lol i live in sydney Australia, the high school i attended most people know what anime is or have a general idea :P not so much like it but yeah we watched like two-three anime movies for visual arts as part of our lessons so as to people liking it that a whole different story >.< well i do know like 1/4 of the school is either a narutard or into bleach and one piece. but only a handful of people watch not mainstream animes like me (as in elfen lied, clannad, gantz, angel beats, SNS).

Philippines has a very large population of anime fans. Particularly because three of its main channels regularly broadcast anime series, even those which are not particularly mainstream (like Fantastic Detective Labyrinth, Matantei Loki Ragnarok, Shakugan no Shana, and Busou Renkin). Mainstream anime series like Naruto: Shippuuden and Pokemon are also airing more recent arcs (Shippuuden is approaching Pain's attack on Konoha while Pokemon is already advancing on the Emerald season).
Not to mention there's a cable channel here that focuses on dubbing anime series.

In Indonesia, everyone know about Pokemon, Dragonball, and Naruto (and Crayon Shin-chan maybe)
other than that, they don't know.... well, they refer Anime as cartoon so they don't like to watch it.... (damn..!!) Anime is only popular among geeks and only in some cities |

I'm the only one in my 2003 High school class that watches Dragon Ball Z back in the day. My 2003 class are into videogames from Square-enix and Atlus. That's all the further it got. I own 35 series and a few movies. If there was any magna, it would have been Ghost in the Shell (1995) or Akira (1988) movies. Nobody mentioned GitS when The Matrix came out. That's pretty much now i figure nobody into it. I remember asking about GitS and Serial Experiments Lain and ended up using the computer for proof of existence. I got reliable confirmation when I asked on facebook and I connected to 50% of my old class.

Start calling the shows they watch "American white trash porn" (e.g. Survivor) and "slasher snuff theater" "child rape porn" (e.g. Criminal Minds or L&O:SVU) or something appropriate ... seriously Joe Average should be damned glad I've never had this happen to me.

It's difficult to gauge around here. One the one hand, Otacon is easily within driving distance and there's a manga section in the book store. On the other hand, there's NO manga at the library and nobody in my classes knew what anime was until I mentioned Dragon Ball Z. Except for that one girl who was convinced that the Japanese version of Sailor Moon was porn.
