Episode was wonderful. Once again the show really gets into the psychology of the onlookers and the performer. The mother angle is a bit to be ignored, but the way Kousei is really putting everything into this because of Kaori's pressure to make him do stuff is going to progress the situation in a manner that may be questionable, but sure is interesting.

And Emi manages to steal the show again with her perception and knowledge, and that other guy... umm Yuki Kaji guy... is pretty entertaining as well.

ep 10 :

quite late impression post here...
another magical episode... Kousei rise again from the bottom to achieve the best of his emotion
I'm sure he won't be able to hear any notes until he could master the way to share his emotion through music
well, that music is basically a confession of Kousei's love to Kaori *which she is quite aware of it*

watching rivals' reaction, I think Emi is the only one who would feel challenged and improve herself more
while that spiky-haired boy might felt broken because he only saw Arima based on perfection... The perfect Arima is not there anymore and he can't accept new Arima as rival

A reminder which I'm going to put in my every post here from now on: Kousei's mother didn't want him to be a pianist. Quite an unexpected spin, eh?

And since impressions from manga and anime seem to overlap in my head, I'd wisely avoid posting more than needed.

To whoever possibly follows the Manga, can someone send me a PM with spoilers about the reason for Kaori's cryptic remarks?
I'm having a very bad feeling about it...

Ep11. Wonderful episode...again. I was really affected by two moments: the long moment when he realized that his mom's eminent friend was going to help him, and the perfect-length build-up to his telling Kaori whom he was playing for. Emotion done right.

Kousei's mother might not have wanted to make him a pianist, but when she became ill, it appears that her mind changed, and he became her proxy. Human beings.

We don't need any spoilers to know that something is seriously wrong with Kaori's health. But in these matters, I am an optimist. The power of love and all that. Kaori doesn't really have any feelings for Watari, she was just trying to live life to its fullest. But now she can live life fully without leaving the realm of music. And Watari really does like Tsubaki, as came out a bit more clearly in ep10 (Watari to Kousei: "I'm me, you're you. I can't appeal to Tsubaki's maternal instincts.").

Definitely the best show of the season, for me.

Awesome episode. Hiroko is beautiful, Kousei totally destroying Takeshi's disillusioned admiration of him, that last scene with the fireflies and Kaori's last line....shieeeeet, man.

The confrontation with Takeshi in the first half was so tense and strong.
Felt some Ping Pong vibes there.

So little blonde kid that kept showing up was Seto's daughter
Dang, the last scene

Its going to be a Clannad moment for me, but from the many many flags and foreshadowing.
I can' t wait for Kaori to die to see Kousei's reactions and development from it.

Wait... Is it really a sure thing that Kaori is gonna die? Has it already happened in the Manga?

To answer that would be a spoiler, so...let's just keep watching, shall we?

Also, although the endcard was translated otherwise, I'm pretty certain there's no episode next week. The next episode will screen on the second Thursday of January...

Edit:

Also, I wanted to respond to this earlier, and had been planning to do so last week before RL got the better of me:

See, I get a different impression, which Kaoru Chujo has also suggested. Kousei's mum seemed like a really loving mother in the way that she was teaching him piano at the start. E.g. in episode 4, she's trying to get Kousei to play as if he were caressing a baby's head; and in this most recent episode, we see that she was reluctant to bring him into the 'cruel world' of being a (concert) pianist.

Getting sick changed her. Exactly how and why, we still do not know, but it's also clear that Kousei, for some reason, started associating her illness with him not playing to her standards. He probably wanted her to become well again, to return to the happy, healthy person she was before she became ill.

What has been presented to us is that Kousei hated those beatings - of course he would, they hurt, and he wanted to play with his friends. But the reason he remained on his mother's side isn't so much that he thought that 'such beatings are just part of "prental love"', but rather because his mother wasn't like that before she got sick, and he wanted her to return to the way she was before.

It was obviously an unhealthy way of thinking, because it was not his fault, and there was nothing he was going to have been able to do about her illness. But was it 'wrong', in the sense that he shouldn't still have love his mother? Was it wrong because he was loving her just because he was dependant on her? Well, my contention here is that he didn't love her just because he was dependant on her, rather the feelings are more complicated than that. And I wouldn't say that they were 'wrong', it's just that his feelings for his mother and his approach to her deterioration in physical and mental health combined with the approaches of all those around him (including Hiroko-san, who was the person pushing the wheelchair -- she's listed in the credits of episode 9) to lead to the Kousei we met at the beginning of the series.

