Today's match: Aisaka Taiga vs Saginomiya Isumi
Aisaka Taiga Past Results: Round 4: Taiga 825 (53.71%) - Azusa 711 (46.29%) Round 3: Taiga 850 (53.97%) - Maria 725 (46.03%) Round 2: Taiga 786 (45.96%) - Ami 627 (36.67%) - Mikuru 297 (17.37%) Round 1: Taiga 726 (53.74%) - Lynette 521 (38.56%) - Louise 68 (5.03%) - Ruby 36 (2.66%) Preliminary Group 13 1 - Yui - 621 2 - Taiga - 594 3 - Hisa - 584 4 - Alicia - 338 Saginomiya Isumi Past Results: Round 4: Isumi 759 (50.74%) - Kana 737 (49.26%) Round 3: Isumi 475 (53.37%) - Nagi 415 (46.63%) Round 2: Isumi 607 (49.47%) - Kana 457 (37.25%) - Perinne 163 (13.28%) Round 1: Isumi 525 (45.18%) - Haruka 454 (39.07%) - Kafuka 118 (10.15%) - Tiffania 65 (5.59%) Preliminary Group 3 1 - Isumi - 408 2 - Komoe - 340 3 - Hiro - 323 The quarterfinals start today. We open with the first and only quarter final match to not have a Saki character in it. Taiga is the first of two character from Preliminary Group 13 to make the quarterfinals. She can't lose until she gets to avenge her loss to Yui. Isumi on the other hand won her preliminary match without trouble. However, her preliminary group didn't have any really strong characters in it. Isumi is pretty much out of her league against Taiga. Taiga has already directly defeated Maria, a stronger character from the same series as Isumi. Taiga followed that win up by defeating Azusa a powerful K-On character. Kushieda who is weaker than Taiga also easily dispatched out Ayumu who is around Isumi in strength. Isumi's win over Nagi (from Kannagi) and narrow escape from Kana doesn't cut it. Isumi's only real hope is there's an assassination attempt on Taiga. Taiga has shown herself to be a serious contender to take the crown while Isumi is harmless. Taiga supporters aren't going to go all out against Isumi. K-On or Saki supporters make take this opportunity to temperorarly boost Isumi and take out Taiga. There's fair sized gap to overcome, though. Realisticly, I don't think K-On, Hayate and Saki are going to be able to work together. Also if their efforts start to show up in the unofficial, Taiga will go all out and crush Isumi. Isumi did well getting this far, but it's the end of the line. Taiga shouldn't have trouble winning and it'll be an easier match than her Round 3 and Round 4 opponents. Round 6 is going to be a big match, though. My prediction: Taiga - 56.83% Isumi - 43.17% I'm voting for Aisaka Taiga.

Fine, I'll try to get serious, but I'm just too lazy to write anything about Saimoe after my blog post.
QF1: Taiga - Sorry, blueblue has to go this time QF2: Nodoka, Louise - This pink showdown probably won't go Louise's way... QF3: Mihoko, Yuuki - One taco, two taco, three taco, FLOOR! QF4: Yui - Going to Gitah heaven

If this year is anything like last year, it will be an uphill fight against Nodoka since she holds what was Kagami's place in 2008. Top vote holder from the Preliminaries.
However it is not so much of a fight as it would be against Kagami 2008...highest vote was in the mid 600s rather than Kagami's nearly 1,000. This means that of those that made it this far, Taiga, Yui, and Yuuki have a real shot at Nodoka. Louise, by her later vote results, also has a shot but she has to make her move first.

Result
Predictions: 0-1 (114-32) Picks: 0-1 (70-75) Winners: Haramura Nodoka Wow... I didn't expect Nodoka to beat Nagi. Not sure how they managed to pull that especially with HnG, Kugimiya Rie, and anti-Saki fans backing Nagi. Saki faction is scary ;_; QF1 <<逢坂大河@とらドラ!>> (Aisaka Taiga @ Toradora!) <<鷺ノ宮伊澄@ハヤテのごとく!!>> (Saginomiya Isumi @ Hayate no Gotoku!!) Taiga is going to destroy the weak Isumi. I'm already surprised that she got so far. |

I don't think Nodoka is comparable to 2008 Kagami. Excluding the preliminaries, no one had gotten within 400 votes of beating Kagami at the end of Round 4. Kagami's semifinal opponent was still 200 votes away from beating her. Kagami looked like and was on another level compared to her opponents. Nodoka has already had a near miss against Sanzenin Nagi and there are opponents left stronger than Hinagiku. Nodocchi is still a potential contest winner, but she doesn't look nearly as untouchable as Kagami did.
