And now, ladies and gentlemen, the continuation to "It Only Hurts"! From Vivio's POV, perhaps a little more light-hearted and not as mind-screwy as Lutecia's section, but my brain is fried from three days of trying to finish pre-cal homework, so forgive me.

Corona and Lio, because the majority vote was in their favor.

“So, Vivio, you and Ein dating now?”

Caught mid-sip, Vivio’s eyes widened and she coughed, choking on her vanilla Pepsi. Shooting a glare at Lio, Corona whapped the blonde hard on the back to help her clear her lungs. Coughing again, Vivio grimaced and lowered her can. “What?”

“Didn’t you and Ein go on your third date last night?” Lio asked. For some reason Vivio could never understand, the girl was rather… interested in her recently blooming relationship with Einheart.

Is it even a relationship? I mean, we’ve gone out a couple times, but it’s not like we’ve said we’re girlfriends…

To gather her thoughts and buy some time, Vivio took a sip of her drink before she responded. “I don’t know,” she answered honestly. “We haven’t really talked about it.”

Lio stared while Corona nodded in understanding. “How have you two not talked about it?!” the girl yelped. “You two are going out! Don’t you have plans to meet each other?”

“Day after tomorrow,” Vivio said absently. “Ein wanted to go out tonight, but I cancelled because Cia’s helping me with my history homework.”

At that, Corona and Lio both stared at her. “Cia?” Corona said slowly. “As in Lutecia?”

“Yes, what about it?”

The two girls exchanged a long look; finally, Corona cleared her throat. “But… isn’t that awkward?” she asked softly. “I thought you were in love with her, Vivio.”

Vivio stiffened, going deathly still; for a moment, her fingers tightened painfully around her can. “Cia doesn’t see me that way.” She smiled sadly. “We talked about it before I went out with Ein again. She’s supportive of what’s going on.”

Lio and Corona exchanged another look. “But…” Lio’s voice was soft. “Vi, don’t you still love her?”

Vivio sighed, then finished her can and crushed it. “I’m working on trying to fall out of love with her.” She tossed it into a nearby trash bin. “It helps to know she isn’t interested, and she’s the one who offered to come over and help out tonight.”

Corona’s eyes softened. “Vivio…”

“I have to go, or I’ll be late. Nanoha-mama’s working late with Fate-mama tonight, so I need to go let Cia in.” Vivio stood, grabbing her book bag. “I’ll talk to you two later, okay?”

Dumbly, Corona and Lio both nodded, watching their friend go until she was out of sight. Once the coast was clear, Corona scowled and whapped Lio over the back of the head.

“Ow!”

“You just had to ask, didn’t you?”

“Oh come on, it wasn’t like you didn’t want to—“

SMACK.

“OW!”

Again, companion to "It Only Hurts", so obviously AU from my series. Also, somehow turned out longer than Lutecia's section.

@Satashi: I </3 you for not letting me read AltS till the book is finished. Also the A/N on the VF story was pretty cool. Lots of us were on there-neato. "who helps me in ways that I can't even begin to express my gratitude" I am sure that is a complete falsehood...unless you count me picking on you a lot "help" but sure I'll take that

@Alavon: Nice fluffy story lolz. Poor Vivio must be thinking "I wish I couldn't hear them-I wish i couldnt hear them..."

@DC: Way to carry out the challenge! Wohoo! Very nice. Going to continue? I am sure that was all set up by our Harem mistress in order to set up the angst. It almost doesn't matter which view you go next on. Its still going to have angst (or else the harem mistress might scold you XD). But yeah i agree...why not from Vice just this once? Unless you want to finish the Subaru Arc first then start the Vice Arc. *looks around* if nothing else you can do a "what if" scenario and *shot*

@Kaijo: well if Fate has the child she might be more inclined to reach the typical "Nanoha over-protectiveness" Either that or she might just want the child to be raised "opposite of how I was raised". Who knows. As for those magical scanners...our technology has a long way to go XD.

@RB: I hope you are enjoying all this chaos you have created you evil evil--*zapped* ok ok. Sounds like trouble for Vivio...shes in a newly found relationship but is still "unsure" hoo boy. I sense a little "battle to the death" for Vivio coming up soon if things keep going like this (but then again that's what you want isn't it?! ISNT IT?! XD)

For the rest of the posts, everything I wanted to say up to this point was covered by someone else. I'll find my way to jump in sooner next time...or hit the submit button faster XD

P.S. The Nanoha movie was nice...*dodges all the shots* I'll see which team is subbing it and try to grab a hold of it for you guys asap, but it might be slow seeing as my omiai is only several days away (someone shoot me )

Well, it's been awhile since I wrote something for Life Goes On, much to Alavon's chagrin. The chapter I had started got derailed when Lutecia's new personality was releaved in Vivid, forcing me to wait until we get to see how much she's changed. I'm still waiting, which is why I haven't worked on it.

However, in light of a comment I made to her that I still feel guilty about and more recent events, I feel I owe it to Alavon to write something. Luckily some ideas had come to me, and here's one of them:

Spoiler for Lost and Found:

“These might look good on him…” Fate muttered as she examined the frames in her hands.

“Then why don’t you get them?” Alicia asked her mother.

“Well…” Fate smiled sheepishly. “His current pair of glasses has gotten old, so I want to get him new ones for his birthday and I want to make sure they’re just right…”

“Dad will be happy with whatever you pick, mom.” Alicia rolled her eyes. “Besides, we’ve been standing here for an hour already.”

“Has it been that long?” Fate checked her watch. “Oh… well… what do you think, Nanoha?” Fate turned to where her other daughter was, or rather, where she was supposed to be. “Nanoha?”

“Huh? She was just here a minute ago…” Alicia glanced around quickly. “And I told her not to wander off!”

“Nanoha!” Fate called, placing the frames back on the shelf. She tried again when there was no reply, only to get the same result. “Oh no!” She groaned, concern bubbling in her gut. “Come on Alicia, we have to go find her!”

“Oooooh!” Nanoha gasped in awe as she stared at the shiny jewellery in the glass case. “So pretty! Hey mom, Alicia, look at…” When the little girl turned around, all she saw was a forest of people. “Huh? Where did they go?” Nanoha didn’t think she had wondered that far off. The store where her mother was picking out her father’s present shouldn’t have been that far away.

