That was unbelievably close. I can't believe that we actually managed to run fast enough to reach the relative safety of the CSDB building. We should be safe here as no sane person would willingly come here unless they're on official business or are members of the CSDB themselves. As usual, Tais got into trouble again, this time from just returning a book.

We were lazing around after completing yet another round of tests as it seems like Director Tsuzuki is still trying to reproduce the body switching effect. Out of the blue, Tais suddenly remember that the book he borrowed from the Infinite Library was about to be overdue and he decide to go return it. Taking the teleporter to the Main Office where the library is, we made it there mostly without incidents except Tais got splashed with a bucket of water near the teleport arrays. Anyway except for being a bit damp, we got to Professor Scrya.

Tais: Hello? Professor Scrya?
Yuuno: Oh hi, Tais. I've been wondering where have you been. Listen, about the book I loan you last time...
Tais: I have it here Professor.
Yuuno: Oh you do? That's great. I gave you the wrong copy by mistake. Sorry about that.
Tais: Really? Hmm... the wrong book? Maybe that's why Major Nakajima wanted to kill me.
Yuuno: You were almost killed?
Tais: Huh? Professor, why do you said I was almost killed?
Yuuno: Didn't you just say...
Yui: Please forgive my interruption but Tais always thinks out loud. Please feel free to ignore any weird things he says.

Tais & Yui: Unfortunately yes.
Verossa: You have my sympathies.
Tais: Well, it isn't that bad. He calmed down a bit ever since he got a steady girlfriend.
Verossa: I pity the poor girl. Who is dumb enough to agree to be his girlfriend anyway?
Yui: Someone by the name of Kashiwagi Makoto.
Yuuno: Rossa, what's wrong? Why are you so pale all of a sudden after hearing that name?

Yuuno: Anyway, we're going way off topic. What's the other term Tais?
Tais: Yanmama.
Verossa: Interesting, never heard that before. What does it mean anyway?
Yuuno: Well its kind of a derogatory term to refer to a woman. It more or less mean delinquent mother.
Tais: Huh?
Yuuno: Let me put it this way. A Yanmama is a someone who is female and used to do bad stuff. Someone who is blond, young and has kids. Someone who is...Fate?!

When Yuuno sensei blurted out the word Fate, I suddenly knew that Tais's bad luck has struck. Unfortunately the 2 morons don't seems to realize that danger is just behind us as they continue their conversation.

Tais: Fate? Do you mean Enforcer T. Harlaown, Sensei? But she doesn't fit the description you mention just now. She doesn't have kids nor does she have a bad background.
Verossa: Tais my new friend. Technically she doesn't have kids but she did adopt a few and she was involved in a certain incident that is classified but the main point is that she was a bad girl. So yanmama can be used to describe her if you loosen the definition a bit.
Tais: Oh ok, thanks for enlightening me Yuuno sensei.
Verossa: But seriously sensei, calling your own friend a yanmama just to demonstrate the meaning. What would she say if she heard you?
???: She would simply say Bardiche, load cartridge.

~Log Number #800 : Attack of the Black Witch - Continuation~

Tais and Verossa turned around and saw a cute little girl which look and sound exactly like Enforcer T. Harlaown, wielding Bardiche Assult in Zamber form. Instinct commanded them to run and like sensible people, they obeyed, leaving Professor Scrya behind. Fortunately, the little girl did not give chase... yet. Unfortunately, whilst the two are running towards the exit, my audio senors manage to capture information that the cute little girl was in fact Enforcer T. Harlaown herself and she is not amused at the trio calling her a yanmama. Seems like she's a victim of some kind of beverage which "chibi-fied" her. Judging from the screams of pain from Professor Scrya, it also seems like she's in an extremely bad mood.

A few seconds later, she started giving chase to the duo. Luckily the two have longer legs and could ran faster, but the bad news is that she seemed to be utilizing some sort of speed enhancement which allowed her to slowly catch up. If it was any other situation, she would be terribly cute in that barrier jacket of hers but now, she is simply terrifying.

At this stage, it was every man for himself as shown by Inspector Acous. He told us that the best way to escape a predator is not to run faster than the predator but to ran faster than the guy beside you. Finishing this statement, he shoved Tais into a group of people, ran off in another direction and taunted us by saying:"Have fun with the yanmama".

The shove sent Tais crashing into a woman with 5 "kids", knocking them both down with his face planted in her huge assets. As Tais tries to get up, he suddenly plants his face back in that valley, narrowly avoiding a sword strike to his head. Quickly grabbing the woman and rolling to the side to avoid another enraged sword strike that would have cleaved him in half, Tais picked up the woman and ran again.

???: Hey! That person has got okaa-sama!! Get him!!
All: Get that Hentai!!
Woman: Put me down you pervert!!
Tais: I'm sorry ma'am but please bare with this for a while. Stopping is too dangerous for me right now.
Woman: I said put me down!! (sound of fists hitting Tais)
Tais: Please stop hitting me. Its not my fault!! I didn't mean to crash into you, nor did I mean to call Enforcer Harlaown a yanmama.
Fate: Tais you bastard!! Stop calling me a yanmama!!
???: And put haha-ue down you sukebe!!
Fate: You asked for it!!
Bardiche: [Plasma Lancer]
Tais: Yikes!!

Dodging the projectiles, Tais quickly turned into another corridor and crash into yet another group. Dropping the woman and quickly getting to his feet, he started running again. This turns out to be a minor blessing as it distracted the 5 "kids" temporarily, allowing Tais to gain some distance from them and Enforcer Harlaown.

Mabiko: Cressida.
Cressida: Since your familiars are not around, CHANCE!!
???: Dream on!
Mabiko: Leticia-chan.
Cressida: Che... foiled again.

Leticia: He ran down that way. Erika, Mikoto, Yuuki, you three go catch that hentai. Feena and I will protect Okaa-sama.

The situation is getting worse. Directing Tais down the corridor to the teleport arrays, we soon encountered Investigator Acous again, who was catching his breath. Upon seeing Tais still fleeing, he too quickly ran. This time I was keeping my sensors on him since he proven that he will do anything to save his own skin. As we are approaching another junction, we heard voices approaching. Predictably, Investigator Acous tried to shove Tais but this time I was ready for his tricks. Before he could reach us, I suddenly told Tais to stop and bow which he did. Recognizing one of the voices as Lady Carim, I quickly greeted her but her reply was interrupted by Investigator Acous who had committed to his action of trying to shove Tais. Due to Tais sudden stop and bow, he was sent flying straight towards the Lady. Luckily, Lady Carim had a briefcase held in front of her which Investigator Acous hit face first.

Excusing ourselves, Tais left just before Enforcer Harlaown arrived. Since he was still dazed by the impact, there was no chance for Investigator Acous to escape. His screams were long and terrible but frankly speaking, I think he deserved it. However, we'll still remember his "heroic sacrifice" which prolonged our chances for survival. Racing down the corridors, we soon caught sight of our goal, the teleport arrays. Pushing himself harder, Tais managed to put forth another burst of speed but disaster struck.

Remember Tais getting splashed earlier? Well, it turns out there was a patch of floor that was still slightly damp and Tais slipped and slided like a baseball player toward the arrays. Normally this wouldn't be a problem as we are too near our goal and the pursuers are too far. As it so happens, a group of two guys and a girl in black between them just teleported in and it looks like we're about to crash into people again. Fortunately for all involved except for the pursuers, the two guys have great reflexes. Despite having no room to dodge, they pressed themselves against the walls of the narrow corridor and lifted the girl up, allowing us to slide pass underneath. That pervert Tais actually has the gall to mutter black which I assume was the colour of her undergarments as we pass by. Yelling apologies, while quickly activating the teleport array, we managed to escape and reach the CSDB.

Tais: Hey Yui, stop writing in your log and look at this.
Yui: I don't believe you. You just escaped hell and now you're surfing the web? I'd thought you'll be praying and thanking the God Empress for surviving.
Tais: I did. Its just that you took too long to write the log file.
Yui: I haven't completed it yet. Do whatever you want and let me complete it.

~Resume log~

Stupid Tais, interrupting me just to look at some plain black online counseling site about removing the sorrow of whoever's name is entered. Knowing that stupid guy, he would probably enter his own name and talk the ear off the counselor. Better end this log here before he gets into more trouble. I don't need another homicidal person after us due to his stupidity.

Someone who can fight evenly with Testarossa in close combat can hardly be considered unworthy.” She readied her stance. “I’m not going to hold back, Dauer. So I suggest you do the same. Go ahead and use everything you have.”

“Hmph.”

I raised Tyrfing and assumed my own battle-stance. “I’m not holding back. I’m just concentrating on Tyrfing right now and nothing else.” I gave her an amused smirk. “Please don’t be too worried about my welfare, Signum. Though I never expected you to be ever this concerned for me, I’m touched.”

She gave me a light smile in return. “You assume too much. Who would be overly concerned over a person such as you? Or are you trying to psych me out before the fight?”

“Saa, nandarou?”

Signum made the first move, charging straight at me. What the-

Our swords clashed for the first time, pushing evenly against each other. With a snarl, Signum sent her scabbard straight towards my face. I blocked her strike with my left arm and aimed a kick at her stomach. Just when my kick connected, I felt something strike my face, or rather the protection of my face. She kicked me as well! I was flung away by the force of the blow just as Signum was drove backwards by my attack.

“Che. Not bad for a first exchange, huh, Sig-WHOA!”

Laevatein almost struck my head. Luckily, I was able to dodge her strike and struck out with my own blade. She jumped back and took a stance.

“Sorry. But I have no time to listen to your rants. Take this fight seriously, or I shall…”

She finished her sentence telepathically. ‘cut you down.’

She’s serious? Wait, what’s going on?

“Here I come, Aurion Dauer!”

‘Watching them train below reminded me of the days when we were all aboard the Asura. There was never enough space to do what we wanted so we ended up improvising, just like what these kids are doing. Well, not really kids. I wonder how everyone is doing. It’s been awhile since Chrono or any of the other enforcers aboard the Asura have been back to HQ. Then again, Chrono’s an Admiral now and the others are probably stuck in staff jobs now.’

“Sir, we’ve finished up our final training session for this week. Is there anything else to be done today?” Isamu’s voice shook me out of my memories.

“No, that’s all for today”. They saluted, snapping to attention, “Spellblades, you’ve earned yourselves 2 days of rest. Enjoy yourselves.” I returned their salute and they filed out of the complex, excited about their unexpected leave.

“Hey, wanna go see a movie later?”

“Hmm, what’s on?”

Their voices grew fainter as they moved further away. Nothing’s changed much in the last 10 years. ‘I would have trained in this very room at some point.’ Looking around the room, memories of those times came back to him. Although the walls betrayed no signs of any accidents, he knew that many had occurred. In fact he and the rest of the team had punched holes into the walls at various times throughout training. One incident had been so bad that they had been banned from training for a week and when they had been allowed back, only the very basics could be used within the compound for another 2 months. As I walked through the doors, triggering the locks I opened a communications channel back to base. “William, could you confirm that the 108th are still able to skirmish with us next week.”

“Yes, sir. Is there anything else needed for the exercise?”

“Just resubmit our forms to HQ regarding the training. I don’t want to arrive next week and get stopped during the exercise because they think it hasn’t been cleared.”

“Understood, have a good weekend sir.”

“Thanks, you too.”

Beep…. Beep….Beep….

