal in the shape of a lightning bolt hangs from it. It speaks English - unaccented, male gendered, and with the grammatical “quirks” common to Midchildan Devices - though no tangible proof it’s Midchildan exists. It can also project holo-text displays and communicate that way. It does not call Aozora by any title and has no command phrase.
The armor’s composition is a light but strong xenometal atomically similar to cobalt. It is, however, quite heavy, weighing almost 200 lbs. empty. It therefore is power-assisted, using sophisticated powerboost technology to provide extra strength to its owner. It also gives Aozora the strength to hold his rifle Zodia one-handed, and use its heaviest magic shots with minimal recoil. It’s self-contained, apparently designed for hostile environment exploration, and thus enables its user to withstand effects that cause air deprival or similar.
Unconfirmed rumors in the military suggest that the first generation of Power Jackets (powered armor utilizing Barrier Jacket technology, on paper to start experimental production within the next decade) will be based on reverse-engineered specs of Utopion.
Utopion has a Full Drive mode called Gigadrive. This mode takes a large surge of mana from its user and forces it into Utopion’s own machinery. This mode renders the user almost invulnerable to injury, or at least able to shrug off the worst of it, for around fifteen seconds. It also dramatically boosts the armor’s strength-assist ability, rendering Aozora inhumanly powerful for a very brief time. Zodia, being linked to Utopion’s power, also changes, firing massive blasts of pure, unaltered mana instead of its normal energy bolts. If Aozora uses Gigadrive too often, it can cause the armor to malfunction, dropping his Barrier Jacket entirely and forcing a restart.

Zodia, on the other hand, is an Armed Device; unlike most, it’s a ranged weapon, an energy rifle with an overbearingly simple design next to Utopion. Like most Armed Devices, it speaks German. When sealed, it looks like an earring, a small green jewel with a silver tail. It has a deep male voice, and calls Aozora “Knopf”(Boss). Its command phrase is “Anschlag!” (Attack!)
Aozora built this Device himself; currently it’s on its seventh version. Its designed for heavy firepower, slower to fire but great in offensive power. It’s also very heavy; most humans would need both hands and have uncommon strength just to carry it, while Aozora needs both hands to fire its heaviest attacks even with his armor’s help.
It’s really a straightforward piece of equipment, designed to work with a mage trained in any kind of ranged gun combat. It has two forms and no Full Drive.
This is a good impression of the gun:

Barrier Jacket:
Utopion is a suit of powered combat armor; as such it isn’t really a “Jacket.” It default form is a lightweight suit that fully encloses Aozora; this is an accurate representation of it, though his does not have a gun-arm.


Forms:
Utopion:
The armor has four forms.

Tactical Armor -
The standard form of the armor. It has the most balanced parameters.

Glider Armor -
Glider Form is the only flight-capable mode in Utopion’s arsenal. Of its forms, it’s the most agile, best suited for water and other liquid environments, and the least defended. It’s a dark blue in color, and very streamlined compared to the normal armor - slimly built, with scales along the arms and legs and small backswept blades along the wrists and lower legs.

Shroud Armor -
A stealth setup designed for low-profile work - infiltration and sniping among them. Permanently protected by low-resonance stealth fields, this form emphasizes not being seen, and thus has very low-power defensive shields. It’s also equipped with a “burst jet” that can propel it at high speeds for a short time.

Crisis Armor -
A form meant for all-out combat. The most heavily armored form, Crisis form adds extra shielding and armor plating. It also adds a special “point-defense” to the armor; small lasers that can shoot down small projectiles such as Accel Shooter’s bolts. This form is very slow and heavy, and thus is ill-suited for dodging or escape.


Zodia:
The rifle has two forms.

Scharfschützengewehr (Sniper Rifle) -
The normal form, Zodia’s heavy rifle shots are made for strong single shots over long distances.

Repetiergewehr (Repeating Rifle) -
Turns the rifle into a chaingun-style weapon, complete with revolving barrels. This form sprays small shots at high speed, but at low power. Designed for shorter-ranged combat.

Spell List:
Aozora has no short ranged magic whatsoever; his entire arsenal makes use of gunslinging and bombardment. All his magic’s names are in German, even Utopion’s.

- Attack -
Rohr Schuss (Barrel Shot): Long-range, shooting; non-elemental
This simple but powerful spell charges mana in the gun’s barrel and fires a large bullet of magic energy, fast-flying and exploding on contact. His most often used spell and signature technique.

Triade Werfer(Triad Launcher): Mid-range, shooting, non-elemental
“Triade” is a misnomer; this attack actually works like a shotgun, firing a burst of almost a dozen small shots in very rapid succession. Due to the speed of fire, the shots spread out a bit, making it better for shorter range combat.