KimiUso isn't just giving us the story of Kousei overcoming the problems he has when we first met him, it's also slowly revealing how those problems came to be in the first place, possibly because knowing the origins of those problems is instrumental in finding the 'solutions'.

Well. Kaori's home has railings installed so whatever her condition is its chronic and something that she's been dealing with for a while.

The way she talks its seems her condition is terminal. So I guess we have to speculate what her prognosis is?

I dunno, while the context is completely different the relationship so far reminds me of Sundome. Kaori trying to pull the potential she sees out of someone and trying to instill memories of herself into others that will last run parallel to the Hideo/Kurumi relationship.

I don't think Kousei confessed to Kaori as he made a blunt statement that "he had Miyazono", so it's not clear whether it's intimate or not.

After all, Kaori has her sight on Watari, who is oblivious to her feelings.

There is only 1 channel showing episode 12 next week: テレビ西日本. The other channels will show it on January 8, so that is 3 weeks from today. So I guess it depends on if certain stream sites will show it; otherwise, it's going to be a long 3 week wait.

This episode was so emotional for me. I really love the scene between Kousei and Takeshi. I love how Kousei handled that situation with being himself and mentally accepting things.

I also noticed that Kaori (or is it KaWoRi ) did not force Kousei to join her this time, but just politely asked him. It is a change for her to do this, and in a sense, I guess she is asking him what he wants to do next.

Seto Hiroko is the leading the pianist, according to Kaori, and she is going to teach Kousei on the piano. This is going to be interesting. Of course the "best student" is going to get the best player as his teacher.

The scene at the end with Kousei and Kaori was emotional as well. For a second, I thought Kousei only confessed in his mind, but I guess he said it out-loud after all. Kaori also realizes that she can't always be there for him, so either she has a terminal illness or something like Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) where her motor functions deteriorates to a point where she can't play anymore. I do hope she pulls through, but the way the story is going, I feel the end will be quite sad.

Actually, why was Kaori in tears when she was listening to Kousei's performance? I'm pretty sure they were tears of joy, but how come? The confession? He accomplished something she wanted? He reaffirmed something for her? It was sort of strange.

As Benigmatica noted, that wasn't a confession. Kousei's basically told Kawori that he was playing for her, but it's not like he's even realised that he likes her. I think he's denying his feelings because he believes that she likes Watari (NB: whoever is translating this series somehow mistranslated this in at least one episode. The line has always been "A girl that likes my friend." etc) At least, that's how it seems to me.

Really? 'Cos the schedule on Thursday (Christmas Day) has something else on at the time that KimiUso is usually broadcast on that channel (26:35). The anime website has also announced nothing to that effect...

The impression I've gotten is that Kawori's goal from the start was to get Kousei back into music and playing the piano. She obviously knew exactly who he was before she even approached Tsubaki about introducing her with Watari (as she told him in episode 3, 05:40~; she even knows that Seto Hiroko was his mother's good friend - Watari didn't even recognise her, and Tsubaki just barely remembered that 'she was always around Kousei's mum'). She was waiting for him that day on the bridge, and switched to an unexpectedly serious look and tone of voice when she used his guilt at ruining her competition to get him to enter a competition of his own. Then we have her reactions and comments in the last two episodes. ("It didn't matter what piece he played. As long as he entered the competition... Just by placing himself in this particular space...there's no way he won't feel provoked. The other pianists...won't allow him to stop. After all, he's a musician." "I'm sure the clock's hands will move. Time will start flowing again." and then, later. "No! Don't stop (playing)!")

So Kousei finding something to play for, something that would keep bringing him back to the stage, that would keep him being a musician, was what I think brought Kawori to tears. It would seem that her main goal in the first half of this series has been accomplished.

The question is whether this was enough, which seems to be why she's less forceful about the Towa gala concert. From now on, the important thing is for Kousei to really step onto the stage all of his own will, not because someone else has pushed him up there.

Not necessarily. Bannisters can be common in mullti-level apartments also. It doesn't really provide that much support for going up steps. It would work more like an aid to lessen the injury from a fall imo.

Except that those railings weren't on the stairs, but in the corridor outside the bedrooms on the upper floor, and Kawori was shown and heard to lean heavily on it before heading into her room...

You are right after checking channel page. It probably is a mis-entry from the schedule source I use here. It's going to be a long 3 week wait.

Ah, that does make sense, even if it feels like she has more of a vested interest in Kousei than we can see on the surface. It just feels strange that she has so much of an emotional attachment towards Kousei. We are definitely missing something with her background about this. Well, actually, we don't really know much about her background at all.