‘Bloody hell.’ Glancing over at the wall, I could just make out the arms of the clock. 3 o’clock. ‘This better be good.’ Reaching out, I activated the communications array.

“Sorry for waking you captain, but we won’t be able to meet our commitment next week. A sudden fire has started on AW42, we’ve been asked to help evacuate the population in the fires path and to help fight the blaze.”

“Do you need any assistance?”

“Not at this moment. Regardless, if we do another ground battalion will be sent to reinforce us. We can’t afford to have enforcer’s involved in disaster relief, not at this time.”

“All right, I’ll see you when you get back then.” The screen glowed blue, its harsh light casting shadows throughout the room. Shit, what the hell am I going to do about Tuesday’s exercise? Bringing up the list of units stationed nearby, I began to search. This is not the start to the day that I was hoping for….

‘Gah. This is hopeless. Looks like I’ll have to re-schedule the exercise for another time.’
The sun’s rays shone through the window piercing the display. I rose stiffly from my chair, stretching out. Moving towards the kitchen, I pulled the screens across letting the light of the sun warm the room. The toll of my abnormal awakening and the work I’ve done since then was starting to kick in. ‘Maybe I’ll just take a short nap…’

The sun was setting in the distance. I wiped the sweat off my forehead, stopping to watch it’s descent, disappearing from us for another day. It had been a tough day but they were making progress. Meia, Juliet and I had been able to hold out against the rest of the squad attacking simultaneously for one barrage. Their second had punched through their shields though, leaving a 3 metre hole in the room’s wall.

“Oy Myr, you coming. We’re all heading down to KK’s to get a drink and some food.”

“Yeah, sounds good. One round of drinks on me. We did a good job today!”

Ding Dong.

“Woot!! Thanks Myr!”

‘Huh, where am I?’ Light flickered around me, the yellow of the sun combining with reflections from within my apartment. I slowly got up, legs weak. ‘Looks like I fell asleep.’

Ding Dong.

It finally registered in my mind that someone was at the door. “Coming, just a sec.”

Activating the controls I checked the door camera. Meia was waiting outside. As I opened the door remotely, time in the bottom corner of the display caught my eye. 1522. ‘Holy crap I was out for that long.’

“Myr, you feeling okay? I tried calling before to see if you wanted to go somewhere for lunch but you didn’t answer any of my calls.”

“Yeah, I’m fine now. Had a rough morning. Did you want anything to eat or drink. I’m just having lunch now.”

“Just some water thanks, had lunch on the way here. I’ll help you cook, you don’t look too good.”

“Thanks a lot, I owe you one.”

“So the 108th have been called away and you need to find another group for the skirmish?”

“Yep. Only problem is none of the units who would give the Blades a challenge have time next week.”

“Hmm, that is a problem….” Meia began scrolling through the unit list. “Hey I haven’t seen this one before. Myr have you heard of them? Mobile Division 6.”

“They’re a new unit, recently got formed to go after Lost Logia. That’s all I know of them.”

“Lost Logia ka….” Data flew across the screen as she looked for the squad composition.

I sighed, “Looks like we’ll have to put the exercise off until the 108th get back.”

Pointing at the screen, “Maybe not, these guys look like they’ll prove a challenge” Meia said.

Rotating the screen around, I quickly skimmed over the info. “4 mages of B rank? How are they supposed to be a challenge?” I asked.

“Mou…” I knew that look… It always appeared when I had just done or was about to do something stupid. “Read the data carefully and tell me who’s in charge.” She reached out and tapped the screen, changing what was displayed.

Looking back at the display it suddenly hit me. “Lightning One, Fate Tesstarossa Halaown.”

“Not only that, the commander of the unit is Yagami Hayate, while the commander of the other squad is the..”

“..Ace of Aces, Takamachi Nanoha,” I finished. “This is incredible, she even managed to get all of her knights into the unit as well.”

“It’ll be a good challenge for them. Their ranking might be lower than the Blades, but they’ve been training under the best that we have. Who knows what sort of tricks they have up their sleeves. If they’re worried, just let one of the aces join in. Come on Myr, this is the best bet on getting this exercise done this week.”

She stopped suddenly and looked at me. I suddenly became very afraid of what she was about to say next. Her expression was just that evil.

“Plus this is a perfect chance to see Fate again. Who know maybe she still remembers us. ”

‘Phew safe..’

“Just make sure you don’t tell her that you had a crush on her when we were working with her, damm loli-con.” She grinned, laughing out loud.

Now that’s just going too far…. I exploded, raising my voice, “I didn’t have a crush on her!!”

“Sure you didn’t…” She rolled her eyes and continued, “What was with the ‘I will protect you speech on AW 22 then, huh?”

“Whatever, you’re just jealous that I get to see Fate again but you don’t get to see Chrono.” I retorted. ‘This will shut her up.’

Turning away from me, her cheeks turned red.

“Oho, what’s this? A blush…” I grinned at her, laughing in my mind at her discomfort. Holding out my hand I said, “Seriously though, truce?”

She turned back to face me, “Truce. Let’s call them now and make sure they’re free.”

“Yep. Thanks Meia.”

“No problem boss.”

Some feedback would be nice... I'm not used to writing how I wrote this chapter...

Memories of days long past is a nice theme here, and seems like Spellblades like to challenge MD6 soon... And Meia having a crush on Chrono?!?!?!

Location: Aboard the RAF Patrol Ship Delphinus
Time: 0600 MST

Mel padded along the deck of the Delphinus as she left her cabin to head down to the showers to clean up and prepare for the day ahead – the Phantasms was set to spend most of the next three days training with the forwards of MD6. As she moved through the kitchen, she passed Boomer, who was in the middle of making breakfast for the foursome.

“Morning!”

“And a good morning to you too, missy. Ready for an Earth-style breakfast?”

“You bet! I can’t wait to see what passes for food on Earth.”

“Well, you’ll know soon enough.”

Mel glanced around. “Where’s Shosa?”

“The major got called down to HQ again – looks like he’ll be there for the next few days, while we train MD6’s people.”

“So, if Shosa’s gone, then that means-”

“Yep, Arcas’ll be in charge of the training.”

“Is that such a wise thing? I’ve seen him train personally, and he can be fairly hard on himself.”

“Don’t worry, missy.” Boomer reassured the concerned knight. “Arcas was an Instructor for a few months at the beginning of his career. I’m sure he’ll be cautious enough. Speaking of Arcas, where is our fearless leader?”

“Still in bed,” Mel stated. “I’ve decided to give him until I’m ready for breakfast for him to drag his lazy self out of bed.”

“Generous of you,” Boomer stated with unmasked sarcasm.

Mel glared at Boomer and promptly headed off for the shower. She came back a few minutes later, cleaned up and wearing her usual attire: a one-piece azure dress that came down to her ankles. Boomer looked at the girl and shook his head.

“What?” Mel huffed.

“Nothing – it’s just that you’ve got a closet crammed with clothes, and yet you still choose to wear that almost every other day.”

“It’s comfortable, and has good mobility,” she replied, twirling around slowly. “It feels right.”

“Whatever. Off to wake Arcas?”

“Uh-huh.” And with that, she left the kitchen.

Down in Arcas’ cabin, the Phantasm XO was currently buried under a pile of pillows and blankets, sleeping. But that all changed when Mel came in and yanked the blankets off the bed, exposing a half-naked Arcas.

“Come on, Arcas,” she spoke sweetly, tugging on the shirt he was wearing, “time to get up.”

Arcas batted her hand away and mumbled something into the pillow he was currently holding.

“What was that?”

“I said, just five more minutes.”

Mel sighed, placing her hands on her hips.

“None of that now, Arcas. We’ve got a big day ahead of us, and we’re supposed to be leaving for MD6’s training field in-” she glanced at the clock “-half an hour.”

“So I’ve still got time.” He countered.

“You know, if you didn’t stay up until one or two in the morning every night, you wouldn’t be having these problems.”

“The Aces can do it.”

“No one’s asking you to be like the Aces!”

“No one except me.”

Mel groaned. “Fine. But don’t expect me to feel sorry for you when you’ve gotta do your usual Morning Rush.” With that, she turned to leave the cabin, and returned to the kitchen, where food was waiting for her on the table.

“Serve yourself.”

“Thanks, Boomer.”

She took some food from the plates, and sat down at the table. The sniper and swordswoman sat like that for a few minutes, eating in silence.

“So, it didn’t work, huh?”

“Of course not,” Mel frowned, eating a forkful of scrambled eggs. “I swear, he’s so stubborn about his sleep; yet, this whole problem of his would just go away if he decided to get a proper amount of rest.”

Boomer shrugged. “People are people – and it takes something huge to change a person’s habits.”

“Stop defending him! You wouldn’t say that if YOU were the one who had to deal with him every morning!”

“Whatever.”


In his cabin, Arcas turned over in his bed, trying to go back to sleep.

Why does Mel have to do this to me EVERY SINGLE DAY?! I’m perfectly happy asleep, and then she comes in and wakes me up, and now I can’t get back to sleep. And the worst part is that it does nothing for me; I can’t get back to sleep, but it doesn’t inspire me to get out of bed either! The Phantasm XO groaned and rolled over, his eye opening just a hair to look at the clock.


“How soon is it?”

“Just another minute or so.”




Arcas’ mind registered the time on the clock: 0623 MST. Mel came in at about 0610, and said that we had to leave for the training field in about half an hour.



“Three…”

WHY does this happen EVERY MORNING?!



“One.”

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I’M LATE!”

With that, Arcas came through the doorway of the kitchen as blazing speed, towel flapping in the air behind him.

“AAAND HE’S OFF!” Boomer dramatically announced. Mel rolled her eyes and got up from the table.

“I’ll get his clothes…”

“…and I’ll fix him a plate. Heaven knows he’ll need it.”

While Boomer got Arcas’ food ready, Mel returned to his cabin and pulled out a fresh set of clothes for him. She then proceeded down to the lower deck, where the infirmary and showers were located.

Doing this every morning, waking him up, bringing him his clothes… it almost feels like I’m Arcas’… wife… Mel blushed a deep red as the thought passed through her head, along with the familiar warm fuzzies that she got WHENEVER she thought about herself and Arcas. She shook the thought from her head, and returned to the kitchen.

A few minutes later, Arcas emerged from the shower, and saw the clothes lying out from him. Mel again, he thought as he toweled dry, why’s she keep doing this for me? Most of the other girls I knew did this for a week and when they realized that I wasn’t going to be changing anytime soon, dropped it like a hot potato. But she’s been doing it EVERY DAY for almost two years. Arcas sighed. I shouldn’t be complaining, though…

With that, he proceeded to the kitchen, where breakfast was waiting. Arcas cocked his head at seeing the plate of food sitting out for him.

“What’s with this? Usually you guys make me fix my own food.”

Boomer answered. “We’re going to be training for most of the day – so you’ll need a proper breakfast if you’re to keep going – but don’t expect it to happen TOO often.”

“Right.”

Arcas cleaned the food off his plate, and then the three Phantasms left for training.



Location: Mobile Division 6 Virtual Training Field
Time: 0655 MST

The Stars and Lightning forwards were all lined up, ready for morning training with the RAF. Subaru was especially pumped – she would finally get to see Esperacchius, the legendary Device, in action.

“This is going to be SO COOL!”

“Geez, Subaru, don’t get so hyper,” Teana growled. “It’s not like they’re Gods or anything.”

