Yeah. In episode 1, while talking with Daru, Okarin says that they've known each other for 3 1/2 years. Daru responds by saying that they met each other as 2nd years in high school although they didn't really get to know each other until later on.

To me it's not strictly a "lab", it's just where he indulges in his hobby which happens to be somewhat-scientific endeavors. Afterall Mayuri used it to sew her clothes. And the building he rent from Tennoji is said to be so cheap so that's why he can afford it.

Again, I agree. The lab is more like a club house for geeks rather than a lab proper. LOL I wonder, does Okarin live there? Probably. I can't imagine him affording an apartment that he doesn't actually live in.

In reality, address of his parent's home is Ikebukuro and lab is Akihabara. So he can go back home in 20~30 minutes via train. (Mayuri's home is Ikebukuro, too)

I'm not sure if using a time machine as a wishmaker is such a wise idea. Certainly blurs the line between science and magic, though. I thought that assuming Moeka ceased to exist was a bit outo f the way, but the idea of Luka becoming a girl...really, Rintaro, investigate a little further. Girls can be flat chested, you know. It was amusing that Itaru's D(eLorean) Mail had no effect at all. Maybe Faris is just that good. I wonder what kind of experiments they're going to get up to next. And how big they're going to go.

I've no words to describe this episode with .. This series really gets better and better with every new episode. I must say that I'm really really really anxious to see the next episode after I always watch the newest episode of Steins;Gate. If this keeps up, this will deserve the spot of best anime of all time in my list.

If he changed something, what did he change? Speculation leads me to believe that Ruka's gender (due to reaction, but that might've happened even if he was still a guy) could be a possibility. If so, it just goes one step further in proving how dramatic an impact the D-mail can have.

• Was Moeka also using her phone during the experiment that made memories of her disappear? Which reminds me that when she was introduced she was taking pictures in order to prove that she has been to certain places... so at least she is aware that changing past affects everyones memory, which if true implies that there are no parallel time-lines, but just one.
• How could they have sent a message 17 years in the past, how long can that microwave's counter go
• And what did actually change by sending a message in numbers to the pager of the wife of a kannushi

Spoiler for Ep 8: Time changes phones and genders:

So, with the world line changing capabilities of the microwave discovered, things seems to get more serious now. The episode is spent on the experiments, first with Daru (who seems to have failed? Or does it not make any notable changes at all? Maybe the change is with the off-screen Feyris?) and then Moeka. I was really scared that she was erased out of existence, especially the burden on Okarin as not only is he somehow related in her vanishing, he's the only one who remembered he ever exists. His freak-out is very understandable for me, as well as his relief (I did the same thing too) when he got her mail.

But the biggest change of all is without a doubt with Ruka. Now, I wonder, is it possible that he did change after all? (Oh boy, the pronoun will be hell) I'm basing this on several things, first of all is how Ruka immediately covers Ruka's breasts (seems strange for a guy), how even Mayushii thinks Okarin is a pervert, and while I think it can be used either way, Mayushii called Ruka Ruka-chan as opposed to how she regularly uses Ruka-kun before. Dammit, DFC, why must you be so ambiguous? Really, even if you know it's a trap, doesn't mean you can dismantle it right away.

Oh, and btw, I agree with Malkuth - I don't even have to be Daru to see that Kurisu is emanating some serious yuri vibes.

I'm relieved that Moeka didn't disappear entirely. As soon as Ruka wanted to send a D-mail, I knew he'd want to change into a girl. When he first brought that up I was thinking "cell phones weren't common in the early 90s and they didn't have messaging", but I was glad to see the story accounted for that. However, as a couple of people have already mentioned, how did they send the message 17 years into the past? The counter on the microwave didn't reflect that amount of time (that would be around 150,000 hours).

I believe Ruka did change into a girl. Notice how Mayuri refers to Ruka with "chan" after the world line changed. Didn't Mayuri always use "kun" with Ruka before?

Now for some thoughts on earlier episodes. I re-watched episodes 1-7 and noticed some things. In episode 1 at the beginning, when the satellite "lands" (instead of crashing) on top of the building before the world line shift -- who is the person that Okabe sees on the roof? If you look closely, the hair under the cap looks like Suzuha's. Also notice the military style cap and uniform, and remember that Suzuha says she was already a soldier. I think that is her.

About Moeka -- why is she so obsessed with taking pictures? She doesn't seem to trust her own memory, so I am wondering if she is aware of the world line shifts and trying to preserve some record of the world before the shift (although it seems likely any pictures in her cell wouldn't survive the shift either, so I am not sure about this theory).

On a less serious note, I just noticed Mayuri's eyebrows. They're kind of scary.

Also, no one ever changes their clothes, except for Ruka's "normal" clothes (instead of a miko outfit). I can see Daru wearing the same clothes every day since he's an otaku nerd, but the girls especially should have different outfits.

One last thing: people not recognizing pagers is making me feel old.

Moeka still does exist, the phone rang becaue he texted her and she said shes busy at the moment. But like how Malkuth pointed out it seems like the IBN 5100 is gone and that was the main reason she came to the lab otherwise she had no reason to come visit so thats why no one else knows her. (Kurisu said it something changed so she didn't come IBN.)

But why would her not buying a new phone cause him to not have the IBN and how would their knowledge on the D-Mail still exist without learning about the Human Is Dead Experiments.