Riegelschütze (Railgun): Long-range, shooting, physical
This very slow but very strong attack slurps a cartridge to fire a piercing shot of mana condensed into a physical form. Great for sniping, but its slow recharge and massive mana drain makes it a one-shot option. Requires Scharfschützengewehr to use.

Bogen Hoehle (Arch Burrow): Long-range, bombardment, non-elemental
Often fueled by a cartridge or two, this is a simple cone of mana launched over a long distance. Unlike most bombardment spells, this attack’s dispersion pattern actually makes it more powerful over a longer distance. An all-purpose long range attack.

Abscheulichkeit (Hellishness): Mid-range, AOE, physical
Requiring Repetiergewehr, this simply “holds down the trigger,” firing a constant barrage of bullets. It fires at nearly double the weapon’s normal fire speed, making this move excellent for fire suppression. Repeated use can overheat the gun temporarily.

Heimkehrend Raketen (Homing Rocket): Mid-range, shooting, non-elemental
A slow but powerful attack that quaffs a cartridge to fire a homing missile of mana. It can be shot down, though it can take some damage before falling. Either way, it explodes with tremendous force, damaging everything nearby.

Sturm Beil (Storm Axe):Long-range, shooting, non-elemental
Draining two cartridges and a decent amount of mana, Aozora’s penultimate attack fires a pair of large shots, each charged with a reactive “shell.” This gives it piercing power against AMFs, and additional punch against Jackets or other shielded targets.

Kanoneangriff (Gun Attack): Mid-range, bombardment, non-elemental
Aozora’s strongest attack spell collects three separate streams of mana within his gun, and fires them off, where they combine mid-flight. The result is a blast of magic power equal to between two and three Starlight Breaker Pluses. Requires four or more cartridges and puts great strain on both Aozora and Zodia.

EDIT: That's two and three low-powered regular Breakers. A minor error in my own writing.


-Defense-

Beschuetzer (Guardian): Barrier
A standard auto-guard spell.

Eisenschlid (Iron Shield): Shield
Projects a very powerful triangle shield in front of Aozora. This is an extremely strong defensive power, but is even smaller than most shield spells.

Schildmauer (Shield Wall): Shield
Creates a large, diffuse wall of energy where directed. This spell is easy to break, but has the nasty effect of exploding violently upon being broken.

Akkuladeschaltung(Charging Circuit): Field
Uses a charged field from Utopion’s batteries to create an area of slow-motion where targeted. Used as a melee deterrent.

Notunterkunft(Emergency Shelter): Barrier
A last-ditch protection maneuver that detonates Utopion’s energy shields. The resulting blast deals heavy damage to any nearby enemies but leaves the armor unshielded until it recharges.


-Other-
Leistungsabgabe(Power Drain): Increase
Uses a power source as a tap to overcharge Utopion’s fields. This charge slowly drops to normal but provides boosted defense while active. Can also recharge depleted shields.

Raketenstart(Rocket Start): Movement
This spell all but launches Aozora at high speed, back rockets firing. Hard to control, but the resulting 400 pound missile is highly dangerous.

Ausbruch(Breakout): Break-out
A standard bind/effect breaking spell.

Strafanstaltketten(Prison Chain): Bind
Fires a thin chain of mana that acts as a bind. Can also act as a grappling hook.

Schattenfuge(Shadow Gap): Stealth
A stealth spell that block sensors and scanning. Does not block sight.

The Dothack, is, at least according to Arkadia, the only spell of hers that does not need a device to activate. Its first component is a natural talent of hers, to 'see' equations.

However, its second component, the ability to modify it, was a result of some research and past experience, most of which Arkadia refuses to state, due to their possibly more sensitive nature. Her only comment was that "it was the worst possible way to develop a spell, even worse than making it up on the fly with few considerations involved."

It was possibly developed around the period in which she went missing, thus explaining its initial, unrefined quality, and slightly haphazard programming.

Eheh~she's still grumpy...might need to write more now.

How she does it.

Spoiler for Process of Usage:

She attempts to memorise the 'source text' upon sight(the magic equations that she "sees") and then pinpoint where exactly to modify, or else, delete entirely. Only she knows what the commands are to change and delete. While the memory work may not always succeed at the first try, she usually can freely manipulate any more rudimentary unknown spell by the its 2nd use.

As removing the wrong section or changing it slightly off could result in worse odds than before (like extending the range of the enemy weapon by changing the "range" section wrongly), Arkadia uses this move with a great deal of caution.