“Mom! Alicia!” Nanoha called, but her voice was drowned out by the clatter from the other mall patrons. The moving wall of grown ups towered over her, blocking her view of the distance and pinning her against the wall of the jeweller’s. Nanoha leaned up against the wall, gaze darting back and forth looking for a means to escape that would reunite her with her family. She began to tremble and her eyes watered when she didn’t find one.

“What do I do?” She whispered. “What if I can’t find them and I get stuck here forever? What if they leave without me and I never get to see them again?” The girl shook her head and wiped her eyes. “I’m a big girl! I won’t cry!”

She tried to force her way into the stream of people with the intent of going back the way she came, but in their hurry to get wherever they were going, no one made way for the girl.

“Mommy! Alicia!” She tried calling again, but her cries still fell on deaf ears. “Some one please find me!”

“Are you lost, little girl?” A gentle voice came from behind. Nanoha spun around to see a woman crouching down to the girl’s level. The first thing she noticed was the woman’s kind smile.

“… Not really…” Nanoha stepped back, a bit apprehensive to speak to this stranger. Her mom had warned her about talking to people she didn’t know.

“Where’s your mama and papa?” The woman asked.

“Dad’s at work, and mom brought us here to shop.” Nanoha explained, finding herself becoming increasingly more comfortable in this woman’s presence. Why this was so, she had no idea. “She was picking out a present for him but I saw something interesting over here so I came to check it out. I didn’t think I went that far but now I don’t see her anywhere!” Nanoha wiped at the tears that threatened to fall again.

“Oh dear, you must be so scared, getting lost in a big mall like this.”

“I’m not scared!” Nanoha insisted. “I’m named after a great person, you know! She wouldn’t get scared and I won’t either!”

“I see, and what is your name?”

“I’m Nanoha Testarossa-Harlaown-Scrya!”

“… That’s quite the long name.” The woman chuckled. “Well then, Nanoha-chan, I’ll help you find your mama.”

“I’ll… I’ll be fine on my own.” Nanoha insisted. “Like I said, I carry the name of a great person! I bet she wouldn’t need help either!”

“Is that so?” The woman’s smile remained. “I don’t think that’s true.”

“W-What do you mean?”

“I bet this great person had times when she would get scared, just like you.” The woman patted the girl’s head. “I bet she had times when she cried, and times when she needed to rely on the help of others. I don’t think that made her a weak person, do you?”

“N-No…”

“I bet your mama has times when she’s sad and needs help, right?”

“Yeah,” Nanoha nodded. “Sometimes her work goes bad and she’ll cry. Then dad and the rest of us will give her a big hug!”

“See? So don’t worry, it’s ok to be scared at a time like this, but if some one is there to help you, it becomes less scary, right?”

“I guess.” Nanoha agreed. The woman gave her an expectant look thereafter. “Um… miss?”

“Yes?”

“Could… Could you help me find my mom?”

“Of course.” The woman stood and offered her hand. “Let’s go then.”

Nanoha took the lady’s hand, and was lead through the crowd of people. Minutes later, she could hear a familiar voice calling her name.

“Nanoha! Where are you?!”

Nanoha brightened as she saw two sets of blond hair swishing back and forth frantically.

“Mom! Alicia!” She called out to them, and this time she was heard.

“Nanoha!” Fate cried as she spotted her daughter. She quickly ran to her, fell to her knees and pulled the brown haired child into a hug. “Thank goodness you’re all right!”

“You had us worried, you idiot!” Alicia scolded, lightly hitting her sister on the top of her head.

“I-I’m sorry.” Nanoha whispered, noticing the tears welling up in the others’ eyes. “I didn’t mean…”

“It’s ok.” Fate said, stroking her daughter’s hair. “All that matters is we’re together again.”

“I… I was really scared.” Nanoha admitted. “But this nice lady helped me!” Nanoha looked over her shoulder to the woman behind her, but there was no one there.

“What lady?” Alicia asked after rubbing her eyes.

“Huh? Where did she go?” Nanoha looked around. “I didn’t get to thank her…”

“Well, I’m grateful, whoever she is.” Fate smiled. “Now let’s go back and get your father a present.”

“Ok!” Nanoha replied, firmly gripping her mother’s hand. As they walked off, Nanoha couldn’t help but wonder about the woman with pretty blue eyes and long brown hair…

“I’m Nanoha Testarossa-Harlaown-Scrya!”

“… That’s quite the long name.” The woman chuckled. “Well then, Nanoha-chan, I’ll help you find your mama.”

“I’ll… I’ll be fine on my own.” Nanoha insisted. “Like I said, I carry the name of a great person! I bet she wouldn’t need help either!”

“Is that so?” The woman’s smile remained. “I don’t think that’s true.”

“W-What do you mean?”

“I bet this great person had times when she would get scared, just like you.” The woman patted the girl’s head. “I bet she had times when she cried, and times when she needed to rely on the help of others. I don’t think that made her a weak person, do you?”

“N-No…”

“I bet your mama has times when she’s sad and needs help, right?”

“Yeah,” Nanoha nodded. “Sometimes her work goes bad and she’ll cry. Then dad and the rest of us will give her a big hug!”

“See? So don’t worry, it’s ok to be scared at a time like this, but if some one is there to help you, it becomes less scary, right?”

“I guess.” Nanoha agreed. The woman gave her an expectant look thereafter. “Um… miss?”

“Yes?”

“Could… Could you help me find my mom?”

“Of course.” The woman stood and offered her hand. “Let’s go then.”

Nanoha took the lady’s hand, and was lead through the crowd of people. Minutes later, she could hear a familiar voice calling her name.

“Nanoha! Where are you?!”

Nanoha brightened as she saw two sets of blond hair swishing back and forth frantically.

“Mom! Alicia!” She called out to them, and this time she was heard.

“Nanoha!” Fate cried as she spotted her daughter. She quickly ran to her, fell to her knees and pulled the brown haired child into a hug. “Thank goodness you’re all right!”

“You had us worried, you idiot!” Alicia scolded, lightly hitting her sister on the top of her head.

“I-I’m sorry.” Nanoha whispered, noticing the tears welling up in the others’ eyes. “I didn’t mean…”

“It’s ok.” Fate said, stroking her daughter’s hair. “All that matters is we’re together again.”

“I… I was really scared.” Nanoha admitted. “But this nice lady helped me!” Nanoha looked over her shoulder to the woman behind her, but there was no one there.

“What lady?” Alicia asked after rubbing her eyes.

“Huh? Where did she go?” Nanoha looked around. “I didn’t get to thank her…”

“Well, I’m grateful, whoever she is.” Fate smiled. “Now let’s go back and get your father a present.”

