Some of these options to me are a joke. I barely had to think through these picks. I think 2014 is a solid year because of the sheer variety of enjoyable titles across all genres. It's not going to be remembered as a year of master pieces, but it definitely had something for everybody.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that it's undeserving of being here - it's undoubtedly impressive and praiseworthy. But the fact is that HxH is also a titan with quadruple the amount of time and budget (as it happens) to impress over 11-26 episode long shows. It isn't exactly a square contest - it just is what it is. Like any long-running shounen, Hunter benefits from having five or so extra seasons to build momentum before even hitting 2014. Long-running series/shounen categories have been created in the past for that very reason.

There's a reason very few long-running shows manage to remain widely-admired. H x H has a harder job here, not an easier one.

Depends on the community, depends on the person. Some communities/people revere long-running shounen above anything.

As for me, I usually see enough to know whether to continue a title within 5 minutes.

Hayashi Yuuki is clearly the best up and coming anime composer, lucky for Sawano they are managed by the same company in Legendoor.