“But we get to train with an ACTUAL UNIT! One with plenty of experience!”

As the pair spoke back and forth, Nanoha, Vita, and Fate came up to the forwards. The trio looked around, and not seeing the 82nd, asked Caro and Erio if either of them had seen the RAF mages.

“No, we’ve not…” Erio began.

“And we’ve been here for almost half and hour,” Caro continued. “Are they really coming?”

“If they know what’s good for them…” Vita growled.

Not long after, the Phantasms came running out to the field.

“Sorry we’re late…” Mel began.

“We were unavoidably delayed,” Arcas explained.

That earned the XO nasty looks from both Boomer and Mel.

“Anyway, let’s get started!”



The Phantasms took the field, speaking to Nanoha over the comm line.

“Nanoha, can you put us in an urban setting? And generate twenty AA ranked mages for us.”

Nanoha’s hand swept over the controls, making the adjustments. “Any particular way you want them set up?”

Boomer spoke. “Just spread them out over the area – don’t bunch them up.”

Nanoha made the changes, and paused. “All ready – just say the word.”

Arcas looked at his comrades. “All right – let’s go.”

Boomer was the first to speak. “Elsior, set up!” The bullet on the end of the chain glowed, and began to move down the chain to Boomer’s body, which was engulfed by the bright light. When it faded, Boomer stood there in urban camouflage fatigues, the staff in his right hand.

Next came Mel. “Give hope to the people! Esperacchius, set up!” The Velkan rune for “Hope” gave off a chime, and Mel was surrounded a multitude of swirling “Hope” runes. When it stopped, Mel was clad in her green armor, with Esperacchius held in her right hand.

Finally, Arcas. “For Honor and Courage! Ascalon, set up!” Arcas disappeared in a column of fire – when is disappeared, Arcas was wearing his Knight Armor, a black turtleneck and pants, along with a long red coat. Ascalon was in his left hand.

Now prepared, Arcas spoke the word. “GO!”

With that, combat began.

Five mages opened fire from the rooftops, attacking the Phantasms. The three took off into the air immediately, evading the blasts.

Mel shouted to Arcas. “We need to find some cover so we can get set!”

“Agreed! Boomer! See any cover?”

“Just a moment! Elsior!”

[Eagle Eye.], the device spoke.

“Arcas, there’s available cover at your two o’clock – a skyscraper.”

“Copy that, Boomer. Mel! You get that?”

“Loud and clear.”

The three streaked towards the building, and rocketed to the top, still evading fire from the mages. Once at the roof, the three touched down, using the building’s height for cover.

“Okay, everyone here?” Arcas counted heads. “Three. We’re all here. Okay, people, time for a plan. Any ideas?”

“Way I see it, we’ve got two options.” Boomer began, “One: I stay here and snipe as many as I can, move when they get here, and the two of you clean up the rest. Two: One of you stays here to beat off any would-be interruptors, and the other goes out for clean-up.”

“Sound solid. Mel, what do you think?”

“I think… we should go with plan #1.”

“That’s what your gut is telling you?”

“Yes.”

“Alright then, that’s what we’ll do. Boomer, once you’re off the building, I want you to keep firing. Understood?”

“Yeah.”

“Mel?”

“Ready when you are.”

“Boomer, if you’d do us the honors of taking the first shot,” Arcas stated.

Boomer moved to the edge of the building, and hefted Elsior. The elliptical head opened, ready to fire.

“All right, pal. Let’s give ‘em something to be scared of, yes?”

[Yes, Boss.]

“Elsior! Shooting Star!”

Elsior ejected the cartridge from its ten-round magazine and fired the cobalt blue beam of energy. It screamed out of the device and struck a mage about halfway across the city, derezzing the virtual target.

“Go!”

With that, Mel and Arcas took off, flying west across the city. Four mages spotted the pair of knights and took to the air, trailing them. As they closed in, they began hurl spells at the pair.

“Mel, keep going! I’ve got these ones!”

“Understood.”

With that, Arcas whipped around, facing his pursuers. Seeing a target present itself, the quartet focused their attacks on Arcas, unleashing three beams of light. “Ascalon!”

[Fortress,] the Armed Device intoned, setting up a shield in front of him, which intercepted one beam while the other two blew by him, missing completely. As the mages positioned themselves for another round of fire, Arcas decided to surprise them.

“Burn with the fire of a thousand hells!” [Dragon’s Fire!] The Velkan triangle appeared before him, and out of it came a stream of fire which incinerated one target, and grazed another, wounding it. The mages pulled back, realizing their opponent could attack at mid-range. Arcas chased after them. He closed with the two untouched mages, hoping to take them out before their injured comrade could rejoin the fight. He swung Ascalon in both hands, from right to left; one mage, however, had the presence of mind to put up a shield. Arcas gritted his teeth.

“Pierce through, Ascalon! Dual Load!”

[Dragon’s Fang.] Ascalon ejected one cartridge, then another, and the attack sliced through the shield and the target behind it, derezzing them both. As Arcas turned to deal with the two remaining targets, he saw that another mage had joined the fight. Arcas mentally groaned. Three to one. I hope Mel’s doing better than I am…



Across the field, Mel had problems of her own. She had run into an ambush of seven mages, and though she’d managed to take out four of them, the remaining three were putting up a hell of a fight, and reinforcements weren’t but a minute away. Come on, Mel, THINK! Come up with a plan so you can beat these guys before they trap you between them and the guys on their way. Wait a minute… TRAP! PINCER! THAT’S IT! Mel moved quickly from her cover to a fairly large room in the building that she was in. Then, she simply waited until the attackers came. The three surviving ambushers attacked from one direction, while four mages came from the opposite. Mel immediately set her plan into action. “Esperacchius!”

[Ace Guard.] The Armed Device ejected two cartridges and an omnidirectional shield surrounded Mel. The seven mages rained attacks upon it, but it refused to go down. Deciding it was safe to get closer, the mages came within staff’s reach of the shield, and prepared to attack as one. But Mel acted first. “Cross of the God-Empress! Be my sword, and strike now!” [Grand Cross.] Esperacchius ejected two MORE cartridges, and Ace Guard disappeared, only for an enormous glowing cross to appear under the feet of all in the room. The cross shone with a brilliant light, derezzing three of the seven mages, and providing Mel with enough time to use Saint Saber to dispatch the other four.

All in a day’s work, she giggled. Now to go see who needs help…



On top of the skyscraper, Boomer had seen the three mages headed towards Arcas, and decided to give the young knight some help, and had taken out two of the three with Arc Sniper. Just as he was about to snipe number three however, Elsior spoke.

[Force Shield.] Elsior’s auto-guard magic deployed as three rapid attack shots slammed against the barrier generated by the Intelligent Device. Boomer whipped his head around to see the attack had come from his seven o’clock. “Elsior! Give me some cover!” [Sniper Cover,] the Device intoned, and both Boomer and Elsior disappeared from the mage’s sight.

Puzzled, the mage flew to the skyscraper and looked around for the missing Boomer, only to find that he had fallen into a trap. Boomer and several Arc Shooter projectiles materialized out of thin air, surrounding the hapless mage. As the mage drew in a breath to speak, Boomer directed the five shots through the mages’ torso, derezzing him.

Boomer grinned. Nothing to it… now to get back to helping Arcas.



Arcas was having significant trouble dealing with the last three targets. They had set up in a triangle formation around him, and were raining constant attacks on his own Ace Guard, which was holding comfortably, but it meant Arcas’ wouldn’t be attacking anytime soon. Gotta find an opening… I can’t rely on Mel or Boomer to solve my problems for me. Watching the pattern of attacks, Arcas spotted a break. He waited until the pattern cycled back around, and when the break came, he dropped Ace Guard and unleashed his spell. “Back off!” [Riot Edge.] Ejecting a cartridge, Ascalon’s blade shone with a silvery light, and Arcas made a full circle, sending a wave of energy against the attackers. The spell derezzed the injured mage, as well as one who’d strayed too close to Arcas. The one left however, was stunned only for a moment. But in that moment, Arcas acted.

“I am the enemy of the dragon!” [Dragon’s Bane.] Ascalon ejected two cartridges, and Arcas shouted a war cry, slashing the last target twice, right to left, and then left to right. The attack derezzed the mage, and ended the scenario.

The trio flew back to where Nanoha and the others were waiting. As they landed, the assembled Division 6 mages could hear the banter being exchanged between the three.

“…were in real trouble there, Arcas-kun…”

“Yeah, I thought that I might have to use Hyper Cannon to save you!”

“You wish, Boomer! I didn’t get to be S ranked for nothing, you know!”

The trio then faced Nanoha. “So,” Boomer asked, “how’d we do?”

“See for yourself,” Nanoha replied, and brought up the post-scenario statistics.

“00:18:47 to take out twenty AA rank mages – about one a minute – that’s pretty good, even for us.”

“Yeah, but you took out over half the targets, Mel.” Arcas sighed. “Just HOW do you do that?”

“Luck and skill, Arcas, luck and skill.”

“Oi, Arcas, you used up almost an entire cartridge load – need to watch how you use those – they don’t grow on trees, you know.”

“I only used as many cartridges as I needed to – no more, no less.”

“Oh, is that like your ‘never late, never early, exactly when needed’ statement you made?” Boomer replied sarcastically.

“Shut up, Boomer,” Arcas retorted.

“Anything else before you start training with the forwards?” Fate asked.

“Just one. Nanoha, could you set up the Force Test?” Arcas asked, swapping his almost-empty cartridge tube for a new one. [Reload.]

“Sure, just give me a moment.”

With that, Arcas headed out to the field alone. Fate looked at the other Phantasms. “Do either of you wish to join him?”

“Nah,” Boomer replied, “I’m not worried about my Hyper Cannon. How about you, Mel?”

Mel shook her head. “My spell has sufficient strength for now.”

Subaru was confused. “What’s going on?”

“You’re about to see the true strength of Ascalon,” Vita said. “Watch carefully.”

Arcas stood alone on the field, when before him appeared a sea of Round Shields.

“Whenever you’re ready, Arcas.”

He nodded, and then raised his Device. “Ascalon, slay the dragon.” [Dragon Slayer Mode.] With that, Ascalon ejected two cartridges and assumed its Full Drive Form. The obsidian blade glowed and stretched out two feet; a hand guard extended out at the base of the blade, where two small parts of the main blade attached themselves, and slid back, forming an acute angle with Ascalon’s hilt.

“Ascalon, give me the power of that which I hunt.” [Dragon’s Fury.] A red aura surrounded Arcas as Ascalon ejected two more cartridges. Arcas swapped his current cartridge tube for a full one, and wasted no time in giving the incantation for Ascalon’s most feared spell.

“Across the worlds, across the galaxy, I hunt and kill the dragons of Injustice and Tyranny. It is a war I fight, an endless war. But, it is my mission, my CRUSADE!”

[CRUSADE.] Ascalon ejected its entire cartridge load, it's blade blazing with brilliant light, and Arcas repeated the moves he had made with Dragon’s Bane, only this time, waves of energy came off Ascalon’s horizontal slashes. And finally, Arcas swung his Device in an overhead slash, and brought it slamming down onto the ground, where a cone of energy expanded upon impact, decimating all the shields in its path.

Vents opened in Ascalon, expelling enormous amounts of steam as it transformed back into it Standard Mode. The forwards stood awestruck as the destructive power they had witnessed. Arcas came back to them and stood next to Nanoha, and asked her if he could see the statistics. The White Devil promptly brought them up on a screen, and the MD6 personnel crowded around to look.