“Ok!” Nanoha replied, firmly gripping her mother’s hand. As they walked off, Nanoha couldn’t help but wonder about the woman with pretty blue eyes and long brown hair…

A few notes on this Log: It's a little bit shorter than usual, and the reason for the time skip is because we had an idea for a particular milestone in Nanoha and Fate's lives that we couldn't resist writing .

Fate woke to the sound of someone pounding on her front door. She looked around in confusion—no light came in through her shuttered windows, the sun hadn’t risen yet. Her neighbours all knew that she was a cop and wouldn’t pound on her door—unless it was Friday night and they were complaining about the teen parties downstairs.

“Fate-chan!” Nanoha’s cheery voice called out. “Something happen? How come I’m awake before you?”

Blinking sluggishly for a few seconds, Fate bolted upright. “Shit!” She could hear Nanoha laughing, a glimmer of relief evident in her voice as Fate scrambled to open her door and let Nanoha in.

Nanoha grabbed Fate up in a tight hug. “Anything wrong, Fate-chan?” She pulled back to look at Fate in the face. “You didn’t have a wild party last night without me, did you?” She put a hand on Fate’s forehead. “Are you sick or something?”

“No.” Fate shook her head, rubbing her temple. “No, I…”

Nanoha looked at Fate patiently, but the blonde shook her head. "Sleeping deeply," she murmured. She glanced at the brunette, sighing as she rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand. "What's up? Isn't today our day off?"

"Well..." Nanoha sheepishly scratched her cheek. "It is, but Signum needs some help with the paperwork the Chief gave her, and she begged Mom to send in the cavalry. Then I thought, just me and Signum will be boring, so..."

“Why didn’t she ask her own cousin?” Fate shuffled to her room to put on her bra. It was just awkward talking to someone, even her best friend, bra-less.

“Hayate pulled a double-shift last night, it would just be cruel to ask her to do another.”

Entering her room and unbuttoning her shirt, Fate asked curiously, “Why the double?”

“Carim had family trouble, so she asked Hayate to take her shift instead. Oooh, black lace?”

“Nanoha!” Fate yelped, realizing that Nanoha had followed her into her room. She covered her chest, blushing. “You’re supposed to wait outside!”

"Oh please, Fate-chan, I saw you naked before you even had enough chest for black lace."

Fate's blush deepened, but with a sigh she turned around. "How long is it?"

"It's only from morning to afternoon, and it's going to be kind of quiet. Not many people, since it's the day patrol. It'll be fun, I promise."

Fate groaned and rolled her neck, trying to work the tension out of her muscles. “You owe me apple pie.”

“Afterwards, sure,” Nanoha grinned. “Too bad that you don’t have the car, I had to walk over here from my place, you know.”

“You run five kilometres every morning,” Fate said while focused on tying her shoes. “A little walk to the station should be nothing.”

Nanoha smirked. "I know."

"Then why are you complaining?"

With a shrug, Nanoha grabbed Fate's shirt collar and gave it a light tug. "Come on, come on. Signum's probably chomping at the bit wondering where the hell I am, and she lured me in with apple pie anyway."

Fate blinked, then realized. “She lured you with—Nanoha, you sneak!”

Her front door slammed shut and the sound of running feet answered her.

Panting, Fate stopped for breath outside the station doors, propping herself up by a bench. Man, Nanoha was fast…Fate had lost sight of her two blocks back. It was perhaps a bit careless of them, to be running full tilt through the city in uniform—those people awake at this early hour had reacted with surprise and fear, all of them looking around wildly for the “thief” the two cops were chasing…

This was the scene Signum walked out into when she stepped out of the building to get some fresh air: Fate, sagged against the bench right outside the station, panting for breath and looking ready to collapse. A slim brow arched. "Chasing someone, Testarossa?"

Fate gave her a nasty look. "Where's Nanoha?"

"Already inside and, amazingly, working without complaint." Taking pity on the blonde, Signum chuckled. "Come on, catch your breath and get inside. I saved you a piece of the pie."

Fate grumbled something inaudible and went in with Signum. The station was nearly empty, with most of the officers on patrol already. Seated at her desk, Nanoha was scrawling furiously through an evidence log, glancing up with a grin.

“You need to work out more, Fate-chan. That was kind of embarrassing! If I had known, I would have slowed down a little for you,” she teased.

Before Fate could respond with the first comment that came to her mind, Signum came to Nanoha's rescue and stuck a piece of apple pie under the blonde's nose. Burgundy eyes narrowed. "You're tempting me."

Signum smirked. "Is it working?"

Scowling, Fate grabbed the plate, muttering her thanks, and took a bite.

They settled into a routine, with Fate transcribing written forms to their computers, Nanoha sorting out the evidence room papers and Signum doing everything else. Occasionally some of their office staff would drop by for a chat, or officers passing through would give a hello.

“I’m surprised that it’s such a slow day,” Fate commented as she massaged her wrists while taking a break. “Hot days usually have a rise in crime.”

“Fate-chan,” Nanoha groaned. “You know that if crap happens now, it’ll all be your fault?”

“You’ve two witnesses,” Signum deadpanned without looking up from her work.

"But look, now she's going to jinx it..."

Fate groaned. "Honestly, Nanoha, the chances of that happening are—"

She was interrupted as a crash sounded from the front window, something landing to the ground with a thud and rolling a few feet.

It was almost a joke, how fast Fate was able to do her mental calculations. From the distance that the hand grenade must have had to travel from the exterior of the station, through the window and bouncing on the floor to its final resting spot, they had about two seconds left to get at least 15 feet away.

5 feet for killing range, 15 feet for casualty range. They were all sitting less than two feet apart from each other. The way the desks were arranged meant that there was no kicking it away, and they wouldn’t have enough time to pick it up and throw it.

All of this in less than a second through Fate’s head.

But Nanoha was even faster than her. Before Fate had even finished realizing that they were doomed, Nanoha had fallen—jumped—out of her chair, her body outstretched.

“NANOHA!” Fate screamed, and she didn’t get a chance to move forward as Signum tackled her and brought them both down on the ground, dragging Fate away from where Nanoha was sprawled over the cooking grenade.

Her partner’s slate-blue eyes lifted, staring desperately into Fate’s as all of them counted down the last second until time would return to its usual speed.

It was the longest second of Fate’s life.

The second passed...

Nothing happened.

