I'm mad I didn't watch this while it was airing. I'm only on episode 2, but I'm loving it so far. Fun and endearing characters, great animation, and a classic story of high school grils banding together to achieve a goal to see penguins....what more can I ask for!

I just watched finished it as well. I don't know which part I resonated with more, the part where Megumi says that she realized that she was just always using Mari as a way to make herself feel like she was worth something, or the part where Yuzuki tries to make the other girls sign and contract--or to be more premise, what ensues as a result. Of course the fact that Mari felt like she was wasting her youth is also relatable.
I like the soundtrack and the ending song is very beautiful.

Not the most relevant list for most people, I presume, but regardless, it feels good to see this series getting more recognition, it certainly deserves it.

Wow, it's amazing that any anime show would make the NY Times list. Check out the company it's in.

Especially one that isn't by Shinkai or Ghibili.

I just finished watching this. I can't believe I totally missed out on this gem while it was airing. Maybe it's because I'm still on an emotional high, but I think this is my anime of the year. What an incredible journey, full of laughter and tears. The main four girls and even the side characters were so lovable (Shirase in particular).

I'm glad this was a success both critically and commercially. It's fully deserved.

My anime of the year is either this one or Violet Evergarden. Can't decide they are both superb.

Today the European Space Agency posted a photo from the 10-meter South Pole Telescope complex, showing... a light pillar! As seen in Sora Yori, only this one is a lunar light pillar, not a solar one.

Spoiler for Photo...:

With the live this series is getting, I wonder if we’ll get a spin-off showing Megu’s travels to the arctic. That looks like it’d be a worthy companion story to tell.

Megu never thrilled me very much, but such an idea would open the door to all kinds of other characters. It would depend on the circumstances of the trip. Ordinary tourists can go to the arctic, after all - but so do organizations like Students On Ice.

I still want to see a movie of all the stuff the girls shot for the project they were doing.

When you think anime pilgrimages you think Akihabra, Saitama, Oarai, or other places in Japan.

Well, someone just made a pilgrimage... to Antarctica.

Blog post with more details (in Japanese).

Not as much as you think. Apparently they spent nearly all their savings earned over 20 years for this trip.
