I laughed more than I had expected but not exactly in the right way. Well, at least the theme songs are catchy and the setting has some creativity around it. Fan service was more than I had expected though..

Crisp and clean animation. Nakajima's design was more or less kept as it was (including the appealing... curves I guess ) and so on.
That said, the first half of the first episode was utterly boring (which is not usual, since I'm a fan of tsukkomi, moreso with KyoAni series). I understood they wanted to nail how crappy the theme park became, but it awfully lacked any punch whatsoever, and the pacing was as slow as a snail. I just hope it was done on purpose to reflect the dull atmosphere in the theme park, otherwise I'm not sure if the series will be any entertaining if it keeps this way. At least, things went way better on the last third part of the episode, with a very quick tease regarding Seiya's past with Latifa. Likewise, the fact Seiya and Isuzu (and probably more "merry" Amaburi employee) can use magic might actually lead to fairly interesting situations. Suffice to say, this series need to pull out its A game next week pronto, otherwise it will be a disaster.

The shaky roller coaster made me laugh but they spent way too much time on showing the viewer how crappy the theme park is. It just went on and on and none of them were particularly "funny". I thought Kyo Ani was usually pretty on point with their comedic timing, but not in this episode.

I actually enjoyed the first episode well enough, but count me among the group that wants to see this show pick it up a bit. At least the male lead isn't totally generic what with his being a massive narcissist.
The wall of photos at the sweets shop would have been the perfect place for a FMP cameo. |

Amagi sure is much, much better in animated form and it even had early cameo of the elemental fairies. Sento/Latifah are lovely and Kanie is not bad at all, his "special ability" looks great too.
OP video and song both excellent. ED standard stuff and OST normal stuff too so far. Yep, Kyoani is back in the game. |

Princess Latifa: Kanie Seiya. Years ago you served the entertainment industry. Now the industry begs you to help the theme park in the struggle against foreclosure. I regret that I am unable to convey the complete extent of my request to you, but the theme park has fallen into disinterest, and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to become the theme park's manager may still fail. I have placed a special magic vital to the survival of the theme park into the memory systems of your brain. I'm sure you will know how to use it. You must see and evaluate the attractions of Amagi Brilliant Park as soon as possible. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Kanie Seiya. You're my only hope.
Sento Isuzu: [to Seiya] You must learn the ways of the Manager, if you're to come with me to Amaburi. Kanie Seiya: Amaburi? I'm not going to Amaburi, I've gotta get *home*, it's late, I'm in for it as it is! Sento Isuzu: I need your help, Kanie Seiya. She needs your help. She's getting too distressed for this sort of thing. Kanie Seiya: Look, I can't get involved. I've got work to do. It's not that I like being cooped up in school; I hate it, but there's nothing I can do about it right now... It's all such a long way from here. Sento Isuzu: That's your ego talking.