For a moment, all three women blinked dumbly. But it was true; the grenade had never gone off. Stunned and a little shaken, Nanoha began to rise, moving slowly in case any small movement set off the grenade.

Nope, nothing. Frowning, Signum released Fate. "A dud?"

"They must have gotten it cheap," Nanoha joked weakly.

Fate was shaking as she raised a hand, her skin white. “Go,” she managed to say through her twitching, “bomb suit in the locker.”

Without a word, Nanoha obeyed, putting on the cumbersome bomb suit while Signum dragged Fate away out of range. They watched Nanoha carefully pick up the grenade and carry it to the impact area, where she would log it and have their bomb squad disarm it properly.

Fate put her head between her knees, breathing deeply and shivering.

“It’s okay, Testarossa,” Signum patted her back awkwardly. “We were lucky.”

Fate only shook her head once savagely.

"I'll go report it to the Chief." Signum gave her shoulder a brief, tight squeeze before her hand fell away. "You and Takamachi are both rattled up, so go home. I can finish the rest on my own, there isn't much left."

Not trusting herself to speak, Fate nodded.

Nanoha took her time getting the bomb suit off, dreading the moment they walk out together. She didn’t think that Fate could control herself enough to drive them very far, so they were probably going to go to Nanoha’s apartment.

She knew that once they got there, Fate was going to kill her, yup. And there was no way Nanoha could calm her down, because Nanoha knew that she would do it again in a heartbeat. That would not fly well.

She banged her head against the locker door, hollow metallic echoes ringing in the cubicle. Damn, Nanoha, why do you keep getting yourself into these things?

Trembling, Nanoha sighed and went outside, where Signum was talking to Grahem. The older man gestured out the door, indicating Fate was already outside. As the brunette passed by, Signum paused in her report to mouth, "Can I have your grenade launcher?"

The drive to Nanoha's apartment was short, but the stifling silence made it feel like an eternity. Likewise, the walk to the door itself was silent; Fate never said a word, simply brushed past Nanoha once the door was open. With a sigh, Nanoha slid her key into her pocket and closed the door.

She unlaced her shoes roughly and kicked them off, leaving them lying messily on the tile. Walking into her kitchen, Nanoha winced when she saw Fate in her liquor cabinet, emerging with a bottle of vodka that she poured into a glass and began swirling, glaring down into the whirlpooling alcohol as if searching for peace.

Nanoha fidgeted by her counter, then she suddenly got fed up.

“Look, I’m not going to apologize for it. I didn’t do anything wrong—and I’m sick of you always doing the ‘silently mad’ routine with me,” Nanoha snapped, and she threw her keys and wallet onto the countertop in frustration. “Let me know when you’re done sulking so we can have an adult conversation!”

Granted, going to her bedroom to sulk by herself probably wasn't the most mature thing in the world, and neither was stalking away before Fate could even respond to what she'd said, but Nanoha didn't care. She didn't slam the door behind her, but she knew that Fate would respect it.

Usually.

Even so, Nanoha had half-expected the bang of her door flying open as Fate stormed into the room, coming right up into Nanoha’s face, her red eyes blazing.

She told herself she wouldn't be startled or scared by the blaze in Fate's eyes... or even remotely attracted to it. Taking a deep breath, she stepped back slightly, and grimaced as she bumped against her bed. "Are you ready to actually talk now?" she asked.

It was the wrong question to ask, given Fate's state of mind.

Wrong answer.

Fate's eyes flashed, and for a dangerous moment Nanoha thought the blonde would actually hit her. She didn't seem to be drunk, Nanoha couldn't smell anything on her breath, which meant that she was just extremely angry—

And suddenly kissing Nanoha, hard and hot and in such a way that the brunette was amazed she didn't just burst into flames right then and there, the blonde's fingers digging almost painfully into her shoulders.

Nothing mattered anymore—there was no yesterday, no tomorrow, only this moment as Nanoha kissed Fate back furiously, her tongue in the blonde’s mouth. If she wasn’t feeling so hot she’d be crying.

Fate’s hands were on her shirt; Nanoha was working furiously at Fate’s belt, the two of them crashing onto the floor by Nanoha’s bed. Hazily, Nanoha made an attempt to rise and pull them onto the bed, but Fate held her down, moving from Nanoha’s lips to her neck and wiping all of Nanoha’s voluntary muscles of their strength.

All Nanoha cared about was the sensation of Fate’s skin on her hands, and she tore the bottom three buttons from Fate’s shirt as she yanked the hem from Fate’s pants, running her palms across Fate’s stomach in a caress.

"Fate-chan..."

Unfortunately, for Nanoha to be coherent enough to speak, despite her best attempts she was also semi coherent enough to realize what they were about to do. Despite it, though, she had no wish to push Fate away, but still...

The blonde's lips moved lower, teeth and tongue teasing her shoulders as her hands slipped under her partner's shirt, sliding it up. If Nanoha wanted to say something, now was her chance.

"Fa—"

"Don't."

That was the last word spoken between them that night.

Near midnight, Nanoha woke briefly to the sound of Fate sobbing beside her, the blanket that they had pulled down from Nanoha’s bed quivering as the blonde’s shoulders shook. Nanoha kept her own breathing gently rhythmic, her body language signalling sleep in all but her open eyes, turned away from Fate.

She ached to reach over and comfort the other girl, but she couldn’t.

They both knew the unspoken rules of their profession.

The soft scent of bacon frying stirred Nanoha sleepily from her cacoon of blankets several hours later. Barely awake after dropping into a deep sleep after midnight, the brunette fumbled around, grabbed some loose night clothes, and dressed before wandering into the kitchen, following her nose.

Fate had just finished, setting the plates on the table before going to the cabinets, moving briskly; Nanoha felt a twinge when she saw that Fate was dressed impeccably in her uniform, every seam in place except for her missing three buttons.

But she stayed.

For a long moment, Nanoha just watched Fate. When the blonde's back was turned, she timidly came into the kitchen, slipped up behind her, and hugged her tightly from behind, resting her cheek against the other woman's back. "Sorry," she whispered, giving her a gentle squeeze.

Fate didn't reply, but her hands came up and covered Nanoha's.

They stayed that way for a long time.

“Dad will be happy with whatever you pick, mom.” Alicia rolled her eyes. “Besides, we’ve been standing here for an hour already.”

“Has it been that long?” Fate checked her watch. “Oh… well… what do you think, Nanoha?” Fate turned to where her other daughter was, or rather, where she was supposed to be. “Nanoha?”