“Good job, Arcas! You managed to knock down seven more AA rank shields than last time!”

“Thanks, Fate. But I honestly thought it’d be more than that – I’ve spent a lot of time focusing and learning how to control my attacks rather than just blast the enemy with raw firepower.”

“Don’t worry, Arcas. It took me awhile learn how to properly control Starlight Breaker, but I got the hang of it.”

The four forwards, however, had their eyes practically riveted to the part of the screen which was labeled ATTACK STRENGTH. It said:

DEVICE: ASCALON / SPELL: CRUSADE / ATTACK STRENGTH: >SSS+.

Of course, each forward had their own thoughts about it.

An attack stronger than SSS+?! Is that even possible?! (Tea)

Arcas-san is REALLY strong! He might even be stronger than Nanoha-san! (Subaru)

Wow… I knew Arcas was strong, but I had no idea… (Erio)

Arcas-nii-san is as strong as I remember him! (Caro)

“Well, that’s all for me. How about we get to training, eh?” Arcas asked. With that, the assembled mages headed off to train for the day.

I so feel for Arcas' sleep situation there... know exactly how that feels At least, Mel getting good practice for when they eventually tie the kn-

Anyhow, Crusades is as has been suggested, it should use at least 6 cartridges, or an entire clip to make the SSS+ rank believable. But that's just a suggestion.

Mikoto splashed off to relieve the next sister, Feena, who quietly walked over and sat down next to Mabiko.

Feena: I simply conversed with Barabus...although it was hard not to hug him. He talked about how he served Liana's family and how some of her ancestors were very much alike her. But...he seemed to be hiding something...

Mabiko: Look into it and see if you can earn his friendship, ne? I'm sure he'll like someone that doesn't always use him as merely a cuddle buddy that he can talk with.

Feena: Hai, okaa-sama...

As Feena was exchanging position with Erika, Cressida saw a chance as she made another attempt. However, Feena stopped it instead, casting a bind spell on Cressida and positioning her in front of the rest of the kitsune familiars.

Cressida: Hey! Lemme go!

Yuuki: Well, sisters? How about we give Cressida a taste of her own medicine, eh?

Cressida: You wouldn't dare...

Leticia: Not that we like throwing military rank around, but you're the one not respecting rank, no?

In the male baths, Vinson suffered another backlash as he heard screams and moans echoing from the female baths, causing his imagination to kick into overdrive and his nose to suffer another dam breaker. Barabus grabbed Vinson by some of his hair and dragged him out before his blood completely filled the bath.

Barabus: Yareyare...mijukumono(untrained one)...

I just had to leave out the torture scene. I think it'd be too graphic.

That was unbelievably close. I can't believe that we actually managed to run fast enough to reach the relative safety of the CSDB building. We should be safe here as no sane person would willingly come here unless they're on official business or are members of the CSDB themselves. As usual, Tais got into trouble again, this time from just returning a book.

We were lazing around after completing yet another round of tests as it seems like Director Tsuzuki is still trying to reproduce the body switching effect. Out of the blue, Tais suddenly remember that the book he borrowed from the Infinite Library was about to be overdue and he decide to go return it. Taking the teleporter to the Main Office where the library is, we made it there mostly without incidents except Tais got splashed with a bucket of water near the teleport pad. Anyway except for being a bit damp, we got to Professor Scrya.

Yuuno: Oh hi, Tais. I've been wondering where have you been. Listen, about the book I loan you last time...
Tais: I have it here Professor.

Yuuno: Let me put it this way. A Yanmama is a someone who is female and used to do bad stuff. Someone who is blond, young and has kids. Someone who is...Fate?!

When Yuuno sensei blurted out the word Fate, I suddenly knew that Tais's bad luck has struck. Unfortunately the 2 morons don't seems to realize that danger is just behind us as they continue their conversation.

Tais: Fate? Do you mean Enforcer T. Harlaown, Sensei? But she doesn't fit the description you mention just now. She doesn't have kids nor does she have a bad background.
Verossa: Tais my new friend. Technically she doesn't have kids but she did adopt a few and she was involved in a certain incident that is classified but the main point is that she was a bad girl. So yanmama can be used to describe her if you loosen the definition a bit.
Tais: Oh ok, thanks for enlightening me Yuuno sensei.
Verossa: But seriously sensei, calling your own friend a yanmama just to demonstrate the meaning. What would she say if she heard you?
???: She would simply say Bardiche, load cartridge.

Tais and Verossa turned around and saw a cute little girl which look and sound exactly like Enforcer T. Harlaown, wielding Bardiche Assult in Zamber form. Instinct commanded them to run and like sensible people, they obeyed, leaving Professor Scrya behind. Fortunately, the little girl did not give chase... yet. Unfortunately, whilst the two are running towards the exit, my audio senors manage to capture information that the cute little girl was in fact Enforcer T. Harlaown herself and she is not amused at the trio calling her a yanmama. Seems like she's a victim of some kind of beverage which "chibi-fied" her. Judging from the screams of pain from Professor Scrya, it also seems like she's in an extremely bad mood.

A few seconds later, she started giving chase to the duo. Luckily the two have longer legs and could ran faster, but the bad news is that she seemed to be utilizing some sort of speed enhancement which allowed her to slowly catch up. If it was any other situation, she would be terribly cute in that barrier jacket of hers but now, she is simply terrifying.

At this stage, it was every man for himself as shown by Inspector Acous. He told us that the best way to escape a predator is not to run faster than the predator but to ran faster than the guy beside you. Finishing this statement, he shoved Tais into a group of people, ran off in another direction and taunted us by saying:"Have fun with the yanmama".

The shove sent Tais crashing into a woman with 5 "kids", knocking them both down with his face planted in her huge assets. As Tais tries to get up, he suddenly plants his face back in that valley, narrowly avoiding a sword strike to his head. Quickly grabbing the woman and rolling to the side to avoid another enraged sword strike that would have cleaved him in half, Tais picked up the woman and ran again.

???: Hey! That person has got okaa-sama!! Get him!!
All: Get that Hentai!!
Woman: Put me down you pervert!!
Tais: I'm sorry ma'am but please bare with this for a while. Stopping is too dangerous for me right now.
Woman: I said put me down!! (sound of fists hitting Tais)
Tais: Please stop hitting me. Its not my fault!! I didn't mean to crash into you, nor did I mean to call Enforcer Harlaown a yanmama.
Fate: Tais you bastard!! Stop calling me a yanmama!!
???: And put haha-ue down you sukebe!!
Fate: You asked for it!!
Bardiche: [Plasma Lancer]
Tais: Yikes!!

Dodging the projectiles, Tais quickly turned into another corridor and crash into yet another group. Dropping the woman and quickly getting to his feet, he started running again. This turns out to be a minor blessing as it distracted the 5 "kids" temporarily, allowing Tais to gain some distance from them and Enforcer Harlaown.

Mabiko: Cressida.
Cressida: Since your familiars are not around, CHANCE!!

Leticia: He ran down that way. Erika, Mikoto, Yuuki, you three go catch that hentai. Feena and I will protect Okaa-sama.

The situation is getting worse. Directing Tais down the corridor to the teleport arrays, we soon encountered Investigator Acous again, who was catching his breath. Upon seeing Tais still fleeing, he too quickly ran. This time I was keeping my sensors on him since he proven that he will do anything to save his own skin. As we are approaching another junction, we heard voices approaching. Predictably, Investigator Acous tried to shove Tais but this time I was ready for his tricks. Before he could reach us, I suddenly told Tais to stop and bow which he did. Recognizing one of the voices as Lady Carim, I quickly greeted her but her reply was interrupted by Investigator Acous who had committed to his action of trying to shove Tais. Due to Tais sudden stop and bow, he was sent flying straight towards the Lady. Luckily, Lady Carim had a briefcase held in front of her which Investigator Acous hit face first.

Excusing ourselves, Tais left just before Enforcer Harlaown arrived. Since he was still dazed by the impact, there was no chance for Investigator Acous to escape. His screams were long and terrible but frankly speaking, I think he deserved it. However, we'll still remember his "heroic sacrifice" which prolonged our chances for survival. Racing down the corridors, we soon caught sight of our goal, the teleport arrays. Pushing himself harder, Tais managed to put forth another burst of speed but disaster struck.

Remember Tais getting splashed earlier? Well, it turns out there was a patch of floor that was still slightly damp and Tais slipped and slided like a baseball player toward the arrays. Normally this wouldn't be a problem as we are too near our goal and the pursuers are too far. As it so happens, a group of two guys and a girl in black between them just teleported in and it looks like we're about to crash into people again. Fortunately for all involved except for the pursuers, the two guys have great reflexes. Despite having no room to dodge, they pressed themselves against the walls of the narrow corridor and lifted the girl up, allowing us to slide pass underneath. That pervert Tais actually has the gall to mutter black which I assume was the colour of her undergarments as we pass by. Yelling apologies, while quickly activating the teleport array, we managed to escape and reach the CSDB.

Tais: Hey Yui, stop writing in your log and look at this.
Yui: I don't believe you. You just escaped hell and now you're surfing the web? I'd thought you'll be praying and thanking the God Empress for surviving.
Tais: I did. Its just that you took too long to write the log file.
Yui: I haven't completed it yet. Do whatever you want and let me complete it.

Stupid Tais, interrupting me just to look at some plain black online counseling site about removing the sorrow of whoever's name is entered. That was unbelievably close. I can't believe that we actually managed to run fast enough to reach the relative safety of the CSDB building. We should be safe here as no sane person would willingly come here unless they're on official business or are members of the CSDB themselves. As usual, Tais got into trouble again, this time from just returning a book.

We were lazing around after completing yet another round of tests as it seems like Director Tsuzuki is still trying to reproduce the body switching effect. Out of the blue, Tais suddenly remember that the book he borrowed from the Infinite Library was about to be overdue and he decide to go return it. Taking the teleporter to the Main Office where the library is, we made it there mostly without incidents except Tais got splashed with a bucket of water near the teleport arrays. Anyway except for being a bit damp, we got to Professor Scrya.

Tais and Verossa turned around and saw a cute little girl which look and sound exactly like Enforcer T. Harlaown, wielding Bardiche Assult in Zamber form. Instinct commanded them to run and like sensible people, they obeyed, leaving Professor Scrya behind. Fortunately, the little girl did not give chase... yet. Unfortunately, whilst the two are running towards the exit, my audio senors manage to capture information that the cute little girl was in fact Enforcer T. Harlaown herself and she is not amused at the trio calling her a yanmama. Seems like she's a victim of some kind of beverage which "chibi-fied" her. Judging from the screams of pain from Professor Scrya, it also seems like she's in an extremely bad mood.

A few seconds later, she started giving chase to the duo. Luckily the two have longer legs and could ran faster, but the bad news is that she seemed to be utilizing some sort of speed enhancement which allowed her to slowly catch up. If it was any other situation, she would be terribly cute in that barrier jacket of hers but now, she is simply terrifying.

At this stage, it was every man for himself as shown by Inspector Acous. He told us that the best way to escape a predator is not to run faster than the predator but to ran faster than the guy beside you. Finishing this statement, he shoved Tais into a group of people, ran off in another direction and taunted us by saying:"Have fun with the yanmama".