As to her allies, she can also modify their skills in a similar fashion, and given enough time, can reprogram even the best of magical defenses and devices to suit their needs.

However, as to more basic, common spells...she can actually delete them before they get off the ground at one shot, by simply remembering the source text, and then removing whatever she needs to. Insofar as it's not a long spell, the equations can be remembered quite easily. Hey, if I can remember 200 000 over pieces of info for just a couple of tests, then I think this isn't too much to ask of her.

On how long the Hack lasts...

Spoiler for Duration of Hack:

Certain effects are only temporary, such as modified skills, as the said modification may not be advantageous in every situation. But she does keep a mental note of how she did it before, so the innovation can be used again if need be.

Certain effects, such as the dispel, are permanent. Reprogramming is also semi-permanent, although this latter one acts like a multi-session disk: pending further modifications.

And answering Keroko's question...

Spoiler for Downsides:

The main downside is the slow casting time. It takes 2 seconds even for a spell like a basic Bind. She's memorised that one, though, so that wouldn't work.

Also, she must make direct contact with her opponent, either BJ to BJ, or skin to skin in order for the spell to work. There cannot be any blockade in the way. Alternatively however, she could hit her opponent with her weapon or a magical projection for the effect to take place.

Thus, Arkadia normally has to stall for time first if the odds are against her. If it's an even-chance battle, then she'll fight head on and then find some way to cheat. If the odds are for her, likely she won't use the skill at all. It's a major drain on her magical stamina, and could get problematic with multiple uses.

While trapped in Hayate's office on "doctor's orders", she started to compile for herself a list of commands and shortcuts to equation modification and terminology, to facilitate further usage of her spell, which may or may not cause 1st time copies of enemy skills to become a reality in future.

However, she is determined not to share this information, or at least, she has been so far highly protective of her boredom cum injury-forced research...

And also, my first draft of something other than my character. FEESH. Spent so much time on just one character, it's kind of lack-of-life.

Location: Mid-Childa, Foyer outside the Ground Forces HQ
Time: 1640 Hours.

It’s been a while, Mid, since I last saw you. How are you today?

A robust figure of a man stood outside the one of the many unblemished foyers in the city central, watching the waves of the throng, like ripples in the limitless ocean. His eyes, piercing and cold, were but a thin veneer, shielding his innermost thoughts from view, and his face, though seeming ruddy and young, on closer scrutiny seemed now to be ageless and hale.

Something about all this gave him a brief sense of nostalgia. The sands of time had indeed sunk upon the city.

"My, how you’ve grown from the little child you were…you’re a fine young one, now..."

The sprawling metropolis was at running at its usual pace. Everyone had tasks to complete, responsibilities to fulfill, rides to catch. From the innocuous cries of little children at play and the vibrant colors of the outskirts to the streamline city central the sky-cleaving pinnacle which was the Headquarters of its military, it was just another day among many. Ordinary. Uneventful. Little was done this day that would be remembered at all by the next 2 years.

To think that to anyone else here, the city was always this way. Ah, but 6, 7 generations, what are they? Naught but the life of a worm, like the flowers of the field, blooming in their season in a kaleidoscope’s myriad beauty, and then to wither, leaving only dimmed ground and dimmed memories, the light of that moment gone, forever…

[Taki –san ~] An unfamiliar voice, ringing clear in his head, teased him in a playful fashion, dragging him kicking and screaming out of his whirlwind reverie. [I’m 5 minutes, 30 seconds and 98 microseconds late, am I not?] The voice was slightly distorted and mechanized, but was distinctly female. She was an AI.

"You know my name, and that is a surprise. However, give me about 10 seconds before I speak to you. I need to indulge in something of the mundane sort."

[Fair enough, but please, do not tarry.]

He strode calmly toward a half vacant bench. A young lady was seated there, silently, with a contemplative expression on her face, observing the sapphire sky. He was wordlessly pleased to see that someone, like him, would pause to look at the everyday beauty of nature, different and unique with each day.

“Excuse me, miss, could I rest here for a while?” No answer was given, but she moved a little to her side to indicate her consent. “Ah, then, my thanks.” He sank into his seat, and allowed himself to relax, if only just a little.

"Alright, I’m done with my little creature comforts. Begin, then, whoever you are. This had best be highly important, as I am rather busy at the moment-"

The disembodied voice gave a synthesized chuckle. [Ah. Rest assured we know what you are investigating. As a matter of fact, my purpose in being here is to request intel on your…progress. We need little of it, simply some basics, which you will, hopefully, provide.] The voice suddenly became serious, as though sensing his doubt. [I hail to you with the authority of the Circle of Lightning, General Taki Wuhrer…although, may I continue to call you ‘Taki-san”?]

