The story revolves around so-called "Relics"—mysterious items with special powers that range from obviously dangerous to deceptively harmless—and the havoc they wreak. Again and again, Tokiya Kurusu and Saki Maino, two part-timers at the Tsukumodo Antique Shop (FAKE), find themselves in new difficult situations as they help their employer, Towako Settsu, to take such Relics into custody.
Why do they seem to be haunted by such incidents and what fate awaits the never-smiling girl and the death-seeing boy...?

Strange it didn't have a thread .. it seems the author has a curious way of writing, but it's definitely unique and well done. Besides the story of the relics seems mysterious and interesting. Certainly a novel that deserves to be read.

This is actually a series I came across some time ago and came to enjoy quite a bit. It is nothing spectacular in and of itself, but for me it has an endearing quality to it. Haven't ever been able to figure out fully why.

I have stopped at second volume, because I like it (so I read more carefully and I check any single word if I'm not sure of meaning), but for sure I will read it further.

I like, that sometimes main character fails, I enjoy a development of romance, quite slow but I heard it gets faster in last volumes. Hover author like to make twists, so I'm almost sure each story will end in different way than it looks to be going to. There is no plain villains (mostly) as well as story have dramatic moments without trying to be much edgy. Also a small philosophical prologue before a each story is a very nice introduction, which is making a atmosphere. It is just well balanced in my opinion.

that's a very good series actually. I've read the 7 volumes and honestly, having read tsukumodou, I have a hard time understanding the hype around hakomari. I mean Tsukumodou is basically the same kind of story, except better. Better characters development for the main couple, better romance between them, better mysteries, better surprise in the last few volumes.

And more importantly, the way Tsukumodou is written just impressed me. That author really thought out the composition of each volume. Looking at it after finishing it, that's even more obvious.

I've read the first four volumes awhile ago and really enjoy the way the characters interact along with some of the artifacts. Some of the chapters are pretty long but definitely worth the read.

Going to give the remaining 3 volumes a try later this year.

It's very nice indeed. Also leaving the final chapter for the development of the relationship between the main couple is a perfect choice. The dark atmosphere moreover, I perceive it so clearly. It remind me of a book I read long ago.
It's really a shame to see how valuable novel as Tsukumodo, Rokka or Magdala don't have that great success (although Magdala is going quite well), but we know how these things go.

Anyone knows if somebody translated it apart from eusth? Or if he has plans for traslating it soon? Because I have read the 4 volumes and i'm going crazy waiting for the rest.

I believe at the moment only the Chinese translation has caught up to the original.
As for Eusth -- I've heard from a fairly reliable source that he's working on it.


Seriously though, it's my last unfinished project, so I would definitely like to get done with it ... someday. I can't make any promises, since I'm going to be rather busy soon. If any translator wants to join in, you're always welcome as long as you finish at least one chapter.

Actually, I find them to be quite different. Hakomari is psychological, over-the-top, follows a golden thread from start to finish and focuses on tricking the reader, while Tsukumodo is more fantasy, down-to-earth, (mostly) episodic and has a sweet, well-developed romance (Tokiya x Saki > Maria x Kazuki). While they do both have the "magical items" that wreak havoc with the lives of their users, I'd compare Tsukumodo to Dantalian no Shoka or Sakurada Reset if I had to.

hahaha I would be satisfied only with a chapter, but it's awesome that you're working on it. I don't care how many time it takes, I'll wait.
Meanwhile I'm trying to learn Japanese, but I think you'll finish translating everything before I could translate even a leaf.

I was thinking if it's possible to Tsukumodo Antique shop to become an anime. I'm pretty ignorant about how anime is made, or what light novel, mangas, games, etc are selected. I know that often their are recent and unfinished.
Also, I don' t know if its a rentable story for the japanese audience, because generally they like harem, ecchi, mecha, sci fiction, etc. And Tsukumodo is kinda the opposite, but there are animes like sakurako san, gosick, dantalian no shoka, hyouka, etc that are of this genre.
I have the idea, if its not silly or unlikely, to send an email to any animation studio which has made this type of anime, and propose Tsukumodo like a project. But I don't know japanese and I would not be taken seriously. Maybe with more people at least I don't know, there would be more possibilites.
I know, it's imposible and kinda inocent think that way, but I would like to see your opinions.

Well it would be nice, but I think the chances are very low.

I post two opinions of Kakurin-san and shadow1296 that I read, because I think they can make you well understand what is behind the creation of anime.

Basically, producing anime isn't exactly a cheap business, so in order to get the funding and spread the risks production committees are formed. For example you have, aside from the studio, the publisher of the original work, a TV network in it, or advertising companies, or merchandising companies, distributors etc. And these committees are obviously different for each work with different individual interests. That's why it's rather pointless to compare work A and work B from the same studio and ask why did they do this like that for work A and differently for work B

Animation studio's don't have a single team, they have multiple teams with different goals, one could make an anime that can stand on its own you don't have to read the LN to continue the story or get major plot points, another is to boost LN sales these usually are the ones that have decent adaptations but Never get other seasons, or to make anime that can be produced for multiple seasons, but they are always given a budget, an finite amount of time, and told to produce a profit, usually hurting the stories in the process which can't be avoided (LN's only have to deal with the make a profit condition which is why LN's are usually better than there anime adaptations) this not counting other behind the scenes conditions like having to adapt up to a certain point or no anime is why most adaptations suffer

Basically, this novel is already finished and they no longer need to promote it. For this, an animated transposition is unlikely.
Besides, it's not that popular in Japan (unfortunately).
The money spent might not come back, so they don't risk the investment.

A small note that there are a few anime companies that break the mould of not having a single team. Such as Kyoto Animation, which has its own in-house animation team (compared to freelancers other anime studios use).

Hi! Just a silly thing, but isn't Sayuri Muranashi really alike to Saki?? I started the new season of "Working!!" and I love her and I realize that is actually like Saki. Anyone who have seen it thinks the same? If you didn't see it, I recomend it, it doesn't care if you don't see the other seasons because this one is a new generation unrelated with the previous ones.

So it was a continuation of the story of the calamity jar, that sure is a disturbing relic. Even this time I’m sorry they had to forget everything but Kairi seems to have found peace.
These Saki reaction … do not seem to predict anything good for her.
When she says “I wasn’t sure whether or not I wanted to stay in the world, so I was hesitant to let go of the truth.” mean she isn’t sure if she want to go back to the real world, right ?
Besides, she seems to be suffering…

Doesn't anyone know how this series end? I'm getting a bad vibe after reading volume 5