The shove sent Tais crashing into a woman with 5 "kids", knocking them both down with his face planted in her huge assets. As Tais tries to get up, he suddenly plants his face back in that valley, narrowly avoiding a sword strike to his head. Quickly grabbing the woman and rolling to the side to avoid another enraged sword strike that would have cleaved him in half, Tais picked up the woman and ran again.

???: Hey! That person has got okaa-sama!! Get him!!
All: Get that Hentai!!
Woman: Put me down you pervert!!
Tais: I'm sorry ma'am but please bare with this for a while. Stopping is too dangerous for me right now.

Dodging the projectiles, Tais quickly turned into another corridor and crash into yet another group. Dropping the woman and quickly getting to his feet, he started running again. The sound of the helicopter rotors was deafening. We were now on the way to the RF6 base after some last minute changes to the exercise. To my left the Spellblades were sitting at the back of the craft, huddled together. No doubt they were talking about what was happening today as inter-unit training wasn’t exactly common within the Enforcer corps. It was much more prevalent between the Air and Ground divisions. And to my right was the first team of the Weavers. Why they had been asked along still baffled me. ‘I can’t see them lacking on observers to the fight.’

Monday 0900
Naval Offices, North Wing.

“Captain, Lt Colonel Yagami is on the line for you.” William reported.

“Could you patch her through, thank you.”

Second later the connection established itself. “Captain, what may I do for you? The message you left with Shari has left me very interested.”

I saluted. “Yes. As you are aware, the 108th land division has been called away to help with disaster relief. Unfortunately, members of their division had been scheduled to run an exercise with my third squad tomorrow.”

“I see, so you want to pit your members against my unit?”

She was straight to the point. A rare trait in the armed forces. There had been countless times when I was forced to run around in circles, figuratively and literally to try and get results and answers from various places in the force. “Yes, that is indeed my intention. Permission to speak freely?”

“Granted.”

“I’ve been looking through your mission logs. While up until now you have been fighting drones, there is a high chance in the future that you and your team will need to deal with human opponents. This exercise will give them that experience.”

Her left eyebrow rose, “Are you trying to imply that our training is insufficient? That we would let someone get away.”

“Yes madam, I am. Although your squad leaders have ample experience, they are not able to be everywhere at once. Your rookies will have to step up to the challenge and if they are unfamiliar with dealing with human opponents, then failure is almost guaranteed.”

She smiled, “You raise some interesting points Captain. Very well I agree to your request.”

I bowed, “Thank you very much madam.”

“However there are some conditions. I’ve looked over your squad’s line up. In order to counter the difference in mage ranks, one of my commanders will be involved in the exercise as well.”

“That is acceptable. Actually, more mages would be better.” Another eyebrow at this, prompting me to explain, “I’m sending a copy of the exercise to you now, everything is detailed there.”

As she skimmed through the report, I took the brief respite in the meeting to compose myself. ‘She might be young but she is definitely not just some ‘honorary’ Lt Colonel.’ What little background information I had been able to find now made a lot more sense, now that I had talked to her.

“Very well, we’ll make the necessary arrangements. Just a second Captain, I’ll check with our trainer to make sure that this won’t be disrupting anything important tomorrow.”

I nodded. “Ahh Nanoha, are you free to talk.”

I could see a glimpse of another display to the Lt. Colonel’s right. A figure in white and blue was on the display. “Hayate, what is it? I’m a little distracted at the moment.”

“CROSSFIRE SHOOT”

Another voice. Suddenly the other screen was filled with the trails of a golden spell. I gasped. ‘She’s talking back to her CO while still in a training exercise. Either she’s highly skilled or has lost some screws in her head.’

“Just wanted to check that nothing important is happening tomorrow. An enforcer squad want’s to have a skirmish with us.”

“REVOLVER SHOOT”

Accel Shooter. “Sorry, could you repeat that last bit Hayate; I couldn’t hear what you said.”

“I SAID AN ENFORCER UNIT WANTS TO HAVE A SKIRMISH WITH US.”

“Ah, ok that’s fine. Give me the details at lunch. STARS 1 out.”

I stared, dumbfounded at the screen. ‘Who the hell is that person?’ I mean, I had heard rumours but I had just dismissed them. She turned back to me and I quickly stood back from the display. ‘Hopefully my expression is still the same as before.’

“Ok, everything is approved Captain. Just two more things. Could you bring some other members of your unit with you? Additionally I see that the exercise was to be held in a section of the abandoned city. Do you mind if we hold them here instead?”

I shook my head. “No, that’s perfectly acceptable.”

“Then I’ll see you and your unit tomorrow then at 0630 hours.”

Saluting again I said, “Thank you madam.”

The display disappeared. As I moved to shut down the console, her voice came through the speakers. “This is going to be so fun. Some more people to test my outfits on.”

“Wai-desu!”

“We’re approaching the base now, everyone to your seats and get ready for landing” The pilot yelled.

As we approached I could see everyone looking out of the windows.

“Whoa, this place is huge” Juliet exclaimed.

“I wonder where the exercise is going to be held, I can’t see any buildings that we could use”

“It’s probably hidden around the corner. I mean look at the size of that building, it’s massive compared to Enforcer barracks.”

The helicopter touched down on the roof of the building. To the right of us a Stormraider was beginning to power down, its rotors slowly spinning. I nodded at the Blades, and they pulled the side door open. As we disembarked, it was my turn to add to the comments of awe. “This is one lucky unit, everything here is either new or has been refurbished.”

Opposite us, the doors to the building opened and I moved forward to see who had arrived. Two females dressed in the ground uniform came through the doors. One was about Meia’s height while the other was even taller than I, her pink hair flowing down to her waist. The taller of the two surveyed the group before stopping at me, ‘What’s this feeling, it seems like she’s ready for combat at all time.’

The pair saluted and I returned it. The taller of the two began to speak, “Captain, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Lieutenant Signum of Riot Force 6.” Gesturing to the brown haired person next to her she continued, “This is First Private Shario Finieno. She’ll be recording today’s exercise.”

“Nice to meet you both. Are we ready to begin?”

“Yes, both squads are waiting for us by the training area.” She turned and pointed down to the lake. “If you’d all follow me, we’ll make our way down there.”

“You heard her, let’s move out!”

“Yes sir.”

As we made our way through the building, I was shocked at the space inside. In comparison to the Enforcer barracks, this place was like a mansion. I could hear the Blades talking about the building behind me.

[If you’re not talking about the exercise, shut it. Talk about it later, after this is done.]

Their thoughts came rushing back to me, [Yes sir.] I could sense their embarrassment at being caught.

The landscape surrounding the building was as stunning as the building itself. We could see the lake from the buildings entrance and I could just make out figures in the distance. “That’s our destination?” I asked Signum.

“Yes”

“Blades, warm up. One lap around the building first, then you’ll meet us down there. I expect you to get there just after we do.”

“Yes sir” They moved off at a light jog, splitting apart from the rest of us.

We could clearly see the forward teams of RF6 as we reached the lake’s edge.

“Captain approaching.” Signum called.

The group snapped to attention saluting as one. We returned the salute.

“Ok, get ready everyone; we’ll get started in 10 minutes.” Unlike the others, this one wore the white uniform of the instructors. She walked up the stairs to join us.

“Captain Takomachi Nanoha, your reputation precedes you.”

She smiled. ‘Hopefully she doesn’t smile at me directly… I might melt if she does that too often’, “Likewise. The Spellweavers under your command have created some impressive victories in the last few years.”

“I’d like to introduce you. Weaver 1, Meia, formally my second in charge but now leader of the Weavers. Weaver 2, Juliet and Weaver 3, David. The rest of the squad couldn’t make it today. The Spellblades will be here shortly, I trust that everything is ready for the exercise.”

“Of course. Everything is ready…” She trailed off…

“But?” I prompted.

“Our other commanders aren’t here to greet you.” Behind us I could sense another group approaching. ‘Hmm doesn’t feel like the Blades.’ “Ahh here they are now.”

Turning to look behind me, a group of 5 were approaching. 4 females and a single male. No wait; there are 6 different magical signatures there. I scanned the group again but was unable to spot anyone else. Just behind them I could see the Blades, waiting patiently behind the group. As they got closer I finally realised who the 6th signature belonged to. ‘No wonder I couldn’t see her, she is quite small isn’t she.’

In deference to her rank, we saluted the group. “At ease captain. We’re just here to watch today. Although Vita here will be involved in the exercise.” The speaker stepped forward from the group, standing separate from the others before she continued.

“This is a joint exercise between the 85th Enforcer unit and Riot Force 6. This will be a simulation exercise where the enforcers have infiltrated a city to gather information. That was successful but they were spotted before they could make it out of the city.

That brings us to Riot Force 6. Our job is to hunt down the enforcers and bring them in for interrogation. That is all. Captains, if you could go over the simulation brief one final time. The rest of us will be stationed around the area to respond to any accidents that may occur. The exercise will start in 5 minutes time.”

I gathered the Blades together. “So, everyone know the plan?”

“Yep, no problems here.” Isamu said.

Training Grounds, RF6

I motioned to Vita and Shari to come down the stairs.

“Nanoha-san, we’re fighting them today right?” Subaru asked.

“Mou, did you listen to what Commander Hayate just said,” Tia replied as she wacked Subaru on the back of her head.

“Ouch! Tia what was that for?” cried an indignant Subaru.

“Now, now” I said, “Everything will be fine. It’s just like training.”

“Um… Nanoha-san, what happens if we hurt them.” Caro said.

“Don’t worry Caro, they’re all well trained.” I replied. “Just a few more things to add, we’ll be using drones as well to look for them. Make sure you don’t attack them ok?” They nodded. “Listen to Vita’s instructions, ok!”

“Ok! Let’s go!” Subaru said.

“That’s the spirit!” I activated the screens, initialising the holographic city. The pad shimmered for a second before the city rose into place.

“Wah! Look at that Isamu.”

“Whoa, how come we don’t get this stuff back at HQ?”

“How many drones do you think should be used?” Shari asked.

“Hmm, 20 should be enough. B rank attack and speed for 16 of them. A rank for the rest.”

“Ok”

2 minutes remaining before exercise start, could all participants enter the city limits.

“Ahh, I nearly forgot. Shari, send the city map to the Spellblades.”

“Ok! Nanoha, everything’s ready.”

“Raising Heart, set up please”

With a flash, my barrier jacket materialised. I picked Shari up and flew to the top of one of the buildings within the city.

1 minute remaining before exercise start. Barrier jackets and devices standby.

The sound of the helicopter rotors was deafening. We were now on the way to the MD6 base after some last minute changes to the exercise. To my left the Spellblades were sitting at the back of the craft, huddled together. No doubt they were talking about what was actually happening today as inter-unit training wasn’t exactly common with the Enforcer corps. It was much more prevalent between the three main branches of the TSAB’s armed divisions. And to my right was the first team of the Weavers. Why they had been asked along still baffled me. I can’t see them lacking on observers to the fight.

“Captain, Lt Colonel Yagami is on the line for you.” William reported.

“Could you patch her through, thank you.”

Second later the connection established itself. “Captain, what may I do for you. The message you left with Shari has left me very interested.”

I saluted. “Yes. As you are aware, the 108th land division has been called away to help with disaster relief. Unfortunately, members of their division had been scheduled to run an exercise with my third squad tomorrow.”

“I see, so you want to pit your members against my unit?”

