For some reason the novels printed in taiwan have different anime cover arts. They are waaaay superior to the japanese anime one...

================================================ In regard to the designs, I think each has its own taste and merit. Well, character designs don't affect my anime rating that much anyway, compared to stories. A story is most important factor for me. Even still, if I have to choose one design that does NOT suit HaruChika series the most, it's Taiwanese one. I think Taiwanese edition's artist, Rum's sense of character design is very close to what you see often in Otome games(Utapri, Kamigami no Asobi, Dance with Devils, etc.) . Honestly, Taiwanese Haruta looks most so-called bishy to me and Chika reminds me of Otome game heroines. And especially that flashy school-uniform. I don't have anything against them, but I think Otome game designs suit unrealistic, fantastic, out of the ordinary setting stories. On the contrary, HaruChika is rather realistic story. No idols, gods, devils, etc. However, biggest reason for making the images was the Taiwanese one, actually. Because I have the thought above(realistic art for realistic work), when I first saw it, I was a bit surprised that they are using that kind of design for this novel and I thought it was interesting. I don't know why Taiwanese publisher chose the design, but maybe they thought it would be popular with girls because of Haruta's feeling for Kusakabe-sensei? ================================================ Finally, it started. The promised AOTS. The first episode was totally anime original story. (I wonder if Hatsuno-sensei , the original novel author gave some idea for this episode.) But it's understandable. Because actually, the first story(case) of the novel started in autumn, not typical way for Japanese school setting story. Entering high school, entering the club, reunion with Haruta, first meeting with Kusakabe-sensei, those things are done before the beginning of the story in the novel. Oh, the twin sisters are anime original characters btw. ================================================ About "Fumonkan (普門館) Fumon Hall" If you have watched Hibike! Euphonium, probably remember this building from the OP. This is Nagoya Congress Center. And one of this building's facility, Century Hall is the current Japanese concert band (wind instrument, brass band) competition's national stage. (2005, 2012 - current) http://www.nagoya-congress-center.jp/english/ http://www.nagoya-congress-center.jp...u/century.html Before Nagoya Congress Center, the competition was held at Fumonkan. (1972, 1977 - 2011 Though, in 2005, Fumonkan was used for another event, so the competition was held at Nagoya Congress Center.) https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%99...96%80%E9%A4%A8 http://www.kosei-kai.or.jp/040honbu/0405/index.html In the past, the word "Fumonkan" itself meant the Nationals just like "Koshien" means Japanese high school baseball tournament because it's held at Koshien Stadium. But, in 2012 they found out there was a issue with earthquake resistance. And because of building law, they couldn't even rebuild it. So Fumonkan was not used for the competition anymore. So, if a year of this story happen to be revealed in the anime and it was after 2012, then it makes the anime look like a parallel world. But, then again I think it's fun idea to depict and revive the Fumonkan competition which we can never see in real life. For the record, Hibike! Euphonium novel vol.1 was first published in 2013 and HaruChika series novel vol.1 was in 2008. Last edited by Kamieichi; 2016-01-10 at 09:02. |

Translating bass tuba as euphonium... I know names of instruments have long complicated history and can be vague sometimes. But this is seriously confusing. And I thought funimation would go with "Wind Instrument Club", not "Concert Band club. And now it's "Brass band club". Well, that's ......interesting. |
