I didn't really expect to like it, but I so looove the second episode. I'm not sure why I didn't notice from the first episode, but the art direction and animation here is superb, and, not to mention, its gainax flavor is very much apparent and brought a dorky grin to my face. I hear a lot of complaints regarding the voiceacting here which surprises me honestly; the dub just doesn't sound as overacted as with most other animu.

After watching the first couple of episodes I'm not really sure yet how I feel about this series. It's good in a technical sense, which is to be expected coming from Gainax. The story itself so far seems to be fairly generic which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It might help if Makina were a little more interesting but they still have time to flesh out her character.
So at this point chalk another one up to "nothing special" but definitely watchable. |

For anyone who might be curious about Akiyama Nana (Makina), she guest-starred in Episodes 7 and 8 of the Shinigami no Ballad live-action series a couple of years ago, which is listed on the AnimeSuki main board:
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/996.html She plays a goodie-two-shoes class representative schoolgirl (named Tomato), which means she sounds completely different. I was surprised by how low she pitches her voice when she plays Makina, although on the other hand, her singing voice is fairly low, too - by female standards, anyway. |

There's a possibility that FUNimation already snagged it!
http://uk.youtube.com/user/FUNimation Look at the release schedule. It says that the first episode will premiere next week.

Not quite as "simultaneous release" as Strike Witches, BOST, etc were, but still pretty fast. What's up with all the "really subtle" licensing announcements lately? First ADV mentioning Clannad at SogenCon, with the whole blogosphere missing it, and now this. |

Anyone else have the frozen karaoke problem on Lunar's ep 2?
Just to add something to the post, Lunar seems to be doing a rather nice job making the video look pretty clean without losing the color and detail especially if they are using the easily gettable raws that keep popping up. So I gotta give them credit for the work they are doing on that. I think I'll check out TMD's release too since I don't think I've ever seen anything from them and it's always good to find new groups for future subs if their work turns out good. Also maybe it was not a miss of it, and just ignoring it? |

Shame FUNi aren't taking a leaf out of GONZO's book and letting people buy a download. YouTube is horrid i refuse to use it. They'd have been better of partnering up with BOST.
That said, anyone else notice that BOST seems to have been dropped by GONZO this season for some reason. Releases are only available on crunchy. Edit: It isn't licensed as of yet: Quote:

The Continuation of the Game
The second episode made me dense with how Ouri witnessed in live flesh what Shikabane really are.
Spoiler:
So far so good on how the writers are keeping up a distance between Makina and Ouri, so as not to be involved with each other too soon. Spoiler:
It isn't normal that the cat just addresses to Ouri, and he's able to hear what it says. Anyways, a pitiful fate for Hikaru. Spoiler:
As for Makina, the more I watched her fight the more I'm convinced that she's a sort of type between Saya from the Blood and Shana from the first Shakugan no Shana season. The sense I mean is that Makina is focused and business-like with her task on eliminating Shikabane, but also she can demonstrate a heart of humanity, judged at her amazed reaction when Ouri thanked her and learning from Keisei that Ouri is his brother. BTW, I do love equally both Beautiful Fighter and My Story as both the respective OP and ED themes for this series, since Angela interprets both songs. She has this magic to perform upbeat songs full of surging feelings and climatic tones. |

This show reminds me sooo much of Bleach, at this is how Bleach started...
"Boy meets strong girls" "Strong girl's duty is to kill monsters" "These monsters are born from people who have died" No matter how I see it, so far this is a Bleach clone, heck the monsters here just need to have a hole in their chest and their faces a bit white and they'll become Hollow clones since they're already very alike...