“Huh? She was just here a minute ago…” Alicia glanced around quickly. “And I told her not to wander off!”

“Nanoha!” Fate called, placing the frames back on the shelf. She tried again when there was no reply, only to get the same result. “Oh no!” She groaned, concern bubbling in her gut. “Come on Alicia, we have to go find her!”

“Oooooh!” Nanoha gasped in awe as she stared at the shiny jewellery in the glass case. “So pretty! Hey mom, Alicia, look at…” When the little girl turned around, all she saw was a forest of people. “Huh? Where did they go?” Nanoha didn’t think she had wondered that far off. The store where her mother was picking out her father’s present shouldn’t have been that far away.

“Mom! Alicia!” Nanoha called, but her voice was drowned out by the clatter from the other mall patrons. The moving wall of grown ups towered over her, blocking her view of the distance and pinning her against the wall of the jeweller’s. Nanoha leaned up against the wall, gaze darting back and forth looking for a means to escape that would reunite her with her family. She began to tremble and her eyes watered when she didn’t find one.

“What do I do?” She whispered. “What if I can’t find them and I get stuck here forever? What if they leave without me and I never get to see them again?” The girl shook her head and wiped her eyes. “I’m a big girl! I won’t cry!”

She tried to force her way into the stream of people with the intent of going back the way she came, but in their hurry to get wherever they were going, no one made way for the girl.

“Mommy! Alicia!” She tried calling again, but her cries still fell on deaf ears. “Some one please find me!”

“Are you lost, little girl?” A gentle voice came from behind. Nanoha spun around to see a woman crouching down to the girl’s level. The first thing she noticed was the woman’s kind smile.

“… Not really…” Nanoha stepped back, a bit apprehensive to speak to this stranger. Her mom had warned her about talking to people she didn’t know.

“Where’s your mama and papa?” The woman asked.

“Dad’s at work, and mom brought us here to shop.” Nanoha explained, finding herself becoming increasingly more comfortable in this woman’s presence. Why this was so, she had no idea. “She was picking out a present for him but I saw something interesting over here so I came to check it out. I didn’t think I went that far but now I don’t see her anywhere!” Nanoha wiped at the tears that threatened to fall again.

“Oh dear, you must be so scared, getting lost in a big mall like this.”

“I’m not scared!” Nanoha insisted. “I’m named after a great person, you know! She wouldn’t get scared and I won’t either!”

“I see, and what is your name?”

“I’m Nanoha Testarossa-Harlaown-Scrya!”

Nanoha leaned up against the wall, gaze darting back and forth looking for a means to escape that would reunite her with her family. She began to tremble and her eyes watered when she didn’t find one.

“What do I do?” She whispered. “What if I can’t find them and I get stuck here forever? What if they leave without me and I never get to see them again?” The girl shook her head and wiped her eyes. “I’m a big girl! I won’t cry!”

She tried to force her way into the stream of people with the intent of going back the way she came, but in their hurry to get wherever they were going, no one made way for the girl.

“Mommy! Alicia!” She tried calling again, but her cries still fell on deaf ears. “Some one please find me!”

“Are you lost, little girl?” A gentle voice came from behind. Nanoha spun around to see a woman crouching down to the girl’s level. The first thing she noticed was the woman’s kind smile.

“… Not really…” Nanoha stepped back, a bit apprehensive to speak to this stranger. Her mom had warned her about talking to people she didn’t know.

“Where’s your mama and papa?” The woman asked.

“Dad’s at work, and mom brought us here to shop.” Nanoha explained, finding herself becoming increasingly more comfortable in this woman’s presence. Why this was so, she had no idea. “She was picking out a present for him but I saw something interesting over here so I came to check it out. I didn’t think I went that far but now I don’t see her anywhere!” Nanoha wiped at the tears that threatened to fall again.

“Oh dear, you must be so scared, getting lost in a big mall like this.”

“I’m not scared!” Nanoha insisted. “I’m named after a great person, you know! She wouldn’t get scared and I won’t either!”

“I see, and what is your name?”

“I’m Nanoha Testarossa-Harlaown-Scrya!”

“… That’s quite the long name.” The woman chuckled. “Well then, Nanoha-chan, I’ll help you find your mama.”

“I’ll… I’ll be fine on my own.” Nanoha insisted. “Like I said, I carry the name of a great person! I bet she wouldn’t need help either!”

“Is that so?” The woman’s smile remained. “I don’t think that’s true.”

“W-What do you mean?”

“I bet this great person had times when she would get scared, just like you.” The woman patted the girl’s head. “I bet she had times when she cried, and times when she needed to rely on the help of others. I don’t think that made her a weak person, do you?”

“N-No…”

“I bet your mama has times when she’s sad and needs help, right?”

“Yeah,” Nanoha nodded. “Sometimes her work goes bad and she’ll cry. Then dad and the rest of us will give her a big hug!”

“See? So don’t worry, it’s ok to be scared at a time like this, but if some one is there to help you, it becomes less scary, right?”

“I guess.” Nanoha agreed. The woman gave her an expectant look thereafter. “Um… miss?”

“Yes?”

“Could… Could you help me find my mom?”

“Of course.” The woman stood and offered her hand. “Let’s go then.”

Nanoha took the lady’s hand, and was lead through the crowd of people. Minutes later, she could hear a familiar voice calling her name.

“Nanoha! Where are you?!”

Nanoha brightened as she saw two sets of blond hair swishing back and forth frantically.

“Mom! Alicia!” She called out to them, and this time she was heard.

“Nanoha!” Fate cried as she spotted her daughter. She quickly ran to her, fell to her knees and pulled the brown haired child into a hug. “Thank goodness you’re all right!”

“You had us worried, you idiot!” Alicia scolded, lightly hitting her sister on the top of her head.

“I-I’m sorry.” Nanoha whispered, noticing the tears welling up in the others’ eyes. “I didn’t mean…”

“It’s ok.” Fate said, stroking her daughter’s hair. “All that matters is we’re together again.”

“I… I was really scared.” Nanoha admitted. “But this nice lady helped me!” Nanoha looked over her shoulder to the woman behind her, but there was no one there.

“What lady?” Alicia asked after rubbing her eyes.

“Huh? Where did she go?” Nanoha looked around. “I didn’t get to thank her…”

“Well, I’m grateful, whoever she is.” Fate smiled. “Now let’s go back and get your father a present.”

