I didn't like his work in Heroic Age as much as Ryvuis and Scryed but it was a marked improvement over SEED, Fafner and SEED Destiny. Kurogane looks pretty decent so far but lets see how it looks in the actual show.

Hirai isn't any more guilty of copypasta character designs then about anyone else out there. I usually like them anyway. I'm also not a Gonzo hater, but I fear the worst for the CG after watching Dragonaut this season. Pretty horrible and just downright laughable quality at times. Otherwise though it sounds pretty good.

Oh FFS he does recycle, I like the guy and spent heaps of time defending him while SEED and SEED Destiny aired but to not say he doesn't recycle is absurd. If you don't think he didn't recycle for SEED, Fafner, Destiny especially in comparison to Ryvuis, Scryed and later on Heroic Age than book yourself in for an eye test please.

I like Akira Toriyama's style but I'm not going to pretend he doesn't recycle or does the same as everyone else like you two are doing for Hirai. Though admittedly he surprised me when the design of the main female for Dragon Quest Swords on the WII.

It's not airing until October and unless they state how many we won't know until the dvds are listed which will probably be sometime in November.

That's what happens when you let the artists off on their own to create stuff. I love Hisayuki's CF and Dendoh work but his original stuff is too same-y. A lot more visually appealing than Hirai but still same-y. The key difference between Hirai and Hisayuki though is that you can tell Hisayuki can draw beyond his similar character designs. Dendoh and CF prove that.

Anyway, I'm starting to read the manga for this. It looks rather interesting and I <3 mecha.

I don't know about that... True, CF and Dendoh are proof, but that's like saying Infinite Ryvius is proof for Hirai as well... was. It's been year since then, and both of them kinda placed themselves in their comfort zone for the past few years.

Using his most recent CF designs for the Road to Infinity III game as a parallel, the same-y feeling strikes.

Though one thing I like about both of them is their fashion designs.

I can't say I agree. Hirai's work in Infinite Ryvius still shows his regular style and isn't really the exception (being his first notable work also helps make it likeable) whereas CF and Dendoh are different from Hisayuki's regular work. I mean, if you look at Hisayuki's adaptation of Inomata and Yoshimatsu's original designs, they're far different than Hisayuki's race girl designs. It's particularly noticeable and easily contrasted in the DVD ending for CF Sin (released during Dendoh's TV run). Hisayuki's Dendoh II designs were pretty good too.

Looking through the cast/staff I'd like to note a few things.

The director so worked on Gundam X as a episode director, Gaogaigar, s-Cry-ed and Dendoh as a storyboarder besides directing Pokemon. Also theres another guy there who too worked as a director on Gundam X and S-cry-ed
