I have to say good luck to them in translating shits written by Nisio.
If they ever make it up to Kabuki, I'll say they are very dedicated in it,

I'm glad. I translated two books in the series, but since I am not English mothertongue in the end there were people complaining about the translation. Well, as it is typical for me translation was mostly an exercise for getting better at Japanese, but still... kind depressing.

Not all. They ended the official translation after Kubishime Romanticist. Maybe because Del Rey had defunct some time after that, but then again, the translations for the released books were quite plain IMO.

You simply have to accept that certain things will be lost in translation.

For example, in the first book of Zaregoto you have this island called Wet Crow's Feather Island. Later you are told that in Russian this name means something like despair. The thing is, 鴉の濡れ羽色 (crow's wet feather) is the name of a color in Japanese. It means a glossy black. So basically it's this pitch black that in Russian points to a bleak situation, not the crow's feather.

I don't know if the translator knew about this, but probably he didn't. It is difficult to simply get what Nisio meant.

I managed to get what Hanekawa meant when she said that the name Hitagi is related to public works, but I don't know how many else did.

Correct grammar isn't enough. Some of the subtleties have been lost in translation.
Subtleties is Nisio's strong point in his writings.

It's not about "correct grammar" but "readability"

I know Nisio is hard to translate, but my standards aren't too high considering some of the garbage people have produced...

Those fan-translated Neko Kuro and Shiro are readable enough. What is it that made those fan-translated you claimed as garbage is unreadable to you?

"Public works" is written as 土木 (soil + tree)

He is talking about the fan translation of Zaregoto, which is indeed lacking in the English department.

By the way, thanks. I am the one who translated Kuro. I still got wrong the part about Araragi saying kaii don't exist, because I thought he couldn't really mean to say that.

To be fair, I just read them at glance. Although not all, you got most of it just right, I supposed.

Yeah... Zaregoto. I have not really touch those fan translations though. I have only gone through Kubishime Romanticist official English release to cross check while reading the moonspeak version.

Amazing, all these wonderful character developments, values and lessons shown over the whole series.

Yet, the only thing people seemed to talk about over at Myanimelist is whether or not Hitagi and Kaiki had something going on....
