I'm no veteran but I don't think so. A gun is physics, not science. Yes, I know that doesn't make sense but in Academy City, things are different.

I remeber that Komoe is one of the seven misteries(not urban legends) of Academy City in the light novels.

Touma's actually definitely more likable when he's around Mikoto.

About science side, lately, Accelerator is getting bigger roles in the l.n. So, actually he is the face of the science side. If you want Mikoto with a bigger role, first she should be handicapped like Accelerator but I'm sure that this is never going to happen, so no bigger roles for Mikoto for now in To Aru majutsu no Index....... well, I(we) still have Railgun manga with Mikoto like the main character .

Yeah she just snapped there. I suppose the thought of anyone other than her seeing Mikoto strip was too much for her mind to handle. Had to purge the thoughts by forcefully knocking them out of her brain .

Regarding the first meeting with Mikoto and Touma I just wonder what she was waiting for? Sure she wasn't in any real danger, but yet there wasn't any real reason to let them keep talking on and on. Could have just scared them off or taken them down. Was she actually hoping someone would do what Touma did and step in there even though it'd be stupid to get involved for a stranger?

Well look at the Sisters arc. Mikoto was willing to sacrifice herself to save her clone imoutos.

Being considered one of the strongest she does not expect to be saved but rather she do the saving. (or beating)

Then comes this self righteous idiot who breaks her illusions that nobody is out there to protect her.

From that moment on Mikoto viewed Touma as her equal. Unfortunately for her, much to her frustration, Touma treats her like a kid.