“Ok!” Nanoha replied, firmly gripping her mother’s hand. As they walked off, Nanoha couldn’t help but wonder about the woman with pretty blue eyes and long brown hair…

I don't know why, but reading this one made me feel happy, yet really really sad (in a good way, course, but don't ask me why). Must be the hour

A few notes on this Log: It's a little bit shorter than usual, and the reason for the time skip is because we had an idea for a particular milestone in Nanoha and Fate's lives that we couldn't resist writing .

Fate woke to the sound of someone pounding on her front door. She looked around in confusion—no light came in through her shuttered windows, the sun hadn’t risen yet. Her neighbours all knew that she was a cop and wouldn’t pound on her door—unless it was Friday night and they were complaining about the teen parties downstairs.

“Fate-chan!” Nanoha’s cheery voice called out. “Something happen? How come I’m awake before you?”

Blinking sluggishly for a few seconds, Fate bolted upright. “Shit!” She could hear Nanoha laughing, a glimmer of relief evident in her voice as Fate scrambled to open her door and let Nanoha in.

Nanoha grabbed Fate up in a tight hug. “Anything wrong, Fate-chan?” She pulled back to look at Fate in the face. “You didn’t have a wild party last night without me, did you?” She put a hand on Fate’s forehead. “Are you sick or something?”

“No.” Fate shook her head, rubbing her temple. “No, I…”

Nanoha looked at Fate patiently, but the blonde shook her head. "Sleeping deeply," she murmured. She glanced at the brunette, sighing as she rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand. "What's up? Isn't today our day off?"

"Well..." Nanoha sheepishly scratched her cheek. "It is, but Signum needs some help with the paperwork the Chief gave her, and she begged Mom to send in the cavalry. Then I thought, just me and Signum will be boring, so..."

“Why didn’t she ask her own cousin?” Fate shuffled to her room to put on her bra. It was just awkward talking to someone, even her best friend, bra-less.

“Hayate pulled a double-shift last night, it would just be cruel to ask her to do another.”

Entering her room and unbuttoning her shirt, Fate asked curiously, “Why the double?”

“Carim had family trouble, so she asked Hayate to take her shift instead. Oooh, black lace?”

“Nanoha!” Fate yelped, realizing that Nanoha had followed her into her room. She covered her chest, blushing. “You’re supposed to wait outside!”

"Oh please, Fate-chan, I saw you naked before you even had enough chest for black lace."

Fate's blush deepened, but with a sigh she turned around. "How long is it?"

"It's only from morning to afternoon, and it's going to be kind of quiet. Not many people, since it's the day patrol. It'll be fun, I promise."

Fate groaned and rolled her neck, trying to work the tension out of her muscles. “You owe me apple pie.”

“Afterwards, sure,” Nanoha grinned. “Too bad that you don’t have the car, I had to walk over here from my place, you know.”

“You run five kilometres every morning,” Fate said while focused on tying her shoes. “A little walk to the station should be nothing.”

Nanoha smirked. "I know."

"Then why are you complaining?"

With a shrug, Nanoha grabbed Fate's shirt collar and gave it a light tug. "Come on, come on. Signum's probably chomping at the bit wondering where the hell I am, and she lured me in with apple pie anyway."

Fate blinked, then realized. “She lured you with—Nanoha, you sneak!”

Her front door slammed shut and the sound of running feet answered her.

Panting, Fate stopped for breath outside the station doors, propping herself up by a bench. Man, Nanoha was fast…Fate had lost sight of her two blocks back. It was perhaps a bit careless of them, to be running full tilt through the city in uniform—those people awake at this early hour had reacted with surprise and fear, all of them looking around wildly for the “thief” the two cops were chasing…

This was the scene Signum walked out into when she stepped out of the building to get some fresh air: Fate, sagged against the bench right outside the station, panting for breath and looking ready to collapse. A slim brow arched. "Chasing someone, Testarossa?"

Fate gave her a nasty look. "Where's Nanoha?"

"Already inside and, amazingly, working without complaint." Taking pity on the blonde, Signum chuckled. "Come on, catch your breath and get inside. I saved you a piece of the pie."

Fate grumbled something inaudible and went in with Signum. The station was nearly empty, with most of the officers on patrol already. Seated at her desk, Nanoha was scrawling furiously through an evidence log, glancing up with a grin.

“You need to work out more, Fate-chan. That was kind of embarrassing! If I had known, I would have slowed down a little for you,” she teased.

Before Fate could respond with the first comment that came to her mind, Signum came to Nanoha's rescue and stuck a piece of apple pie under the blonde's nose. Burgundy eyes narrowed. "You're tempting me."

Signum smirked. "Is it working?"

Scowling, Fate grabbed the plate, muttering her thanks, and took a bite.

They settled into a routine, with Fate transcribing written forms to their computers, Nanoha sorting out the evidence room papers and Signum doing everything else. Occasionally some of their office staff would drop by for a chat, or officers passing through would give a hello.

“I’m surprised that it’s such a slow day,” Fate commented as she massaged her wrists while taking a break. “Hot days usually have a rise in crime.”

“Fate-chan,” Nanoha groaned. “You know that if crap happens now, it’ll all be your fault?”

“You’ve two witnesses,” Signum deadpanned without looking up from her work.

"But look, now she's going to jinx it..."

Fate groaned. "Honestly, Nanoha, the chances of that happening are—"

She was interrupted as a crash sounded from the front window, something landing to the ground with a thud and rolling a few feet.

It was almost a joke, how fast Fate was able to do her mental calculations. From the distance that the hand grenade must have had to travel from the exterior of the station, through the window and bouncing on the floor to its final resting spot, they had about two seconds left to get at least 15 feet away.

5 feet for killing range, 15 feet for casualty range. They were all sitting less than two feet apart from each other. The way the desks were arranged meant that there was no kicking it away, and they wouldn’t have enough time to pick it up and throw it.

All of this in less than a second through Fate’s head.

But Nanoha was even faster than her. Before Fate had even finished realizing that they were doomed, Nanoha had fallen—jumped—out of her chair, her body outstretched.

“NANOHA!” Fate screamed, and she didn’t get a chance to move forward as Signum tackled her and brought them both down on the ground, dragging Fate away from where Nanoha was sprawled over the cooking grenade.

Her partner’s slate-blue eyes lifted, staring desperately into Fate’s as all of them counted down the last second until time would return to its usual speed.

It was the longest second of Fate’s life.

The second passed...

Nothing happened.

