average episode in my opinion. Things are getting repetitive and annoying. sure there are some good moments between Harima and Eri but you are not left with a real hope for a relationship to emerge. I'm beginning to get annoyed by Hanai because he's exact self since SR started. My guess for the end of 2nd season is it would end like 1st which no significant changes occured.

The ending to this episode really, really pissed me off. I hate how they go in depth into Harima x Eri relationship and then just toss it down the drain because moronic Tenma randomly has a spark of intellect in her pea-sized-brain and figures out it's Harima. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And then we have Hanai come in with his lameass misunderstanding. What the hell. I didn't laugh once in this episode. I didn't need to laugh in the beginning because they were FINALLY starting to show a relationship that may have a chance to go somewhere. But then they ruin everything by throwing Tenma in the mix. God I hate her so much.
*sighs* This series gets me so frustrated some times. I swear, if the next episode doesn't show effects from ep 17, I'm going to be furious. |

Haha I can see some of your frustration Xinil. Well SRs good fun no matter what. However fun alone with a story that goes nowhere is kinda pointless I guess. The story may well move along in the next ep. I wasn't expecting Eri to take so long to find out it was Harima, I thought it would be found out earlier in this ep. I'd be a lil pissed too if they didn't resolve ep 17, but I have a feeling they will. I think too much happened to simply sweep under the rug and move on to something else. One thing that confused me in this ep was the chronological sequence--was the part with Hanai at the end a short trip back in time to when they were still in the cabin I guess? I don't see why they didn't show that in normal sequence. Pulling a little Haruhi maybe

I know SR is simply not about the romance, but about the comedy. yet there were no laughs in this ep for me but that's not what bothered me. somehow I was expecting some more revelation in Harima's part. the writers did a good job by tickling me w/ those "she's a cute girl..." or "this is not like ojo..." It was getting there... 'it's like so near, but still far' concept. and like Xinil, the tenma-insertion didnt suit me well (but for the record, I'm a tenma fan). the hanai scene also left me frowning; and the reason to it is that I'm a big Hanai fan (esp from Season 1). I think he's character is being wasted. but that's just me. I guess because i'm such a Flag supporter that I wanted something to happen between Eri and Harima (an accidental kiss, or a hug or a touch or whatever) but those are wishful thinking; I should know better, eh long post but I needed to take out my frustration from ep17. the preview didnt get me excited but still looking forward to more rumble! |

im sooooo relieved im not the only one pissed off and frustrated with the once great School Rumble... I want to keep on loving this show, but come on... the writers cant keep expecting us to love it when they dont deliver the goods. So many comedies achieve character development.
look at GTO, a shit load of characters, yet every single one of them grows like hell, even the story evolves from comedy to romance to drama and then comedy again. Midori no Hibi arguably the greatest romantic comedy IMHO, though short, the least important character who was an otaku even received character development. Ouran High School Host club, the story gives us depth about their characters, we get a look inside their minds and their convictions, yet the show revolves around daily antics just like school rumble. Im at the point where i dont care anymore who gets with whom, but School Rumble cannot remain a GREAT anime if the characters and story stay stagnant. unless you watch it solely for the "antics of the day" and not the characters or story. This show makes promises that isnt being delivered, and i keep hearing wait for the next arc, wait for the next arc, wait for the next blah, blah, blah. The perfect analogy for this show is: MASTURBATION WITHOUT A PAY OFF. You get all excited and worked up but eventually nothing happens. I say the writers stop following the manga, create their own story development like full metal alchemist, because obviously the mangaka doesnt plan on ending anytime soon because of *cough*money*cough*. If you reply to this dont call me a troll or flame me... im just a fan who loves this show and feels that its losing the magic that once made it great because it has become formulaic and generic. |

Is it just me or Harima and Yakumo lost or loosing their powers?
Yakumo can look into the hearts of the one that likes her, but in the anime nor manga she has'nt used them yet. And Harima's charm with the animals fadding? Waah? Waht happened to the NOAH Harima that animals love? Napoleon got scared because Harima's gonna make pork meat out of him, Pytrori lifted Harima and does'nt remember him and Iori did not help Harima out of the ropes. Spoiler:

I love School Rumble I take it as what it is mostly a comedy with some romance in it. If your expecting heavy development of romance like a typical romance comedy then you'll only end up dissapointed and frustrated because that is not School Rumble is about folks. The main point of School Rumble is it's comedy and misunderstandings!!! Quote:

