I'm more concerned that they get Kyon's voice right.... that would seriously break the english dub if they choose poorly (not that I watch them in english, but it would affect sales).

Wow, she really has the style down and can do a lot of approximations of different VAs very well.

You mean there are actually good-looking english voice-actors?
Impossible That's a first.

One thing I'm more positive about is that "psychic" feels like a better rendition than "esper," as the Japanese word for 'esper' is エスパー. Although, I suppose 'esper' is closer to what Koizumi actually does, though.

Otherwise, I'm very worried about the dub cast, the status of the extras, and the possibility of overmarketing the series. As much as I'd love to buy a t-shirt with the SOS団 logo on it, I'd rather not see it in Hot Topic next to the Bleach figurines and the Naruto jacket.

I suppose I should just focus in on "good video encode? good sound track on japanese audio? subtitles don't completely suck?" .... then I'm good for it.

I'll be amazed if any merchandizing catches on in Ameri-land domestic but if any series has a chance this might be one.

No no no, ...not a worry at all. They'll just put it between the "Andy Warhol Jesus Tote" and the "Lamb Of God Heart And Wings Logo Pins." ...which is never located too far from the "Jesus Adhesive Bandages."

She totally deserves a starring role.

Oh, in that case, I have no objections

But seriously, I can see some rather distasteful things happening to this series. Like any cult classic, it's prone to overmarketing and overexposure, ultimately resulting in exhaustion (Napolean Dynamite, anyone?). Popularity has little to no effect on my interests, but it'll get real old real fast listening to all the yaoi fangirls slash Kyon and Itsuki all the time.

why would yaoi fangirl see Koizumi as somebody to like, other than for his good looks? he babbles about metaphysics/philosophy and his abilities are more restricted than Nagato ...

Also reminds me of the VA for Mimi way back for Digimon. Bleh.

Patricia Lee (according to ANN) did part of Lain and Akira. I wasn't a fan of the entire Lain dub cast, but I think she did a good job there. Hopefully she can bring that forward...

Great find. Her voices fits really well with Haruhi's personality.

I am starting to wonder what they are going to do with the concert songs.

I'm trying to remember what other series have done with musical moments... only one I can think of is Love Hina. I have the collection (from Bandai no less) but I've never listened to the English dub for more than 10 seconds (bleh). I may seek out the OVA where a few of them sing and check.

I *really* don't want to think too hard about an english dub though... hmmm, (runs off to see what the recent Pani Poni Dash did with their OP/ED in the english dub). I just really can't imagine them making the leap successfully.

so it has begun The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya being licensed in the US
i wonder how they will do the casting for this show
but i"m even more surprised that Bandai got the distribution rights to this show
usually it would be big name companies like Funimation and ADV but it happens to be Bandai that got it
but it was super clever for them to do this kind of announcement through one internet site!!

well there are two things that are making me think about the licensing of this show
for one: sounds like they are gonna rename the SOS brigade into the "ASOS Brigade"

and another thing is about Asahina and Yuki"s voices in the American release of this
show
sounds like they are gonna leave Asahina and Yuki"s voices in japanese meaning no english dub for them unless they just dont know who will do their voices yet and just added in two japanese girls into the trailer>>>

but i guess we all will not know anything about any DVD releases until some time>>>>