For a moment, all three women blinked dumbly. But it was true; the grenade had never gone off. Stunned and a little shaken, Nanoha began to rise, moving slowly in case any small movement set off the grenade.

Nope, nothing. Frowning, Signum released Fate. "A dud?"

"They must have gotten it cheap," Nanoha joked weakly.

Fate was shaking as she raised a hand, her skin white. “Go,” she managed to say through her twitching, “bomb suit in the locker.”

Without a word, Nanoha obeyed, putting on the cumbersome bomb suit while Signum dragged Fate away out of range. They watched Nanoha carefully pick up the grenade and carry it to the impact area, where she would log it and have their bomb squad disarm it properly.

Fate put her head between her knees, breathing deeply and shivering.

“It’s okay, Testarossa,” Signum patted her back awkwardly. “We were lucky.”

Fate only shook her head once savagely.

"I'll go report it to the Chief." Signum gave her shoulder a brief, tight squeeze before her hand fell away. "You and Takamachi are both rattled up, so go home. I can finish the rest on my own, there isn't much left."

Not trusting herself to speak, Fate nodded.

Nanoha took her time getting the bomb suit off, dreading the moment they walk out together. She didn’t think that Fate could control herself enough to drive them very far, so they were probably going to go to Nanoha’s apartment.

She knew that once they got there, Fate was going to kill her, yup. And there was no way Nanoha could calm her down, because Nanoha knew that she would do it again in a heartbeat. That would not fly well.

She banged her head against the locker door, hollow metallic echoes ringing in the cubicle. Damn, Nanoha, why do you keep getting yourself into these things?

Trembling, Nanoha sighed and went outside, where Signum was talking to Grahem. The older man gestured out the door, indicating Fate was already outside. As the brunette passed by, Signum paused in her report to mouth, "Can I have your grenade launcher?"

The drive to Nanoha's apartment was short, but the stifling silence made it feel like an eternity. Likewise, the walk to the door itself was silent; Fate never said a word, simply brushed past Nanoha once the door was open. With a sigh, Nanoha slid her key into her pocket and closed the door.

She unlaced her shoes roughly and kicked them off, leaving them lying messily on the tile. Walking into her kitchen, Nanoha winced when she saw Fate in her liquor cabinet, emerging with a bottle of vodka that she poured into a glass and began swirling, glaring down into the whirlpooling alcohol as if searching for peace.

Nanoha fidgeted by her counter, then she suddenly got fed up.

“Look, I’m not going to apologize for it. I didn’t do anything wrong—and I’m sick of you always doing the ‘silently mad’ routine with me,” Nanoha snapped, and she threw her keys and wallet onto the countertop in frustration. “Let me know when you’re done sulking so we can have an adult conversation!”

Granted, going to her bedroom to sulk by herself probably wasn't the most mature thing in the world, and neither was stalking away before Fate could even respond to what she'd said, but Nanoha didn't care. She didn't slam the door behind her, but she knew that Fate would respect it.

Usually.

Even so, Nanoha had half-expected the bang of her door flying open as Fate stormed into the room, coming right up into Nanoha’s face, her red eyes blazing.

She told herself she wouldn't be startled or scared by the blaze in Fate's eyes... or even remotely attracted to it. Taking a deep breath, she stepped back slightly, and grimaced as she bumped against her bed. "Are you ready to actually talk now?" she asked.

It was the wrong question to ask, given Fate's state of mind.

Wrong answer.

Fate's eyes flashed, and for a dangerous moment Nanoha thought the blonde would actually hit her. She didn't seem to be drunk, Nanoha couldn't smell anything on her breath, which meant that she was just extremely angry—

And suddenly kissing Nanoha, hard and hot and in such a way that the brunette was amazed she didn't just burst into flames right then and there, the blonde's fingers digging almost painfully into her shoulders.

Nothing mattered anymore—there was no yesterday, no tomorrow, only this moment as Nanoha kissed Fate back furiously, her tongue in the blonde’s mouth. If she wasn’t feeling so hot she’d be crying.

Fate’s hands were on her shirt; Nanoha was working furiously at Fate’s belt, the two of them crashing onto the floor by Nanoha’s bed. Hazily, Nanoha made an attempt to rise and pull them onto the bed, but Fate held her down, moving from Nanoha’s lips to her neck and wiping all of Nanoha’s voluntary muscles of their strength.

All Nanoha cared about was the sensation of Fate’s skin on her hands, and she tore the bottom three buttons from Fate’s shirt as she yanked the hem from Fate’s pants, running her palms across Fate’s stomach in a caress.

"Fate-chan..."

Unfortunately, for Nanoha to be coherent enough to speak, despite her best attempts she was also semi coherent enough to realize what they were about to do. Despite it, though, she had no wish to push Fate away, but still...

The blonde's lips moved lower, teeth and tongue teasing her shoulders as her hands slipped under her partner's shirt, sliding it up. If Nanoha wanted to say something, now was her chance.

"Fa—"

"Don't."

That was the last word spoken between them that night.

Near midnight, Nanoha woke briefly to the sound of Fate sobbing beside her, the blanket that they had pulled down from Nanoha’s bed quivering as the blonde’s shoulders shook. Nanoha kept her own breathing gently rhythmic, her body language signalling sleep in all but her open eyes, turned away from Fate.

She ached to reach over and comfort the other girl, but she couldn’t.

They both knew the unspoken rules of their profession.

The soft scent of bacon frying stirred Nanoha sleepily from her cacoon of blankets several hours later. Barely awake after dropping into a deep sleep after midnight, the brunette fumbled around, grabbed some loose night clothes, and dressed before wandering into the kitchen, following her nose.

Fate had just finished, setting the plates on the table before going to the cabinets, moving briskly; Nanoha felt a twinge when she saw that Fate was dressed impeccably in her uniform, every seam in place except for her missing three buttons.

But she stayed.

For a long moment, Nanoha just watched Fate. When the blonde's back was turned, she timidly came into the kitchen, slipped up behind her, and hugged her tightly from behind, resting her cheek against the other woman's back. "Sorry," she whispered, giving her a gentle squeeze.

Fate didn't reply, but her hands came up and covered Nanoha's.

They stayed that way for a long time.

You want to give Nanoha a competition quality IPSC race gun?

EDIT: An older STI International model, probably.

I suppose in it's lethal, the compensator helps reduce recoil, the reflex sight gives rapid target acquisition, the frame makes it lightweight, and the overall package is an extremely accurate pistol... but there's just too much for Nanoha to lug around as an active duty weapon. That thing is meant for sporting competitions. Plus, at over $2500 USD (up to $3500) per pistol, it's a bit expensive.