This was an ok episode. All the build up that the flaggers were saying about this being major flag did not really show me much in this episode. I was expecting some major development from what all the manga flag readers were saying, but this episode really just confused me. The humor was low, and Harima did not seem to progress towards Eri at all. He was still all Tenma.
And that flying kick to Harima in the end... That was really ungrateful of Eri for all that Harima did for her. It just felt out of place. Although, I have to admit, Eri finally came back into character after her talk with her mom. Before that, it was like some character was just put in to make the drama work. Quote:

Again, this episode disappointed me with all the build up that manga flaggers had for it. I was hoping to see something blockbuster, but it ended up as a bust in my book. Eri is my second most favorite character in School Rumble, but I am beginning to lose interest in her due to these last few episodes.

I'm with you on all counts thundrakkon, looks like we see eye to eye on SR right now. Good observation about Eri's turning point after the (ugly) mom convo. Couldn't they at least show where Eri gets her genes from? Eri's dropping and needs to get it together. Maybe drop kick was ok after all, better than all the introspection and sulking.
I'm sure the kick was just a reflex+comic device and will be addressed immediately. The preview didn't bring any of this up but I have to think it will be addressed in the next ep. All of the rest of the stuff in the preview paled in comparison to what was going down in the current arc

Wow some of you guys need to relax
The anime hasn't even caught up to the manga yet and we're already well into the second season (looking to be like 48 episodes + OVAS?) and to top it off the manga doesn't even seem close to being finished yet. This is not really a bad thing.. some stories just take a long time to develop - think Maison Ikkoku long and you'll have something to compare with To me that series was even more frustrating because while it spanned years in term of story time, it had a very plodding pace when distilled down to like 96 episodes or so. I still liked it alot anyway... My biggest wish for SR is that when we finally get an end in the manga it gets animated in a way that does it justice and not with the way that some other series were handled. I have high hopes for this because it seems that with the way season 2 here is catching up quickly to the current manga that KJ may already have plotted out the ending for the series, which is what would be needed in order for there not to be a 2 year minimum gap between season 2 and hopefully an eventual season 3. If not then I think we may just need to cross our fingers and hope for some OVA's to tie up the animated series sometime in the future... Anyway, just enjoy the ride a little more Everyone should know for a fact that nothing is going to get resolved this season one way or the other, so look at the anime as just having the opportunity to spend some time with your favorite characters and see them grow (even a little bit).... and yeah despite some of the snarky comments there really has been some good character development this season. |

uruchai: I totally agree with you about the whole "Harima revelation" thing. Eri was a COMPLETELY different person to Harima (especially in the temple). Harima barely got anything out of it though. You'd think he would have learned a little something about her, but no, we can't have that because Harima is a hopeless retard that only goes for the idiot girl that probably can't found to 10.
I forgot to mention, but I found it really out of character for Harima to draw the moustache on Eri during that scene. Sure, she was making fun of him in her sleep, but I think he'd be more embarrassed than angry with her. People sleep-talking are usually thinking about someone important to them. Another misunderstanding once again, and an extremely unlikely one at that. likely: I can't believe they haven't progressed the story because they're worried about it not being interesting. There are so many things they could do to make it interesting. Hell, have Harima go out with one of them on an "accidental" date, and then make it fall apart. I don't care what happens. I just know that something NEEDS to, or else this series is pointless comedy. Sonic: I'm not looking for a resolution. I'm not looking for a relationship either. I'm looking for development. I'm looking for a person who learns from his mistakes, or learns about other people. Who in the hell actually thicks up a retarded idea like, "Oh, obviously she's figiting because she thinks I'm going to take advantage of her. She thinks too highly of herself!" That's right, no one thinks up something that stupid. You might randomly come up with something similar, but you'll doubt it, and not consider it to be the 100% truth at once like Harima always does. I don't know, the series is just extremely taxing on me because it's so incredibly bullshit everywhere. It's so idiotic that it's not even funny at times. |

It is fun at times. Heck, I enjoyed pretty much everything in episode 16. It was awesome. I loved the first season too. But when they rinse and repeat every misunderstanding 5 times, it gets on my nerves.
I continue to watch it in hopes that there are more episodes like 16 and the first half of 17. |
