AICO's director, character designer and music composer all worked on 2013's Suisei no Gargantia.
Character designs are by hentai mangaka Naruko Hanaharu, who also designed Gargantia's characters. https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2654 The composer, Iwashiro Taro, also did the OSTs for 2 John Woo movies, Red Cliff (赤壁) and The Crossing (太平轮). He has a very distinct style, good for historical epic movies. Some samples from Red Cliff and The Crossing. |

Three episodes in.
Still decent but I feel like it's going a little too fast and cramming as much as possible in. At this point I'd rather that they took a step back and allowed us to be more familiar with the setting because there's a lot I don't quite understand as much as I'd like. It would also give us more chance to appreciate the characters. It's nice that they're generally devoid of cliches and tropes but then that might be because they're devoid of a lot characterisation in general.

Five episodes in.
Good stuff so far. They've expanded more on the setting and the political situation and gave us a breather episode to focus on the characters as well. I have a better grip on both now but it still feels like they've been sparse on the world building. Spoiler for plot details - not really spoilers:
A lot of the side characters still feel a little flat, though that's to be expected when you introduce a such a large cast right off the bat. I still appreciate the fact that the show has avoided creating excessive tropey caricatures. Apart from one side character all of them are pretty down to earth and focused on the matter at hand (excuse the pun).
