It might help if you explained in what context you want the answer I'll assume you just want a basic explanation when the term is used with fansubs.

A simple explanation is that hardsubs "burn" the subtitles into the video, they are part of the image for each frame. Softsubs "overlay" the subtitles onto the video and therefore can be turned off, you can also offer multiple subtitles (i.e. different languages) and the viewer can select which (if any) to display.

We've started using the terms hardsub and softsub on the AnimeSuki listings. In this context we are using it as shorthand to mean "h264 and mkv = softsub" and "h264 and mp4 = hardsub".

I would like to elaborate on what xris said, basically a "hardsub" is "always on", while a "soft sub" can be on or off... See also closed captioning and this "blog".

Question if I am asking for a suggestion about a video game, should I post it in the suggestions forum or the games forum?

When asking for any sort of suggestion or recommendation (be it for an anime, game, manga, etc.) please use the Suggestions forum

Oh, I always figured it was short for 'Mac'.

Hence, I would read that as MacCain.

Am I wrong?

"Mc" is a Gaelic ancestral name which means "son of". "Mac" means the same thing. So John is son of Cain. Cain and Abel were the first children of Adam and Eve born after the Fall of Man; Cain killed Abel out of jealousy and was exiled by God. So don't vote for him. ^_^

Similarly in Russia (Romanov/Ivanova) and some Slavic countries (suffixes "-ić" and "-ović" for the last name) also denote son of.

Generically you're probably thinking of a tailcoat; but the answer could be any number of things depending on the context, formality, and historical period being considered.

Could it be possible for a heavy weight lifter etc. to rip somebody's jaw off of their face?

I mean grab their upper and lower teeth and just rip it away? What kinda power would that reguire? And give him some steel enforced gloves too.

There are conditions where the jaw decays, and in some cases it happens naturally with age. So the answer is yes, it is possible, and the strength of the person doing the ripping would depend on how solid the reciptient's jaw muscles and bone are.

Ohh yeah biting muscles, it'd be impossible...

Well a surprise attack could do the trick too...

Nobody would want to do that to some old grandpas

I've seen this face used a lot in illustrations and suches but I've never actually researched or even know what this facial expression is called.

Other than delightfully happy, ^^

Hi, I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place, probably not, but here it goes.
I am doing an essay for college on how violence in the media affects children nowadays. I would love if any of you could please upload a few screenshots of some of the most known animes of all times (Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Pokémon, Digimon, etc) where there are characters being shown in violent situations. I know that these animes I mentioned are clearly not as violent as, let's say, Elfen Lied or Higurashi, but I'm only focusing on animes that are widely popular among children.

Thank you so much in advance.