Though if Nanoha really has the money to burn, might I suggest the Springfield Professional? It is the choice pistol for the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, and it is far more appropriate than a race gun.

*twitches* So, ah, instead of homework I ended up with a fic. It has no title as I'm terrible at naming things and something tells me I'll be editing this quite a bit when I wake up properly. Um... right. Yeah, that's about it.

Fate stared down at her friend’s unconscious form on the hospital bed, trying to muster up disapproval for the reckless way Nanoha had thrown herself into physical therapy today. Just because Shamal had said that it was probably safe to start the part of the recuperation process that didn’t involve lying on a bed all day didn’t mean that it was safe for Nanoha to push herself to exhaustion.


Hadn’t they just learned how unsafe it was for her to do that?


But Fate still couldn’t feel too upset. Her friend was acting too desperately for her to feel anything but sadness about the situation. Nanoha might’ve been pushing herself, but it wasn’t with her usual enthusiasm—just a quiet, frantic determination that scared Fate more than she would have liked to admit.


The disturbing combination of emotion—or lack of emotion, as it sometimes seemed—had first appeared when it had been suggested that Nanoha might not be able to fly again. That was when Fate first noticed the dead look her best friend’s usually lively eyes took on. Knowing that she was severely injured and it would take time to heal had been bad enough, but the thought of not being able to fly… Without their close bond, it wouldn’t have been noticeable, but Fate had seen how the mere thought of not being able to take flight ever again nearly broke her.


And now that there was something Nanoha could do that could bring her closer to the skies, she wasn’t holding back at all.


It was a focus that Fate recognized from looking in the mirror when she was helping her mother gather the Lost Logias: the unshakable belief that no matter what happened, it would all be okay if this one thing could be accomplished.


If she could just find them, her mother would love her again.


If she just worked hard enough, she’d be able to fly again.


The doctors said that Nanoha was doing well with the physical therapy, but beyond that, they didn’t seem to want to commit to saying anything definite about her condition. Not one of them dared to hope that after the trauma she had been through, she could possibly come out whole. For people who had seen the extent of the damage and been able to make sense of what it meant for the patient, it was too much of a fairytale-miracle for them to put faith in.


But it seemed like everyone who actually knew Nanoha was trusting that a miracle like that would come through. They had to believe that Nanoha would make it through, because they couldn’t imagine otherwise.


It made Fate feel very alone, because all she could think while she watched Nanoha work with her doctors was, “What if this doesn’t work?” She realized she should probably thinking more about Nanoha’s feelings on the subject, since she was the one suffering the most, but she honestly didn’t know what she’d do if she had to accept that Nanoha was permanently grounded. Loss of flight was Nanoha’s breaking point, but losing Nanoha was unquestionably Fate’s.


“Fate?”


A warm hand rested itself on Fate’s shoulder, making the girl jump. She spun around, preparing herself to listen to a well-meaning doctor saying that Nanoha had indeed overdone it in physical therapy, setting back her treatment even more—


—Then she realized that it was only Yuuno, and she nearly gasped in relief. He smiled at her and took his spot in the other chair by Nanoha’s bed. “I didn’t realize you’d still be here; usually you’re gone as soon as she falls asleep.”


Fate didn’t bother trying to excuse that hopefully-ex habit. She really was trying to get over it, but seeing Nanoha injured so badly had done a number on her nerves. She hadn’t been able to act like a truly supportive friend for a while.
“Did the therapy go well?”


Fate nodded cautiously, though it turned into a shrug halfway through. “Her body held up, but she’s pushing herself too hard, and the doctor isn’t noticing. I think it might be doing more harm than good.”


Yuuno frowned in concern. “Maybe we could talk to him about toning it down?”
“Then she’d notice,” Fate responded immediately, having already thought about that herself, “and think that she wasn’t doing a good enough job, and push herself even harder.” Fate bit back a sigh and closed her eyes, blocking off the vision of a very worried Yuuno.


But then the warmth from his hand came back, and she felt enough strength to look him in the eye again. He looked just as scared and tired as she felt, but there was more determination in his eyes than she’d ever seen before.
“It’ll be okay, Fate.”


She’d heard people tell her that countless times since stepping through the hospital doors for the first time. She hadn’t been able to believe half of them. Even Hayate’s steadfast encouragement and faith hadn’t truly been able to convince her. It was too obvious that the possibility of things going wrong was being denied to the point of actually disappearing.


Yuuno was different, though. He was looking at the same miserable situation she was, and yet he still wasn’t backing down. That was what made her ask.


“But what if it isn’t?”


Part of her was sure he’d look hopelessly at the floor the same way Shamal did when Vita first interrogated her about the exact odds of Nanoha making a full recovery, only without the murmured excuse of doctor-patient confidentiality that didn’t last longer than twenty seconds.


However, more of her remembered that he wasn’t just Nanoha’s friend, he was hers too, and there was more to that than having a very good mutual friend. And that was the part that was rewarded.


“Then we’ll be there to help her through it.”

In case it wasn't painfully obvious, this is my first Nanoha fic. And I don't think I'm entirely comfortable with my knowledge of canon occurrences, or the characters' personalities. Also painfully obvious. So if I've done something unspeakably wrong to any of the characters or any canon details, please let me know. I can't promise I'll fix it, but I'll at least make some sort of attempt to repair the damage.

...Though considering that this probably isn't the most original idea in the world, it's wholly possible that the plot will stay mostly intact no matter what. That would be nice.

Oh, and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to tell me if Fate and Yuuno use honorifics with each other? I drew a blank while writing this, so I went without, and even though I don't plan on changing that part, I'd still like to be informed if at all possible.

Okay, right. Now about the content. Sort of. This was meant as a friendship piece, but originally I wanted more focus on the Yuuno/Fate part, so take from that what you will. If you want to consider it shippy, awesome, but I'm sorry to say that it won't be going anywhere for now.

Also, in the original brainstorming that lasted a few dozen seconds, I wanted to draw a few similarities between Nanoha and Fate. Namely, the sad yet beautiful eyes thing. I couldn't get it to work properly, so it stayed out. Maybe I'll bring it up in a loosely connected drabble later. I don't know. Mentioning that just seemed important somehow.

For the record, the ending is the ending mostly because without stopping it there, I would've rambled way too much, and it is my personal opinion that I should possibly get around to fixing it.