Doesn't really make sense. im gonna rewatch to double check lol

Spoiler for Ep. 8:

Steins;Gate just keeps getting better and better every week. Excellent episode. I liked how Okarin was genuinely worried that the D-mail Moeka sent seemed to have erased Moeka from existence, and then how Okarin was relieved that she still existed, but never came to the lab in the first place. It shows how human he is despite his eccentric personality. Even though the plot is starting to move now in a quicker pace, the dialogue is still golden. I laughed hard at some of the comments Daru made. And surprise, Ruka wants to be a girl so they send a D-mail to his mom's pager 17 years in the past. It seems Ruka indeed turned into a girl but Okarin doesn't seem to noticed since she's still flat-chested But the big question is how did they send a D-mail 17 years in the past in the first place? I don't think the microwave can go that far back...unless they modified it somehow.

O and dat double tu-turu~

Spoiler for Episode 8 Thoughts:

Things are ramping up.

1) Unless I'm missing something, Okarin already went through divergence with his memory intact prior to his starting all these experiments. Episode one, when Kurisu died and then un-died. Which means someone's already been changing the past.

2) Shining Finger had a weird smile as she sent her D-mail. In fact, the very act of her sending the D-mail, rather than another character, makes me seriously question if her D-mail really was to tell her past self not to change her phone number. Unless Okarin has only been conversing with her for a few days (hard to tell how much time passes between episodes, though I know they flash dates here and there), he could probably work out whether or not she was even telling the truth about the phone number, if he ever grew suspicious.

3) That was incredibly reckless sending a D-mail 17 years into the past, no matter how innocuous. That's a lot of time for changes to accumulate over, possibly resulting in some massive changes in the present.

4) This may just be a mistake on the anime's part, as keeping track of everything in a time travel story is incredibly difficult, but Kurisu acted like this was the first time she'd heard of Okarin's ability to retain his memory in the timeline after the Shining Finger experiment. Yet, we know he's already changed time in that new timeline previously because of Rika having done the lottery ticket (you can see that even in this timeline she's given the wrong lottery number), so he should have also already conversed with Kurisu about his ability to retain time before he had that conversation with her about it on the roof.

5) I wonder if Suzahu, or whatever faction she represents, is responsible for Kurisu's death in episode one. Her actions seem to insinuate that Kurisu is part of whatever the problems are in Suzahu's future. That said, it must be incredibly frustrating trying to change the past (whoever killed Kurisu in episode one) if you don't retain memory of doing so in the new timeline. And, yet, the act of not remembering would suggest if Suzahu had been the killer, she'd have kept trying, since she wouldn't have remembered doing it already and failing (if that makes sense). I do not think Suzahu is Titor, unless she's just incredibly paranoid and acting the way she did in case Okarin might have an inkling of thought that the two might be the same.

6) Actually, let me re-think #5. If you were a physical time traveler, and went into the past and made a change that caused divergence, you wouldn't actually forget your actions would you? This is a different set of circumstances than sending a message to the past, which changes time, so that the very act of having to send that message never occurred. Except, is it? Wouldn't killing Kurisu change the future, where this time traveler presumably comes from making this time traveler in the future no longer have any motive for going into the past to kill Kurisu. So, the question is, then, the time traveler who is still in the past...does this time traveler become exempt from divergence like Okarin? Because the idea of how to deal with a paradox is always difficult with time travel, and it would seem if there isn't some mechanism in this story to deal with an issue like this, whoever murdered Kurisu would have never gone back in time to murder her in the first place after murdering her changed his/her "present". Except, I think we've already been told what would happen. After all, the messages themselves don't actually vanish as Okarin changes time, so if one thinks of a physical time traveler as simply another form of a message being sent back in time, they wouldn't vanish either, and would, like the phone text messages, sort of exist outside the constraints of normal time, being immune to divergence themselves.

7) Yet, if we are to take Titor at face value, he needs Okarin for his ability to cheat divergence, which would insinuate a time traveler can't cheat it. ie: Any time traveler that actually makes a change would be affected by it, possibly meaning they are limited to one divergence causing change before being erased from the past. Or, I'm totally overthinking this issue. :/ Because, you'd think a time traveler like Titor who went into the past and said the things he's said has already caused divergence, and still seems to be around memory and body intact, making his need for Okarin questionable.

They changed his gender

That's a revolutionary use of time travel. No need for a sex change operation when you can just send a message to the past to tell your mother to eat some vegetables. I honestly don't know how I should react regarding that new development. That's certainly something I never saw coming

Girl or boy, I think Kobayashi Yu was a bad choice for Ruka. She doesn't fit shy characters like him. When he freaked out, all I could hear was Sa-chan's voice... who is pretty much the total opposite of Ruka.

I can't remember who said it, but Mayuri really does seem to be slowly building a (yuri) harem. Nobody seem to be able to resist her. Her childish cuteness coupled with the odd motherly vibe she's giving off make her incredibly endearing.

Moeka is very suspicious. I can't help but think she sent a totally different message than the one she told Okarin. He should have checked the contents of the message first.

Kurisu, Daru, and Okarin were respectively as tsundere, perverted, and mad as usual. Even though he's creepy, Daru is very entertaining and rarely fails to crack me up

I seriously disagree here.
I think Yū was an amazing pick for Ruka's role. Her voice has certainly fit Ruka's shyness.
The issue here is, I believe, you've seen too many of Yū's crazy characters that whenever you hear her, you're probably already expecting something odd.