She was straight to the point. A rare quality in the armed forces. There has been countless times when I had to run around in circles, figuratively and literally to try and get results and answers from various members of the armed forces. “Yes, that is indeed my intention. Permission to speak freely?”

“Granted.”

“I’ve been looking through your mission logs. Although you have been fighting drones, there will be a time in the future when you and your team will come face to face with human opponents. My exercise will give them that experience.”

Her left eyebrow rose, “Are you trying to imply that our training is insufficient? That we would let someone get away.”

“Yes madam, I am. Although your squad leaders have ample experience, they are not able to be everywhere at once. Your rookies will have to step up to the challenge and if they are unfamiliar with dealing with human opponents, then a failure of mission parameters will occur.”

She smiled, “You raise some interesting points Captain. Very well I agree to your request.”

I bowed, “Thank you very much madam.”

“However there are some conditions. I’ve looked over your squad’s line up. In order to counter the difference in mage ranks, one of my commanders will be involved in the exercise as well.”

“That is acceptable. Actually, more mages would be better.” Another eyebrow at this, prompting me to explain, “I’m sending a copy of the exercise to you now.”

As she skimmed through the report, I took the brief respite in the meeting to compose myself. ‘She might be young but she is definitely not just some ‘honorary’ Lt Colonel.’ What little background information I had been able to find now made a lot more sense, now that I has talked to her.

“Very well, we’ll make the necessary arrangements. Just a second Captain, I’ll check with our trainer to make sure that this won’t be disrupting anything important tomorrow.”

I nodded. “Ahh Nanoha, are you free to talk.”

I could see a glimpse of another display to the Lt. Colonel’s right. A figure in white and blue was on the display. “Hayate, what is it? I’m a little distracted at the moment.”

“CROSSFIRE SHOOT”

Another voice. Suddenly the other screen was filled with the trails of a golden spell. I gasped. ‘She’s talking back to her CO while still in a training exercise. Either she’s highly skilled or has lost some screws in her head.’

“Just wanted to check that nothing important is happening tomorrow. An enforcer squad want’s to have a skirmish with us.”

“REVOLVER SHOOT”

“Accel Shooter. Sorry, could you repeat that last bit Hayate, I couldn’t hear what you said.”

“I SAID, AN ENFORCER UNIT WANT’S TO HAVE A SKIRMISH WITH US.”

“Ah, ok that’s fine. Give me the details at lunch. STARS 1 out.”

I stared, dumbfounded at the screen. ‘Who the hell is that person.’ I mean, I had heard rumours but I had just dismissed them. She turned back to me and I quickly stood back from the display. ‘Hopefully my expression is still the same as before.’

“Ok, everything is approved Captain. Just two more things. Could you bring some other members of your unit with you? Also I see that the exercise was to be held in the abandoned ruins. Do you mind if we hold them here instead?”

I shook my head. “No, that’s perfectly acceptable.”

“Then I’ll see you and your unit tomorrow then at 0630 hours.”

Saluting again I said, “Thank you madam.”

The display disappeared. As I moved to shut down the console, her voice came through the speakers. “This is going to be so fun. Some more people to test my outfits on.”

“Wai-desu!”

I sweat dropped… ‘What in the world are they talking about.’

“We’re approaching the base now, everyone to your seats and get ready for landing” The pilot yelled.

As we approached I could see everyone looking out of the windows.

“Whoa, this place is huge” Juliet said.

“I wonder where the exercise is going to be held, I can’t see any buildings that we could use”

“It’s probably hidden around the corner. I mean look at the size of that building, it’s massive compared to Enforcer barracks.”

The helicopter touched down on the roof of the building. To the right of us a Stormraider was beginning to power down. Its rotors slowly spinning. I nodded at the Blades, and they pulled the side door open. As we disembarked, it was my turn to add to the comments of awe. ‘This is one lucky unit, everything here is either new or has been refurbished.’

Opposite us, the doors to the building opened. I moved forward to see who had arrived. Two uniformed females in the ground uniform came through the doors. One was about Meia’s height while the other was even taller than I, her pink hair flowing down to her waist. The taller of the two surveyed the group before stopping at me, ‘What’s this feeling, it seems like she’s ready for combat at all time.’

The pair saluted and I returned it. The taller of the two began to speak, “Captain, it’s good to see you. I’m Lieutenant Signum of Mobile Division 6.” Gesturing to the brown haired person next to her she continued, “This is First Private Shario Finieno. She’ll be recording today’s exercise.”

“Nice to meet you both. Are we ready to begin?”

“Yes, Both squads are waiting for us by the training area.” She turned and pointed down to the lake. “If you’d all follow me, we’ll make our way down there.”

“You heard her, let’s move out!”

“Yes sir.”

As we made our way through the building, I was shocked at the space inside. In comparison to the Enforcer barracks, this place was like a mansion. I could hear the Blades talking about the building behind me.

[If you’re not talking about the exercise, shut it. Talk about it later, after this is done.]

Their thoughts came rushing back to me, [Yes sir.] I could sense their embarrassment at being caught.

The landscape surrounding the building was as stunning as the building itself. We could see the lake from the buildings entrance and I could just make out figures in the distance. “That’s our destination?” I asked Signum.

“Yes”

“Blades, warm up. One lap around the building first, then you’ll meet us down there. I expect you to get there just after we do.”

“Yes sir” They moved off at a light jog, splitting apart from the rest of us.

Reaching the lake’s edge, we could finally see in detail they squads of MD6.

“Captain approaching.” Signum called.

The group snapped to attention. As one they saluted. We returned the salute.

“Ok, get ready everyone; we’ll get started in 10 minutes.” Unlike the others, this one wore the white uniform of the instructors. She walked up the stairs to join us.

“Captain Takomachi Nanoha, your reputation precedes you.”

She smiled. ‘Hopefully she doesn’t smile at me directly… I might melt if she does that too often’, “Likewise. The Spellweavers under your command have created some impressive victories in the last few years.”

“I’d like to introduce you all to the Weavers here today. Weaver 1, Meia, formally my second in charge but now leader of the Weavers. Weaver 2, Juliet and Weaver 3, David. The rest of the squad couldn’t make it today. The Spellblades will be here shortly, I trust that everything is ready for the exercise.”

“Of course. Everything is ready…” She trailed off..

“But?” I prompted.

“Our other commanders aren’t here to greet you.” Behind us I could sense another group approaching. ‘Hmm doesn’t feel like the Blades.’ “Ahh here they are now.”

Turning to look behind me, a group of 5 were approaching. 4 females and 1 male. No wait; there are 6 different magical signatures there. I scanned the group again but couldn’t see anyone else. Just behind them I could see the Blades, waiting patiently behind the group. As they got closer I finally realised who the 6th signature belonged to. ‘No wonder I couldn’t see her, she is quite small isn’t she.’

In deference to her rank, we saluted the group. “At ease captain. We’re just here to watch today. Although Vita here will be involved in the exercise.” She stepped forward from the group, standing separate from the others before she continued.

“This is a joint exercise between the 85th Enforcer unit and Mobile Divison 6. This will be a simulation exercise where the enforcers have infiltrated a city to retrieve information. That was successful but they were spotted before they could make it out of the city.

That brings us to Mobile Division 6. Our job is to hunt down the enforcers and make sure that they don’t escape. That is all. Captains, if you could go over the simulation brief one final time. The rest of us will be stationed around the area to respond to any accidents that may occur. The exercise will start in 5 minutes time.”

I gathered the Blades together. “So, everyone know the plan?”

“Yep, no problems here.” Isamu said.

I motioned to Vita and Shari to come down the stairs.

“Nanoha-san, we’re going to fighting them today right?” Subaru asked.

“Mou, did you listen to what Commander Hayate just said” Tia replied as she wacked Subaru on the back of her head.

“Ouch.. Tia what was that for?” cried an indignant Subaru.

“Now, now..” I said, “Everything will be fine. It’s just like training.”

“Um Nanoha-san, what happens if we hurt them.” Caro said.

“Don’t worry Caro, they’re all well trained.” I replied. “Just a few more things to add, we’ll be using drones as well to look for them. Make sure you don’t attack them ok?” They nodded. “Also Vita will be there as well so listen to her instructions.”

“Ok! Let’s go!” Subaru said.

“That’s the spirit!” I activated the screens, forming the holographic city. The pad shimmered for a second before the city rose into place.

“Wah! Look at that Isamu.”

“Whoa, how come we don’t get this stuff back at HQ?”

“How many drones do you think should be used?” Shari asked.

“Hmm, 20 should be enough. B rank attack and speed for 16 of them. A rank for the rest.”

“Ok”

2 minutes remaining before exercise start, could all participants enter the city limits.

“Ahh, I nearly forgot. Shari, send the city map to the Spellblades.”

“Ok Nanoha, everything’s ready.”

“Raising Heart, set up please”

With a flash, my barrier jacket materialised. I picked Shari up and flew to the top of one of the buildings within the city.

1 minute remaining before exercise start. Barrier jackets and devices standby.

Voices could be heard from all around the city.

Woo. Nice story. Although introduction of the drones would most likely screw the rookies up. They're too used to fighting drones imo. I expect them to destroy a few creating chaos before the entire exercise became a huge free-for-all

“However there are some conditions. I’ve looked over your squad’s line up. In order to counter the difference in mage ranks, one of my commanders will be involved in the exercise as well.”

“That is acceptable. Actually, more mages would be better.” Another eyebrow at this, prompting me to explain, “I’m sending a copy of the exercise to you now.”

As she skimmed through the report, I took the brief respite in the meeting to compose myself. ‘She might be young but she is definitely not just some ‘honorary’ Lt Colonel.’ What little background information I had been able to find now made a lot more sense, now that I has talked to her.

“Very well, we’ll make the necessary arrangements. Just a second Captain, I’ll check with our trainer to make sure that this won’t be disrupting anything important tomorrow.”

I nodded. “Ahh Nanoha, are you free to talk.”

I could see a glimpse of another display to the Lt. Colonel’s right. A figure in white and blue was on the display. “Hayate, what is it? I’m a little distracted at the moment.”

“CROSSFIRE SHOOT”

Another voice. Suddenly the other screen was filled with the trails of a golden spell. I gasped. ‘She’s talking back to her CO while still in a training exercise. Either she’s highly skilled or has lost some screws in her head.’

“Just wanted to check that nothing important is happening tomorrow. An enforcer squad want’s to have a skirmish with us.”

“REVOLVER SHOOT”

“Accel Shooter. Sorry, could you repeat that last bit Hayate, I couldn’t hear what you said.”

“I SAID, AN ENFORCER UNIT WANT’S TO HAVE A SKIRMISH WITH US.”

“Ah, ok that’s fine. Give me the details at lunch. STARS 1 out.”

I stared, dumbfounded at the screen. ‘Who the hell is that person.’ I mean, I had heard rumours but I had just dismissed them. She turned back to me and I quickly stood back from the display. ‘Hopefully my expression is still the same as before.’

“Ok, everything is approved Captain. Just two more things. Could you bring some other members of your unit with you? Also I see that the exercise was to be held in the abandoned ruins. Do you mind if we hold them here instead?”

I shook my head. “No, that’s perfectly acceptable.”

“Then I’ll see you and your unit tomorrow then at 0630 hours.”

Saluting again I said, “Thank you madam.”

The display disappeared. As I moved to shut down the console, her voice came through the speakers. “This is going to be so fun. Some more people to test my outfits on.”