He was surprised to see that anyone would have been so bold as to approach him in this fashion. Not in 3 decades, and more…but he would give her the respect due to someone of such a high caliber.

"Your request is honored. I will not ask your name, yet, lest you wish to tell me so. Now, listen carefully to the report. It isn’t much, but given the Circle, it will suffice, will it not?"

[Indeed. We do not need to know much. This is simply so we may minimize the wastage of time, effort and other essentials.]

"Indeed. Subject #1: Major Takamachi Nanoha. Aged: 23. Rank: SS. Also known as the White Devil, and –"

[TAKI-SAN~~~I was asking for her character, and you tell me her stats?] The half-hearted admonishment had a wan smile cross his lips at the more-than-slightly suggestive nature of the statement. The progress of Artificial Intelligence truly had people stumped.

"And just 20 years back, they wouldn’t have been even nearly as close to imitating human emotion as this. And now, we even have AI with attitudes. Just my luck to meet one as a contact from the Circle…I never could have felt fully comfortable around such beings of immortality…"

She said they did not need statistics. The Circle itself was either truly fearsome, or foolhardy, to simply dismiss the immense powers of such a one as redundant with such flagrancy. Thinking thus, he paused briefly to marshal his thoughts. "I was just getting to that. Strong girl. Tactically apt. Emotional though, and a little dense. Cares too much about her friends. Given your professionalisms, I need not go on, am I right?"

[Yes. It is more than sufficient. Actually, it has become too easy, I wish you had said less…] There was an unmistakable trace of disappointment in her voice. [And she has a great moniker.]

"Next, up, Fate Testarossa Harlaown. Aged 23. Rank as Major. Second Ace. Has 2…no, wait, 3 children. Emotional, a worrywart, and-"

[Wait, please hold up. What’s a worrywart?] That was unexpected, but the question sent him another wave of nostalgia. An AI who didn’t recognize such common colloquialisms was nothing short of a rarity among rarities.

Sighing, he gave his succinct reply, which ran along the lines of describing someone who worried a great deal.

[EH?!] Her shock was unadulterated this time. [She's not a ‘wart’, is she?!] The mental image pole-axed him so much, that his floodgates of emotion nearly burst on the spot, but he knew he had to cut the priceless moment short. "No, please, she’s a ‘woman’. ‘Wart’ is a simply a derogatory word, nothing more, nothing less. And I would appreciate it if you would not interrupt me all the time, AI or not. Thank you very much."

[I’m sorry.]

There was a brief silence, before the AI shattered it by pre-empting his third analysis with one of her own. Apparently she had used the seemingly insignificant silence to get one-up on him.

[I know the last girl. B.G Yagami Hayate. Aged the same. Rank…it’s irrelevant I guess. Smart, lively, a little to the book, but more importantly, cute and innocent in general.] He allowed himself another smile, his second of the day, at the sheer undisguised emotion of the response. Life was full of surprises, and this was one of those days.

"Have I said enough already?"

“Yes, Taki-san…you have.” The synthesized voice of before suddenly turned mellow, and it now had a source. Snapping his head around on reflex, he found himself a hair’s breadth from the stoic, impassive features of the pale young woman who was now looking unflinchingly at him with her deep, unreadable eyes.

Whirling back around to recompose himself at the sheer shock, the first thought that crossed his mind was: "How long has she been staring at me? I never noticed it…Impossible…this is…"

He turned around. The again electronic voice was getting distant, indicating that she was further away.

[My name is Shodan, the Herald of the Circle…Call me that, please.]

He looked down the foyer. The girl was gone.

And a quick preview for the next thing I'm doing...I suspect it may be at least 8 times as long when its done. If people read my weird previews earlier, it's the scene when Arkadia first locates Shamal. Before the near decapitation scene.

Well, depends how you define it . Shamsel is a Hawaiian Asian. It's just that he's of Asian ethnicity and the 'Hawaiian' part of because he is a resident (born and raised) of Hawaii, much like people from California are Californians. He is not, however, Hawaiian in the sense that he has Native Hawaiian ancestry. I hope that isn't too confusing to understand .

And if you haven't been to Hawaii before...the majority of the population is Asian, either in full or partial. Caucasian people, both full and partial, are kinda the minority which is the opposite of the continential USA . I think it was...2 or 3 years ago where the census showed that over 25% of the population of the islands had some Filipino ancestry . Just stating a few facts..I'm more than happy to divulge further if you want .
