When I first saw a star destroyer, besides thinking that they were neat looking, I had this nagging question of "Why did they put two water towers on top of the thing?"

The designs say they are sensor towers. That would be a logical place for them, like today's radar arrays. Though they might need one on the bottom of the ship.

The sequence of events is that the entire remaining Rebel fleet concentrates fire on the Super Star Destroyer. This drops its shields enough for the fighters to take out a sensor dome (which would have been covered by the bridge deflector shield). Its destruction informs the crew that shield is down. The Admiral orders all batteries to intensify fire forward to prevent attacks, but with the sensors out the fire control is off (plus Imperial gunners still are not all that good at taking down fighters) an out of control A-wing happens to ram the bridge. With this act and the concentrated fire the entire bridge tower is destroyed (and the flames come out both sides of the ship by the time it rams the Death Star). The ship loses control and the gravity of the Death Star draws in in...destroying it before the engineering crews can regain control of the Imperial Flagship.

At least that's the general interpritation of the event.

However, given what happened in Revenge of the Sith to the Seperatist Flagship, and that it's hangar bay's shields could be shot out from the outside by a Republic fighter concentrating fire on it....I'm under the impression that some naval architect should get fired. Unless they have to be exposed like that for cooling.

They are dual-purpose arrays, that serve as both shield genereators and sensor arrays. As you see: ISD-72x deflector shield generator dome

LOL @ not having the two types of systems separate. Was the Empire trying to save money that way? Well... I suppose after losing the first Death Star... they gotta, right?

Hmm. To expand Imperial revenue... they should turn to Jenny. For business advice.

Conquest and rule by fear. That is the way of the traditional Galactic Empire. The ship could have more security holes than swiss cheese, but if the enemy is too fearful to even attempt to use one of those holes...the Empire wins.

Plus they probably have a few trillion times the funds Jenny's going to have access to for her entire lifetime every quarter. Why else have a star fleet with tens of thousands of Imperial-class Star Destroyers and a few dozen Super Star Destroyers of various classes? Plus tens of thousands of other ships, millions to billion of star fighters....and a dozen or more Super Weapon of the Week projects.

At least Marika does have to deal with those kinds of issues with her Galactic Empire. Though Jenny might be the Pirate Empress someday.

Hmm. Yes, that is the case of the overconfident Fascist types. While power seeking, they presume unstoppable and ultimate power once they feel at their pinnacle, only to be destroyed by something seemingly weak.

That is the way of history.

Similarly would be the case of Jenny's start-up company vs her family's big "Mom Corp" delivery service. Considering that Jenny's is a "travel agency"... well... given the vastness of space... plenty of places for people to travel to -- not just on space cruise liners (to be raided by paid pirates). Someday, Jenny's company will have a headquarters the size of a Death Star. XD

And LOL, delivery service...

Just a large rogue planetary removal station. It also doubles as a mining planetoid able to get you to those hard to reach deep core mineral deposits.

Next season, Marika raids the Maw Installation, and makes off with several prototype weapon systems and a backup computer full of plans? Lucca can see the path, Ai or Kane can thread the needle, and Coorie and Lynn can tag team on hacking the defenses.

And meanwhile, a young girl, the splitting image of Marika, infiltrates the Hakuoh Academy and steals plans of the original Bentenmaru from the encrypted data banks. The club pursues, but the Odette II is caught in the transwarp wake of the spy’s shuttlecraft. They find themselves in orbit around Morningstar, but everything’s different. They've also jumped several months into the future. And that’s when they realize…

...that they are in the Mirror Universe, and another Katou Marika is about to pull off the greatest act piracy ever: Use the Defiant-class Bentenmaru to steal an entire galaxy from the United Federation of Serenity!

(screw star wars, everything is cooler in the Mirror Universe!)

But then Lynn and Jenny wouldn't be into each other, cause if the (regular) Mirror Universe had pretty much every female as bi, this one might have them all as straight.

Evil Pirate Queen Chiaki? Or Evil Political Appointee that happen to command her own Battleship after she assassinated her father?

Jenny and Lynn would be straight, unfortunately. To make matters worse, the Jenny of this universe is subversient to her husband and Lynn doesn't even have anything to do with computers...

But that’s the side-show, right now the Prime Universe Pirates have to find their way home, whilest Mirror Marika intends to add the Odette II to her own fleet, blasters blazing or not.

Chiaki's Marika's openly lesbian partner, and rear admiral, in command of the Barbarossa. The previous captain's fate is unknown, but he supposedly died of food poisoning...

This leads the Prime Pirates to an uneasy alliance with the slimy-yet-competent Harold Doolittle as they speed across the quadrants searching for the Ghost Ship whose subspace wake Mirror Marika used to jump into their universe. And to their surprise, they find the help of Admiral Katou Gonzaemon!

Suddenly, I wish Voyager’s premise was this awesome.

Good thing Hilde found the ring. So the crew is finally out. Liked how the yacht club started up the ship and everything.

Mobirates 19 - Pirates and White Wings

I'm impressed at how good this show is at pulling off episodes in a slice of life fashion. Yes, I mean that as a compliment. This episode could be pretty easily summarized in one sentence - Spring cleaning on the Odette II and Bentenmaru - but the way it presented itself made it feel much fuller than it was. The aftermath of the last arc was shown, and seeing sleepy Marika was cute, if a bit dangerous when manning a spaceship. Most of all, I liked that this episode gave us some interactions between the Yacht Club and the Bentenmaru crew; that's what it looks like the closing episodes will be about. I can't tell the difference between what is and isn't anime-original (nor do I think anime original is a bad thing), so it makes sense.

The first arc was about the club, the second about the pirates, the third about making the Yacht club into pirates, and now to close the show off, the two interact with each other. All permutations of the same idea, watching the characters grow along with it.

The show's really picked up steam, compared to my somewhat tepid first impressions on it.

Regarding this episode's end card
Spoiler for G is for?:

Gokiburi? . May be it is not related to this episode, but here is an interesting article about Cockroaches in Space.
And the end card was written by Mikako-shi? wwww. From the past interviews, radio programs, etc, everything that are handwritten in the anime are actually handwritten (Satou's end cards, Marika's LoM form, Gruier's cheque etc)
