Despite the thread title, the new movie is unlikely to feature anything from the Macross arc of Robotech, thanks to the numerous lawsuits surrounding the IP. If this happens at all, expect something based on the Mospeada or Southern Cross stories.

I think Warner Brothers know how to handle licensing, given the massive amount of films they've done over the years. You can't really expect one of the major studios to not know how to deal with it? If it says they've acquired the rights, then they know what they're doing.

This bring backs lot of nostalgic memories I vividly remember watching Robotech reruns on cable as a kid . Robotech incidentally happens to be the first anime I watched knowing its an anime . I have to Google this up to find any new info on this movie as this thread is over a year old . P.S. : Sorry Toby for making you the butt on my jokes during the Spirderman Trilogy

Well, there are certain storylines that would make little to no sense in a live-action hollywood movie. Specifically, Minmay and her impact on the war. I can see the love triangle surviving in a Hollywood movie, even Minmay still being a pop idol, but her influence on the war with the Zentradi makes little to no sense, we only accepted it since the show was an anime, so suspension of disbelief is higher than a live-action film. I'm sorry, but no matter how you spin it, her singing having an impact on the war would not be an acceptable storyline for a new generation of sci-fi fan that watch the new Battlestar Galactica, in fact if a live-action Macross movie is made, expect it to be Battlestar Galatica on on a bigger ship with space-fighters that can transform into mechas. That being said, Macross Plus would make a better Hollywood movie.

A live-action Macross movie.. If the CG and designs are similar to that of Transformers, then it shouldn't be that bad. If its low-budget, then it is better avoided. More over, which Robotech or Macross series will it be? Considering that it involves Lynn Minmey, I assume it is the original Macross anime or is it? There is already an anime movie of Macross Frontier to be released..
I don't agree. The legendary Lynn Minmey of Macross should be somebody else.. |

Isn't she like 50 now? This is a live-action film after all...
If this movie were to be made, I would hope that they would hope that Minmaywould be an Asian/Hispanic teen (16-18), so as to balance the most probably white and older actor playing Misa (or, vice versa migth be interesting, minority-Misa, and a white Minmay, or maybe a minority Hikaru...). |

So, she is 45, and looks 30...still too old to be a teen starlet that sings the Zentradi into defeat/peace. Now, if Minmay were a comuputer generated character, sure I would agree with you, but not in a Hollywood film. |
