She had already known Nagisa and Shizuma's relationship was increasingly becoming more than friends and thought they would be a couple. So she made herself content with just being Nagisa's little sister.

I've watched the raw. The preview pictures were a bit misleading (on purpose, I guess). Miyuki is an important character in episode 17 but still a kind of bystander.

I don't know if Miyuki is crying because she sees a change on Shizuma or the fact that Shizuma has feelings on dear Nagisa that made her realize that she no longer had any chance of getting Shizuma to recognize her?

@kct: Please put spoiler tags on that comment. I did not really want to know that at this time. Speculation is fine, but not outright manga references to events that have not happened yet.

I would say a good pairing for Etoile for Miatre would be Tamao and Nagisa. However, an even better twist would be Nagisa and Shizuma, who would serve for only a semester.

As for Spica, Amane and Hikari probably will be the best pairing.

Le Rim really does not have any pairing that would stand out for Etoile at this moment.

They are already more than friends. However, as Amane told Nagisa (episode 12), Miyuki is going to marry someone maybe she doesn't love at all after graduation, which is nothing more than a marriage of convenience but she has no choice. So it was impossible for her to become Shizuma's partner. She should have been only a supporter. (*note)

Also, probably, Miyuki doesn't want to betray the girl who loved and was loved by Shizuma even though she passed away. Miyuki said to Nagisa (episode 17) that she was an important person not only for Shizuma but also for Miyuki.

Now the situation is about to start changing, which could relieve Shizuma. Miyuki has been waiting for that. She wanted her to be freed from the agony. Shizuma's happiness is her happiness. It should be a tearful joy. But... she feels very sad for some reason.

(*note) I think that's why Miyuki gave Nagisa a severe look when Nagisa was whining (episode 12). She said that she and Shizuma wouldn't be there next year. The end is coming soon. Although the fact that she won't be able to support Shizuma anymore wasn't Nagisa's fault at all, she was irritated at her lukewarm attitude toward school life.

Wow. This episode made feel sorry for Tamao. She may have scary stalker-ish antics, but she really doesn't deserve to be left, even dumped, on the sideline like that. Well, the matter is better told by the one fully involved in it, namely Shizuma.

The more episodes i see of strawberry panic the more i see they are drifting away from the manga. I like the manga much better than the anime, but i think the chapters only come monthly, sadly.

I've got a slightly different reading on this compared to htsuji. The way I interpret Miyuki's reactions, those are sad goodbye tears.

We know from earlier episodes that Miyuki was trying to be close to Shizuma - sleeping in the same bed for example. In the RECENT days, she was also trying to be close, even though it was more to cover and care for her. And - as we now know - Miyuki was carrying a key around her neck all the time which obviously has a major significance about the deceased Etoile.

The goodbye talk was very revealing. To me, it's obvious that despite her seemingly colder-scolding behavior towards Shizuma from the former episodes, she never stopped caring deeply. She also saw the gradual change in Shizuma, and while a major part of her seems to be happy about the melting iceberg, she also comes across as very melancholic. Shizuma also has a very fond and gentle look on her face when she thanks Miyuki for her help... before she removes the key from her neck and Miyuki tears up.

My verdict: Miyuki also loved Shizuma, but had her feelings not returned "this" way. After the other Etoile's death, she took care of the emotionally crippled Shizuma - still not having her feelings returned, but in an important key role nevertheless. This role is _over_ now, Nagisa has replaced her as Shizuma's most important person. Also, the way Shizuma thanks Miyuki makes clear that Shizuma was always aware of her feelings, even though she couldn't do more for her.

If you dearly love someone, seeing her heal and finally spread her wings again to start anew (the spring analogy) is a happy moment, but _letting go_ and accepting that your time with this dear someone is up is also very painful. And the source of Miyuki's tears in the end.

Phew, I finaly have catch up with the series(and this is a very good serie I must say). I have just seen episode 17. Didn't happen much in this episode(Tamao isn't very lucky in love =/ ), but I guess that the next one is going to be very good.

you know when this series started i really didnt like it that much but for some reason it has grown on me. So much in fact i look forward to it every as much Higurashi or School Rumble ( and its not just because of the rapid lesbianism even though that helps)

I was pretty shocked about the whole two Etoile thing. I had no clue it was headed in that direction. It was obvious that as Shizuma and Nagisa got closer the deeper into Shizumas past they would have to go.

Everyone speculated about who the dead girl was. Pretty much everyone thought that she was Shizumas former lover but no one even hinted about her being another Etoile.I also find it funny through 17 episodes no one Astreas campus every mentioning that there were suppose to be two. As for Spica i am wondering if the they Amane enters who will be her partner the evil lezzie duo will never let that happen. But all and all I think it was nice twist to add to the mystery of Shizuma's past. Her wanting to tell Nagisa her self is a good sign as Myuki said her icy heart is melting. However did anyone catch how forceful she was when she was telling Nagisa that she was going to see the red leaves at her villa after she asked if Tomoe could come? I wonder if Shizuma has picked on Tomoe's feelings.

Well we all got excited about the whole Shizuma undressing Miyuki thing granted she didnt have to pull her shirt down that far to get the key. even so im still glad she did because DAMN it was hot Miyuki is a looker plus she has brains she definetly a keeper for male and female alike.i dont remember clearly but did Miyuki say that she has a b/f or a betroved?

Does anyone have any guesses to what the evil lezzie duo is up to? when they were sitting on the roof they definetly looked like they were planning something.

Any guesses to what the key Shizuma took back means? My guess is it is the key to her heart and after the other Etoile died she closed off her heart by giving it Miyuki thats how she was able to be so cold and unfeeling. Her taking it back means she has found someone worth giving her heart too. I think she might give it to Nagisa.

The other thing i cant guess is what the dead girl means to Miyuki other than a friend i cant think of anything else. any guesses?
