The opening theme song is great. No CGI this week and honestly, I think I don't feel bothered by it anymore after seeing the first two episodes.
I really love the character chemistry between Asirpa and Sugimoto in this show. Plus, Asirpa has great survival skills and knows how to hunt so she can work quite well with him. Hope we get to see more character expressions as the comedy feels somewhat tame for now.

Great episode, but I feel sorry for the squirrels.
The bit where Sugimoto says he likes squirrels, and Asirpa says she likes squirrels because they're delicious (and wipes her mouth) was priceless, the show has a sense of humour which keeps it alive. |

Poor squirrels. I share Suigimoto's befuddlement that Asirpa eats her meat raw, not just because I'm unused to that, but because I'm pretty sure that eating raw meat is supposed to be rather unhealthy. Though she did mention that one of the reason she like squirrels is because all they eat are nuts, so there' probably a lower chance of contamination.

The art was pretty bad. The rest was nice, though. Especially the narrator. Having this legendary seiyuu as the narrator of your series is always a good thing.
Plenty of development in this episode. Two prisoners caught, an enemy faction appearing, and the unexpected presence of Hijikata in a show set decades after his death. Good stuff. I enjoy learning things about Ainu too (I admit I know very little about them), though I did feel bad for the poor squirrels.

Squirrels around my suburban neighborhood outside Boston carry rabies. That might have little relevance to Hokkaido more than a century ago. I didn't see much about humans contracting rabies by eating the meat of infected animals, but the brains would be a particularly bad choice given how the virus spreads.
I have a gag reflex that will be tested over the episodes ahead it appears. Imagining eating raw squirrel triggered just a small reaction so far, but I'm sure there will be more exotic items down the road. Maybe this show will be good for me! Brings a whole new meaning to the Iyashikei ("healing") genre. Asirpa's seiyuu is Shiraishi Haruka described on her ANN bio as "a seasoned stage/theater actress [who] got her first major role when she was 12 years old." She certainly can act with her voice. Nearly every line she speaks commands your attention.

Funny episode...though I could have done without the raw squirrel brain, but I liked the rest.
Wonder if that Escape King is gonna be a companion to our main characters—That hypothermia scene between the two was hilarious so I wouldn’t mind if he joined them. |

It is kinda sad that everything is good... except the visual quality (which I guess means the manga is so good, the dumb-downed anime is still good enough).
I heard that this manga actually has some fame in Japan, but they couldn't get the budget? -> *checks Gene Studio's resume* -> ...Naruhodo na!

Ep. 2 was pretty good. I find myself very much enjoying this series even though we only have two episodes thus far. Looking forward to next week.

They choose how spend their little money, unlike Kokkoku was easier to animated, wilderness can be a nightmare so they keep it low detail show the close-up and actions scene are pretty top notch, that help, show the wilderness as harsh and vague

^Such a pity to, this anime had a good chance for beautiful scenery (I love a good winter scene) particularly where this anime is set—ah well most people are huge on battle scenes and good figures so they put their budget into that instead.
