AnimeSuki Choice Award Winners 2011
Welcome everyone to the announcement of the Winners of the 2011 AnimeSuki Choice Awards!First of all I'd like to thank felix and Sackett for helping me organize this year's Awards, especially felix who did a lot of the leg work and is responsible for the wonderful banners you see before you. Secondly, a big thank you to everyone who participated in these Awards. There were only 84 voters last year but this year saw that figure increase to an impressive 132 votes so well done everyone! Feel free to add any discussion or new suggestions in the results thread, but please try to keep it friendly and refrain from flaming winners that you didn't support. Final Results

Irony is a funny thing. I know I said this would be the year where I wouldn’t be disappointed with any winners, but instead it turned to be the most disappointing year for me yet. I think the biggest tragedy for me is the lack of Mawaru Penguindrum winning anything but I’m also disappointed that Redline and Hanasaku Iroha (and to a lesser extend Wandering Son) didn’t win anything either. Now as a Type-Moon fan, Carnival Phantasm was like sex to me, but I’d still rather see Colorful or Redline win. In the end only 6 of my votes and 4 of my first nominations won. Well at least Usagi Drop is there.
Well congrats to Steins;Gate and Madoka Magica for winning the most. More thoughts later.

Kind of surprised that only so few people have voted.
Other than that I found it confusing how some series were allowed to be nominated for multiple theme/specialised categories. I mean if it is already in Fantasy, then it should not be in Sci-Fi and Horror/Mystery as well. It should be just one of those. Kind of have to blame myself for not taking part during the nominations. However congratulations to all winners. |

With MadoMagi being my favorite anime of 2011, I'm glad to see it win the awards it did. It's also nice to see THE iDOLM@STER get it's little spot in the awards. |

Well, previous years didn't really attract more votes. In fact, even 2010 was even lower in attendance.
Anyway, this huge steamroll from Madoka and SG was sort of expected, although I was kinda surprised how both were so close in many categories to the point ties could happen. Can't help at this point, but this year result is a tad too heavily based on popularity than actual series own categories (I still can't consider madoka anything close to Mystery and Horror, for instance), which almost made me fear to a certain result (not going to go through another SG "romance" issue). The only complain I would express here is that the banners this year are... extremely cluttered. I see a lot of efforts were done in some picture selections etc, but it is a tad overboard. In retrospect, 2008 banners style would be the most clean and straight type of presentation, although some work can be done on text fonts, color hue etc. In essence, having bigger banner with 1 single picture (from the anime, instead of fan art) and a clean and clear label of the category and name of the series flow much better at checking the list.

Overall the results are pretty much in line with what I was expecting, even the Fate/Zero wins. But it's exactly the latter that irks me quite a bit since I still stand by my idea that split-cour series should be off-limits until the full run is over mostly because it's unfair to said shows with the occasional instance of being unfair to the other shows like Fate/Zero will most certainly prove to be come next year.
Also I hadn't heard the Ano Hana ED yet and it's truly an amazing track so good win there. Quote:

Unfortunately, it appears that not that many people have watched Redline. It's mostly word-of-mouth that did its work. While Fate/Zero have the fame of its parent franchise working in its favor.

Thinking about it I kind of wish Fate Zero wasn't eligible this time around because now it gets a chance to win twice & it pushed out other shows that only had this chance this year.

Just a little more and Homura would have won the Female Main category. Spoiler for sad Homu:
There must be something special in Kurise Makibe to be able to win. Got curious, must watch Steins Gate. Quote:
Was a bit worried when the voting started, so I visited almost every member of the IM@S social group asking for vote.

That's the only way I have to explain why it didn't at least win animation/visuals,I'd take Hanasaku Iroha over Fate/zero as well.

The number of voters is up 45% from last year so it's not like this was a bad year...
However, I didn't vote because it's way too early in the year for me to have completed watching enough of the nominations. In years past I would vote regardless of how few series I had seen. But now I don't want to make the mistake again of voting against a great series I haven't seen yet. |

I'm pleased with most of the winners, though I was really hoping that Sayaka Miki could pull out Female Supporting Character of 2011, but I guess the next best thing was her girlfriend winning it.
It looks like a plurality of voters considered Madoka Magica and Steins;Gate to be 1, 2 for 2011 (and in that order), and I agree completely with that, so I'm pleased by the overall success breakdown between them. Even though I liked Madoka Magica just a little bit more than Steins;Gate, I also felt that Okabe and Kurisu were the male and female anime characters of the year, so I'm very pleased with how Okabe and Kurisu managed to pull those out in spite of Madoka Magica dominating the series vs. series match-ups with Steins;Gate. So in the categories I cared the most about, I have few complaints. However, on a broader level, it is a bit disappointing that Mawaru Penguin Drum, Redline, and Hanasaku Iroha each won nothing. But ah well, these results are still mostly to my liking. I have to admit/concede that the genre category domination by just a series or two that I feared might happen, never really materialized. Madoka Magica won two specific genre categories (Fantasy and Mystery/Horror), and no other anime won more than one. Edit: Oh, and big thanks and kudos to the event organizers! The pictures chosen for each category (and its winner) were simply superb! In particular, I chuckled at violin-playing Kamijo showing up for Madoka Magica winning OST.

Although Madoka won most of the categories, I got to say I am still pleased with Steins;Gate results. S;G deserved all the categories it won. Especially with the main male character category.
