Would yuri be more popular if it had more ecchi?
As most of you may know... real yuri is rare, and there's very little of it in anime. Although, subtext/fanservice is extremely prevalent. Shows like Cross Ange, Seikon no Qwaser, or Queens Blade have yuri but isn't the focus
Now, I've never seen a yaoi before, nor do I plan to, but I can say what other people say. I hear real yaoi is very perverted and pornographic... yuri is that way too, but not in the anime that focus on it... It's a known fact that yaoi outweighs yuri. However, if you count anime that just feature yuri but doesn't focus on it, there's probably more of that than legit yaoi or yuri. So... obviously, men like seeing lesbians. They're everywhere in anime. However, we don't really watch shows or read manga that puts way too much of a focus on emotions and shit. Basically... there's a HUGE oppurtunity for yuri to get popular. Obviously with all these ecchi shows and subtext shows, there is a demand for yuri by men. So... what option is there? Well... Give us what we want. I mean... Maria-sama and Aoi Hana are alright shows I guess... but those are shoujo anime. And well... male targetted anime tends to get more popular. I think we can all agree the best way to popularize yuri anime is to give it more ecchi... more explosions... more violence... more hardcoreness. I mean... Sakura Trick had some fanservice I guess. And that seinen, so there's no excuse.. yuru yuri was a little fanservicy but even that wasn't nearly ecchi enough. I mean... I'm not saying these shows should stop focusing on character and emotions... but... come on... Get a little raunchier. And I ain't talking about just having some panty shots once in a while |

Yes. Not every man is like you though. Your OP seems to project a lot of your own tastes onto the community at large. Besides, like GDiddy says, if you really want lewdness, you can always hunt down a nice hentai doujin. There's plenty out there, to be sure.

I thought it was popular in Japan, they try to add in it as much as possible no matter how little it makes sense with some Anime.
With romance type people I assume root for pairings they like, than normally in series two they for some reason decide to add in a lesbian like girl who obsesses over the main girl heroine who's already supposed to be paired up with the main guy character. Maybe that's why? I hate when that kind of stuff happens in Anime.

relentlessflame isn't sure either, so the thread is going to be locked.
relentlessflame also wonders why another forum member is apparently RPing in the threads. The anime sales thread pinned to this section at least give some indication of what sorts of shows are selling. Japanese disc sales are not the only important measure of popularity, but they are one factor. You can also consider the relative popularity of franchises based on the amount of merchandise and on-going spin-off material. As far as I have seen, the data has not demonstrated that yuri shows with a higher amount of either fanservice or explicit content have higher sales than shows that are more coy/reserved. We had a lot of discussion in the previous thread about issues related to this, so I think we can leave it at that.
