It also depends on what you're doing. Back when I was working in IT, fanfic writing was a good way to refresh my head--by getting the weird ideas out and keeping me sharp for programming.
Trouble is, I now work in NON-IT related Customer Complaints--8.5 hours a day of whining complaining idiots too stupid to switch a lightbulb without professional assistance, and I can't use the computer for personal use. So when I DO find time to write, I'm usually typing on my laptop to and from work.

@wave: can't get worse. You could be working at daycare.
@eras: That's... oddly easy and up my alley right now. Especially since I'm devoid of happiness and want to inflict the maximum amount of pain and scarring while loving every single second of it. >.> |

At least with Daycare or Maternity care, you understand the reasons behind the stress (little kids and stressed mums-to-be). My issue is I'm talking to adults behaving like spoiled children complaining because the things they want aren't free.
I'm not going to go into that. All I say is I've just finished watching Iron Man 3. Ideas in my head areticking, hopefully not to be derailed by Monday.

- Try 20. I used to do community service teaching street children in Tondo. I was less worried about teaching the kids than keeping them from trying to stab each other with pencils. It basically convinced me that teaching kids wasn't my thing.

- I was unemployed for three years because of the IT slump, and recruiters told me to give up, because I was never working in IT ever again. That's how I got my Customer Complaints job---doing things that everyone else doesn't want to do.
You know, this could be a good angle into IS. Since women are the stronger gender in IS, then that means all of the lousy jobs are handled by men, right?

@ Jak - Its obvious he does. He goes on with Charles how much of a relief getting another guy friend in the academy is and, during special volumes, he whines that he couldn't go to the arcade with Dan and Kazuma because they had other plans.

It's quite realistic, anyway.
Once you go to different school, especially if it's course-specific (say: engineering or medical), it's really hard to relate with them anymore. And that's not counting new friends you might have in the new place. Doesn't say it's impossible, just that it would be hard to be as close as before. Ichika probably got it worst because to put it simply: all his new friends are girls, no exception. I can't blame him even a little for whining.

I mean look at this: Compare him to Ledo from Suisei no Gargantia or Hachiman from RomCom SNAFU. Ledo has his analytical view on things along with his belief that killing an enemy absolutely is the best choice. Hachiman is defined by his loner nature and his cynical view of relationships and friendship. What does Ichika have? His obviousness? His utter incapability to think about a plan other than charging in and hoping he wins? I don't see anything.
