I just have to say that I have long stated that the Lakers and Yankees could field a crap team and people would still go out and watch them. This proves that KyoAni can make absolute crap, and still people will call them brilliant.
It took a lot of balls but KyoAni has proved their point brilliantly. |

Just finished watching the Mazui sub. I voted a 1 this morning, being pissed at the news (And because having such an overwhelmingly bad score looked fun), but now that I've actually watched the episode it's not as bad as I expected.
For starters, I really liked the art used in this episode. Haruhi was hotter than normal, Mikuru more adorable, and I thought Yuki's ragged, resigned, tired appearance (8:13, 17:50) was more effective this time around than it was in previous episodes. I've never seen her look so human before. Aesthetics aside, though, I'm just enjoying the ride in general. The almost complete lack of new stimuli makes for a very mellow experience, and I feel quite a bit closer to the S.O.S. Brigade somehow after sifting through this endless summer with them time and again. The most important thing, though, is that like Jintor pointed out, there are changes, and they're big enough to pacify me (Particular Kyon predicting Haruhi's message at the beginning). I was expecting a full-on repeat with no changes at all, but now that I've watched the episode, I get the impression that things are progressing, just at a very slow pace. That makes all the difference. If the rumor about Kadokawa stating this will be six episodes is true, with episode five showing some more concrete progression and episode six wrapping things up, then I won't have much of a problem with Endless Eights. I don't think it's worth devoting half the new episodes toward, and it's frustrating that some stories will probably get the axe thanks to this experiment, but taken on its own I'm enjoying this story arc. And yeah, the new Yuki music is... something else. Although... I really can't see myself watching these episodes again. XD They're fun novelties the first time, but I doubt I'll be marathoning Endless Eights anytime soon. |

Gainax doing Haruhi... I can't even imagine. That's a little too much peanut butter in my chocolate.
So my download of today's episode just finished, and in my haste to watch it I accidentally opened the AFK sub of LAST week's Endless Eight. I had a moment of "oh my God, it's exactly the same!?!!" before looking at the title bar and realizing my mistake. Upon opening the correct file, I had a moment of "oh my God, it's exactly the same!?!!" |

In fairness, it is indeed a better produced/drawn episode than the ugly mess that was the last episode yes. But shit is still shit even if dressed up and given meaningless symbolism.
Besides that, I'm in despair as every episode, Haruhi gets further and further off model. She's slowly transformed into a K-On character and the transformation is almost complete. Spoiler:

Who knows? Perhaps, it's a possibility o__O? Just a way too pissed 'cause I downloaded the episode in vain.... Who knows? We may be more pissed then than now; or a non-expected episode. Anyhow... It's on Haruhi's hands Last edited by k.jcat; 2009-07-09 at 22:38. Reason: Haruhi kill Kyo Ani!! |

You know... its strange... I think this is the most I've ever enjoyed posting and interacting with other viewers about a series.
I watched the last episode with my cousin and and was so interesting the discussion that came out of it. And while disappointed at first... I really started enjoying myself and laughing at all the posts that everyone has been making... In a strange way... this series of episodes has been the most fun I've had discussing an anime since participating in a discussion about Maison Ikkoku the first time I watched it. And before that the most fun discussions I had about an anime was... the first time I watched Haruhi Suzumiya and saw that awful first episode, and experienced the whole out of order viewing experience. Maybe I've transcended the simple pleasure of watching a good story and entered that Zen like state where you become part of the "Meta". Normally, I'm not like that, I like my shows to just have a good story, but I guess Haruhi is different. |

OK, I hate that the episodes have been pretty much spitting out the same thing for the past 3 episodes (and probably 1 more after that until the true ending 2 episodes later). However, the K-On!-ized drawing, different moments, and the plane the plane the plane episode was definitely a lot better than the last episode. I didn't hate this episode as much as the last one.
As for DVD's, if they have 1 DVD with the first 3 episodes, and the second DVD with the last 3 episodes (so beginning in one, and ending in the other DVD), their sales will not falter because people will still want the first episode of E8 and the last episode of E8. Either way, I can't wait until they get this over with. This has damaged KyonAni's image beyond belief in a time of economic downturn... Also, Kodokawa has been upsetting me with their antics for the past couple of years, so this is no surprise. If there is someone to blame, it is Kodokawa. They really need new leadership, or at least get their heads examined. As always, I will only show my friends the 1st, 2nd, and last episode of E8.

Speaking of K-On, we pointed out last week that all of the Episode and Animation Directors had their turn at one or more episodes of K-On, and this week is no exception. The combo from this week worked together in the same capacity on episodes 5 & 11 of K-On, and were both Key Animators for the K-On ED. Since they are doing these repeats regardless, I think it's at least interesting that they let the different teams experiment with different styles more freely than you normally would. I have to admit that I sort of like the theory that this is a sort of "proving ground" for the staff teams to try to outdo each other. (Again, in a sort of "if we have to do this anyway, let's at least make the most of it" sort of way.)

I was thinking, KyoAni is taking the same "radical" approach that Asakura did... By trolling the fanbase this much they're literally creating an explosion of data. |

I've never seen so many posts so fast. there were 4 pages before the show was even over.
Everyone is saying they wouldn't buy the DVDs of this, but don't you think this would be so much more interesting if they were played back to back? That would really give a feeling of an endless loop |
