I don't know what to think.
The first movie showed incredible production values and a clear love for the original material. HOWEVER, it also seemed to go out if its way to do things that can be no better described than "STUPID". The movie alternated between a serious tone with a touch of humor and plot elements that make the original cartoon look like high-art literature. If it could have lost the stupidity (and I don't mean the whimsy), or at least STUCK with it, I'd have much better hopes for the next movie.

Hm, I actually liked the first movie. A lot. It had high production value and kept true to the spirit of the characters, even if the material was altered a bit. I also thought it was clever of them to even hint at the tension that existed between Megatron and Starscream. I'm not so sure about this one, though. I hope the old Decepticons like Starscream come back. (Yes, Starscream is my favorite Transformer. )

Yeah, the production values of the first movie were through the roof, and I thought the movie itself was decent, if nothing particularly great.
This is still one of those things where you think to yourself, "Why the hell did they need to make a sequel?" I would probably watch the second just to see Megan Fox, though. |

Still, it's Transformers. For all the parts of the movie I didn't like, it was still surprising good, and I'd watch a sequel or two as long as they finish up most of the story. And even if they somehow make it worse, it's still good eye candy. But I hope to god they tone down the human side of the story. The human cast was bigger than the robot cast and the army side story that converged with the main story was very very bad.

I liked the effects and CG in the first movie but the human characters and acting was typical mainstream, hollywood crap. Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, both love each other...but wait wasn't this about Transformers? Naaha.
I want it to be darker, more action and tone down the human part as much as possible, I want to see transformers. I think I'm hoping in vain.

On Transformers: I never saw the original material and knew jack about it. Saw it with my little brother and the gal on separate occasions and both thought it was pretty good. The masturbation joke threw me off though. Some of the early soldiers vs. transformers scenes were really nice though. |