“Wai-desu!”

I sweat dropped… ‘What in the world are they talking about.’

Tuesday 0625

“We’re approaching the base now, everyone to your seats and get ready for landing” The pilot yelled.

As we approached I could see everyone looking out of the windows.

“Whoa, this place is huge” Juliet said.

“I wonder where the exercise is going to be held, I can’t see any buildings that we could use”

“It’s probably hidden around the corner. I mean look at the size of that building, it’s massive compared to Enforcer barracks.”

The helicopter touched down on the roof of the building. To the right of us a Stormraider was beginning to power down. Its rotors slowly spinning. I nodded at the Blades, and they pulled the side door open. As we disembarked, it was my turn to add to the comments of awe. ‘This is one lucky unit, everything here is either new or has been refurbished.’

Opposite us, the doors to the building opened. I moved forward to see who had arrived. Two uniformed females in the ground uniform came through the doors. One was about Meia’s height while the other was even taller than I, her pink hair flowing down to her waist. The taller of the two surveyed the group before stopping at me, ‘What’s this feeling, it seems like she’s ready for combat at all time.’

The pair saluted and I returned it. The taller of the two began to speak, “Captain, it’s good to see you. I’m Lieutenant Signum of Mobile Division 6.” Gesturing to the brown haired person next to her she continued, “This is First Private Shario Finieno. She’ll be recording today’s exercise.”

“Nice to meet you both. Are we ready to begin?”

“Yes, Both squads are waiting for us by the training area.” She turned and pointed down to the lake. “If you’d all follow me, we’ll make our way down there.”

“You heard her, let’s move out!”

“Yes sir.”

As we made our way through the building, I was shocked at the space inside. In comparison to the Enforcer barracks, this place was like a mansion. I could hear the Blades talking about the building behind me.

[If you’re not talking about the exercise, shut it. Talk about it later, after this is done.]

Their thoughts came rushing back to me, [Yes sir.] I could sense their embarrassment at being caught.

The landscape surrounding the building was as stunning as the building itself. We could see the lake from the buildings entrance and I could just make out figures in the distance. “That’s our destination?” I asked Signum.

“Yes”

“Blades, warm up. One lap around the building first, then you’ll meet us down there. I expect you to get there just after we do.”

“Yes sir” They moved off at a light jog, splitting apart from the rest of us.

Reaching the lake’s edge, we could finally see in detail they squads of MD6.

“Captain approaching.” Signum called.

The group snapped to attention. As one they saluted. We returned the salute.

“Ok, get ready everyone; we’ll get started in 10 minutes.” Unlike the others, this one wore the white uniform of the instructors. She walked up the stairs to join us.

“Captain Takomachi Nanoha, your reputation precedes you.”

She smiled. ‘Hopefully she doesn’t smile at me directly… I might melt if she does that too often’, “Likewise. The Spellweavers under your command have created some impressive victories in the last few years.”

“I’d like to introduce you all to the Weavers here today. Weaver 1, Meia, formally my second in charge but now leader of the Weavers. Weaver 2, Juliet and Weaver 3, David. The rest of the squad couldn’t make it today. The Spellblades will be here shortly, I trust that everything is ready for the exercise.”

“Of course. Everything is ready…” She trailed off..

“But?” I prompted.

“Our other commanders aren’t here to greet you.” Behind us I could sense another group approaching. ‘Hmm doesn’t feel like the Blades.’ “Ahh here they are now.”

Turning to look behind me, a group of 5 were approaching. 4 females and 1 male. No wait; there are 6 different magical signatures there. I scanned the group again but couldn’t see anyone else. Just behind them I could see the Blades, waiting patiently behind the group. As they got closer I finally realised who the 6th signature belonged to. ‘No wonder I couldn’t see her, she is quite small isn’t she.’

In deference to her rank, we saluted the group. “At ease captain. We’re just here to watch today. Although Vita here will be involved in the exercise.” She stepped forward from the group, standing separate from the others before she continued.

“This is a joint exercise between the 85th Enforcer unit and Mobile Divison 6. This will be a simulation exercise where the enforcers have infiltrated a city to retrieve information. That was successful but they were spotted before they could make it out of the city.

That brings us to Mobile Division 6. Our job is to hunt down the enforcers and make sure that they don’t escape. That is all. Captains, if you could go over the simulation brief one final time. The rest of us will be stationed around the area to respond to any accidents that may occur. The exercise will start in 5 minutes time.”

I gathered the Blades together. “So, everyone know the plan?”

“Yep, no problems here.” Isamu said.

I motioned to Vita and Shari to come down the stairs.

“Nanoha-san, we’re going to fighting them today right?” Subaru asked.

“Mou, did you listen to what Commander Hayate just said” Tia replied as she wacked Subaru on the back of her head.

“Ouch.. Tia what was that for?” cried an indignant Subaru.

“Now, now..” I said, “Everything will be fine. It’s just like training.”

“Um Nanoha-san, what happens if we hurt them.” Caro said.

“Don’t worry Caro, they’re all well trained.” I replied. “Just a few more things to add, we’ll be using drones as well to look for them. Make sure you don’t attack them ok?” They nodded. “Also Vita will be there as well so listen to her instructions.”

“Ok! Let’s go!” Subaru said.

“That’s the spirit!” I activated the screens, forming the holographic city. The pad shimmered for a second before the city rose into place.

“Wah! Look at that Isamu.”

“Whoa, how come we don’t get this stuff back at HQ?”

“How many drones do you think should be used?” Shari asked.

“Hmm, 20 should be enough. B rank attack and speed for 16 of them. A rank for the rest.”

“Ok”

2 minutes remaining before exercise start, could all participants enter the city limits.

“Ahh, I nearly forgot. Shari, send the city map to the Spellblades.”

“Ok Nanoha, everything’s ready.”

“Raising Heart, set up please”

With a flash, my barrier jacket materialised. I picked Shari up and flew to the top of one of the buildings within the city.

1 minute remaining before exercise start. Barrier jackets and devices standby.

Voices could be heard from all around the city.

That was unbelievably close. I can't believe that we actually managed to run fast enough to reach the relative safety of the CSDB building. We should be safe here as no sane person would willingly come here unless they're on official business or are members of the CSDB themselves. As usual, Tais got into trouble again, this time from just returning a book.

We were lazing around after completing yet another round of tests as it seems like Director Tsuzuki is still trying to reproduce the body switching effect. Out of the blue, Tais suddenly remember that the book he borrowed from the Infinite Library was about to be overdue and he decide to go return it. Taking the teleporter to the Main Office where the library is, we made it there mostly without incidents except Tais got splashed with a bucket of water near the teleport arrays. Anyway except for being a bit damp, we got to Professor Scrya.

Yuuno: Oh hi, Tais. I've been wondering where have you been. Listen, about the book I loan you last time...
Tais: I have it here Professor.

When Yuuno sensei blurted out the word Fate, I suddenly knew that Tais's bad luck has struck. Unfortunately the 2 morons don't seems to realize that danger is just behind us as they continue their conversation.

Tais: Fate? Do you mean Enforcer T. Harlaown, Sensei? But she doesn't fit the description you mention just now. She doesn't have kids nor does she have a bad background.
Verossa: Tais my new friend. Technically she doesn't have kids but she did adopt a few and she was involved in a certain incident that is classified but the main point is that she was a bad girl. So yanmama can be used to describe her if you loosen the definition a bit.
Tais: Oh ok, thanks for enlightening me Yuuno sensei.
Verossa: But seriously sensei, calling your own friend a yanmama just to demonstrate the meaning. What would she say if she heard you?

Tais and Verossa turned around and saw a cute little girl which look and sound exactly like Enforcer T. Harlaown, wielding Bardiche Assult in Zamber form. Instinct commanded them to run and like sensible people, they obeyed, leaving Professor Scrya behind. Fortunately, the little girl did not give chase... yet. Unfortunately, whilst the two are running towards the exit, my audio senors manage to capture information that the cute little girl was in fact Enforcer T. Harlaown herself and she is not amused at the trio calling her a yanmama. Seems like she's a victim of some kind of beverage which "chibi-fied" her. Judging from the screams of pain from Professor Scrya, it also seems like she's in an extremely bad mood.

A few seconds later, she started giving chase to the duo. Luckily the two have longer legs and could ran faster, but the bad news is that she seemed to be utilizing some sort of speed enhancement which allowed her to slowly catch up. If it was any other situation, she would be terribly cute in that barrier jacket of hers but now, she is simply terrifying.

At this stage, it was every man for himself as shown by Inspector Acous. He told us that the best way to escape a predator is not to run faster than the predator but to ran faster than the guy beside you. Finishing this statement, he shoved Tais into a group of people, ran off in another direction and taunted us by saying:"Have fun with the yanmama".

The shove sent Tais crashing into a woman with 5 "kids", knocking them both down with his face planted in her huge assets. As Tais tries to get up, he suddenly plants his face back in that valley, narrowly avoiding a sword strike to his head. Quickly grabbing the woman and rolling to the side to avoid another enraged sword strike that would have cleaved him in half, Tais picked up the woman and ran again.

???: Hey! That person has got okaa-sama!! Get him!!
All: Get that Hentai!!
Woman: Put me down you pervert!!
Tais: I'm sorry ma'am but please bare with this for a while. Stopping is too dangerous for me right now.

Tais: Please stop hitting me. Its not my fault!! I didn't mean to crash into you, nor did I mean to call Enforcer Harlaown a yanmama.

Dodging the projectiles, Tais quickly turned into another corridor and crash into yet another group. Dropping the woman and quickly getting to his feet, he started running again. This turns out to be a minor blessing as it distracted the 5 "kids" temporarily, allowing Tais to gain some distance from them and Enforcer Harlaown.

Mabiko: Cressida.
Cressida: Since your familiars are not around, CHANCE!!
???: Dream on!
Mabiko: Leticia-chan.

The situation is getting worse. Directing Tais down the corridor to the teleport arrays, we soon encountered Investigator Acous again, who was catching his breath. Upon seeing Tais still fleeing, he too quickly ran. This time I was keeping my sensors on him since he proven that he will do anything to save his own skin. As we are approaching another junction, we heard voices approaching. Predictably, Investigator Acous tried to shove Tais but this time I was ready for his tricks. Before he could reach us, I suddenly told Tais to stop and bow which he did. Recognizing one of the voices as Lady Carim, I quickly greeted her but her reply was interrupted by Investigator Acous who had committed to his action of trying to shove Tais. Due to Tais sudden stop and bow, he was sent flying straight towards the Lady. Luckily, Lady Carim had a briefcase held in front of her which Investigator Acous hit face first.

Excusing ourselves, Tais left just before Enforcer Harlaown arrived. Since he was still dazed by the impact, there was no chance for Investigator Acous to escape. His screams were long and terrible but frankly speaking, I think he deserved it. However, we'll still remember his "heroic sacrifice" which prolonged our chances for survival. Racing down the corridors, we soon caught sight of our goal, the teleport arrays. Pushing himself harder, Tais managed to put forth another burst of speed but disaster struck.

