I would say, no order:

Narutaru: It begins in a very happy, and fun style, but goes on to become a very dark a depressing, but awesome anime.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: A ver depressing love story, set in modern day Japan.

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu: The funniest thing ever created... Set in a Japanese school, funny slapstick humour.

Jin Roh~the wolf brigade: Awesome, sad love story set in a Japan of an alternate history.

Nausicaa, of the valley of the wind: A impressive Studio Ghibli product set thousands of years into the future, our future? who knows...

Anime that almost made it on my list include: Kita-he ~diamond dust drops, hoshi no koe, Now and then here and there (Havent finished watching this yet, so my list might change later), Dogtato-kun (Soo fun, about a dogpatato... for 3 year olds, need I say more?), loads more..)

One piece - i mean c'mon
DBZ- obviously no need to explain
Full metal alchemist - very well thought out and the characters are brewed to a perfection. haha
berserk - you'll just see how screwed up guts' life is then think hey its not so bad the way i'm going.
and last but not least i would have to go with D.Grayman- even though the anime is still young it has so much potential so it'll be fun to read.

1) Fate Stay Night (Overall a great anime but what makes it epic is the ending....)
2) Full Metal Panic (Best combination of comedy and action of all times)
3) Honey & Clover (other than being one of the best slice of life animes... there are lots of lessons about life and the problem we encounter at an important crossroad everyone faces in his/her teens)
4) Saikano (maybe this was the cause of the end of the world?)
5) DBZ (there is no way the foundation of what we now know as anime should be lost)

But if i could only save 2 of them i would definitly choose Full Metal Panic and Honey & Clover. Although Saikano isnt one of my top favorite animes, if we are talking about the end of the world.. of anime... i think we cannot leave it out xD

Aishiteruze Baby - For the touching, dramaish anime.
Azumanga Daioh - For the comedy and slice of life anime.
Ef~ a tale of memories - For the romance anime.
Ranma 1/2 - For the martial arts, fighting, gender bender, harem, lengthy series anime.
Monster - For the mystery, psychological, thrillerish anime. (I haven't finished watching this yet because I don't like this kind of anime, but I guess it is still needed.)