Remember Tais getting splashed earlier? Well, it turns out there was a patch of floor that was still slightly damp and Tais slipped and slided like a baseball player toward the arrays. Normally this wouldn't be a problem as we are too near our goal and the pursuers are too far. As it so happens, a group of two guys and a girl in black between them just teleported in and it looks like we're about to crash into people again. Fortunately for all involved except for the pursuers, the two guys have great reflexes. Despite having no room to dodge, they pressed themselves against the walls of the narrow corridor and lifted the girl up, allowing us to slide pass underneath. That pervert Tais actually has the gall to mutter black which I assume was the colour of her undergarments as we pass by. Yelling apologies, while quickly activating the teleport array, we managed to escape and reach the CSDB.

Tais: Hey Yui, stop writing in your log and look at this.
Yui: I don't believe you. You just escaped hell and now you're surfing the web? I'd thought you'll be praying and thanking the God Empress for surviving.
Tais: I did. Its just that you took too long to write the log file.
Yui: I haven't completed it yet. Do whatever you want and let me complete it.

Stupid Tais, interrupting me just to look at some plain black online counseling site about removing the sorrow of whoever's name is entered. Knowing that stupid guy, he would probably enter his own name and talk the ear off the counselor. Better end this log here before he gets into more trouble. I don't need another homicidal person after us due to his stupidity.

Somewhere in MD6 HQ grounds, Five Minutes Later.

“You know Ashton… we should have followed Captain Vincent and the other officers…” one of the two mystery mages of the Silvana, one girl with long straight brown hair and crystal brown eyes, began to complain to a fellow male, one with similarly colored, but short and messy hair, with somewhat familiar blue eyes. “That’s why you’re always getting into trouble.”

“I know… but look at this place- it’s as grand as Kagami.”

“You know we have our own base to get lost in- Kagami is much larger than this base… why don’t you do that over there? And besides, the people here might reprimand us…” the girl tried to reason but then looked and saw no one. “Hey! I’m not done talking here!”

Then, the girl spots a cat lying lazily on the grass near a door.

“Awww… a kitty…”

Back to our main group…

“Impressive base. I guess you hired the same contractors for Kagami.” Kyla commented.

“Well yes- actually they were the first ones that came to us.” Hayate replied.

“Opportunity knocking huh? And how are you guys?”

“Well despite the Relic case, we managed to do fine really…” Fate then answered.

Hayate then introduced the group to the cafeteria and to some more sections of the base.

At one area, which was the hangar...

“Sorry if we don’t have a lot of the transports and vehicles that we have been used to see back at Kagami…” Hayate then spoke. “As you can see,
some simple land vehicles and our helicopter Storm Raider are the only vehicles we have for now.

“Well, since you guys are still ground, it figures, though fast and well protected transports are an edge in any battlefield.” Kyla commented. “Remind me to sign off a couple of the Maids’ transports to your team…”

Meanwhile, the blue eyed guy known as Ashton was lost.

In a side building beside the main base building.

Passing a sign that said “Personnel Quarters”.

Without even looking at it.

“Now where am I?” he thought as he wondered the hallways of MD6’s personnel quarters.

Meanwhile in the showers, Subaru was happily cleaning and refreshing herself in the water pouring over her somewhat hot skin.

“This is really the best!” she could only sigh in glee.

Meanwhile, the girl companion was now cuddling and playing with the cat, enjoying every bit of it, until someone shook her mental line.

“Serenade… are you there Serenade?” Vincent’s voice came in. “Report in!”

“I’m outside Captain…”

“Where the heck are you and Mcdouglas?”

“I lost him over here outside…” the girl could only reply- boy, did Captain Vincent seemed pissed.

“That idiot must be at the personnel quarters near you… confirm that!”

“I can see a side bulding… and yes it’s the quarters- I’ll look into it…”

“You better be- the admiral’s entourage are going to visit that area in a few minutes… find and bring him here!”

“Yes…” she could only say. “Sir…”

“That’s funny admiral… really?” Nanoha giggled at one of Kyla’s stories- with Yuuno embarrassed- yup typical Kyla behavior.

They collide and land- the boy on his back, managing to catch the girl and stop her from impacting against him. They were both fazed for a moment, but Subaru gained her senses first and saw how the stranger managed to catch her.

However, it’s still a barrier, and so long as the outer layer of it is broken after Phase I…it’s possible to create a field inside the barrier to block its effects. The only problem is that…the barrier’s diameter is at least 80 miles…

Even if I compress the radius, and solely focus on the height… I can barely top 30 miles in length. That is why…this woman’s help is necessary.

If we channel our spells together…it should reach 60 miles hopefully…

And the General himself should be able to cover 10 miles within 5 seconds at his top speed.

It’s ridiculously optimistic of a plan…but it’s better than nothing, I suppose.

Her hand is surprisingly…small. Okay, I’m ready for her to be pissed off at me right now.

Okay, what’s with this silence instead? It’s unnerving…

“What? I’m sorry I did that without permission, but both of us having each other’s single device should improve the synchronal-rate of the field spell, especially if we’re to combine our magical output. If you want to save your princess, borrowing this shouldn’t be a problem to you.”

So, Shamal said…as she giggled lightly.

“Oh, you’re definitely hiding someth-…”

As I felt a burst of energy from the direction of the black mass… Isdera’s…

As we saw the outer walls of the black barrier slow dissipate internally, and lost an external extension of probably 5 miles, we wasted no time. We need to prevent the barrier from reforming itself by blocking it with a field…

As I transferred every ounce of my magical strength to channel my spell…I focused on only one thing.

To go forward.

“Spiral.”

“Chain!”

“Field!!!!”

As we simultaneously gave it our blow, standing side by side, we raised our arms up as I expanded my chains longer…and longer…into a complete spiral… pushing out deeper and deeper…as I sensed it…something converging, pressing and forcing to break through the field, as my chained barrier pathway entered the depths of the barrier.

She too…contributed as she concentrated…pushing her limits to support and extend her own radius of a barrier, as I sense something…intertwined into the gaps of my chain…Is this her Klarwind’s string?

Her thread, and my chains…They’re both interwoven as one as they continued to push further…deeper and deeper, closer to the heart of the black mass, as I could make out its shape now…

Now…the image in my brain materializes as I see a small spiraling tunnel being formed from our chain and threads… It is complete.

Now…to hold it…and push further…

“General!!!!!”

I screamed off the top of my lungs, signaling the 3rd and last Phase of this mission... as I looked up and saw him… Saga, concentrating his magical energy, his body poised down at the end of the runway, like panther ready to jump on its prey…

“I know.”

Thank you…Isdera, Astra, Shamal… This time, it’s my turn.

Placing my hand on the ground, my legs and knees poised for a bursting impulse, I lowered my gravitational center as I merely looked forward… 80 miles from here… Tiara is there…

I ran as fast as I could down the runway…

At that instant, as I saw the vast world beyond me, the skies above, the grounds below, and the darkness in front of me…

A strange surge rushed through my body, as my wings sprouted once again from the unison with Null, just as I leaped forward and flew as fast as I could towards the single light of silver, a small spiraling pathway amidst the concentration of pure darkness.

I flew as hard as fast as I could…not slowing down, just faster and faster as I wrapped myself with my wings amidst the burning battlefield.

*Was shattered by the strength of the fist that gripped it*

As I crossed the moonlight…I saw the battered body of Isdera…armless, his legs chopped off, yet he was still smiling…as he gave me a thumbs up. Even at his state…

That is why…

As I entered the black mass of darkness, there was one path forward, a small pathway made of spiraled chains and threadings… as my wings grazed the metals, I simply looked on straight…faster and faster.

In front of me…I saw black masses forming out into shapes of flying black knives and tentacles, as they reached out to strike me, preventing me from going further…

I simply drew out Null from my waist, as I slashed the impending darkness with a side-slash, breaking apart its volatile, slimy substance of black energy, and following that, a high-speed blast by Arkwind.

I was progressing smoothly…but then…I saw, the black masses…interweaving itself at the edges of the chains as they pressed on…to the source of it.

They’re aiming for…Astra and Shamal!

“Just like this, woman! Focus!”

*As their weight both prevent us from going further*

Everything’s progressing smoothly…At this rate, it may even be possible for us to extend our field all the way to the epicenter…

Wait…what is this feeling? The morbid air that is caused by that black energy…is getting thicker…closer…

As I concentrated even further…I could sense…something coming our way, quick!

“Shamal! Be careful! There’s someth-“

“Urghh!!!”

It was too late… the black mass had just crawled using our chains…to reach us, and then forming into the shape of solid blades…stabbing us at our vitals…

My eyes were hazy, blood were pouring out of my pores, as I felt my guts, my lungs, my arms, my legs…punctured and bleeding furiously…

I presume the same had happened to Shamal…

God…damn…it….. I’m losing my control over…the field…And there’s still 25 miles…left…

However, as my raised arms were dropping, another grabbed hold of it, preventing its fall…

“Don’t fall…to this…injury…so…easi..ly…You’re…a man…right?”

“Shamal…”

Even so… We probably can last less than a minute…what…can…we…do?

I can be shot.

Wha..t?

I just need to be… shot… one last time.

This voice…Wira? That crystallized spear?

It may be nothing more than a whim’s hallucination at his deathbed, but it’s dying a pitiful death.

And as I did that…I felt every cell in my body break down, as my knees failed me…dropping down the upper weight of my body, as I sat, leaning against the wall…

“So…the barrier’s failed…It’s up to you now…Wira.

Damn it…what a pathetic way to die. Don’t you agree…Shamal?”

There was no response…In fact, I felt nothing… I meekly moved my arm a little…as I felt it, a soft feeling of flesh… Shamal’s palm?

There was no pulse…so, she died too…

Well…this wasn’t how I expected my life to end, but I suppose…dying hand to hand with another girl, even in this sort of situation, with this kind of iffy woman… isn’t all too bad.

“It’s…all…up…to…yo…u…now….Sa…ga…”

With that, I passed on, alone, unknowingly to anyone…The only witness was the feeling of another hand I grabbed hold…a hand which wore a set of rings, thin and elegant, with the only exception of her ring finger, which wore Vorhang… while mine too, a set, with my little finger, wearing her Klarwind…

What…is this…feeling? It felt as if… something, far far away had vanished.

Yet, I continued to strive forward, but soon it dawned…the barrier, the field that were protecting me from the Diabolic End…is breaking…down…

Astra, Shamal…the both of you…

All of a sudden, pain seeped into my body as I felt myself being consumed by the darkness, consuming my life, my strength…everything…

Yet I didn’t slow down, as I continued to fly forward. Yet with each passing second, I felt my life slowly being drained away…

“Only…10…miles…left…”

Damn it…Am I going to die here? Without even being able to save her…

All of a sudden, I felt my spine being penetrated as a another mass of red touched the edges of my back…just as the crystallized red spear slowly turned to liquid, as it covered my body, protecting me from Diabolic End…while the red armor itself, is slowly being chipped away in replace of mine.

Go…Saga.

“Wira?”

I continued on and on…the scent of blood covering me as I flew further…

The weight of the blood, as time passed became lighter…and lighter… as its layers were slowly chipped away.

As I reached the center point…the armor broke off and shattered into pieces, leaving behind only one small crystallized orb of blood, the size of a ruby…

At the epicenter… there I saw it, a concentrated black sphere, like a monstrosity.

Brandishing my wings, and my blade, I thrusted forward to the center as I striked it with Null, a repelling clash as the internal barrier shied away from my attack, dealing nothing.

All of a sudden, I was surrounded by countless formations of daggers, leaving no blindspot, from all angles and directions, like a cloud of rain, ready to blast me off.

“Bloody…”

“Arkwind!!! Exceed Burst!!”

[Arkwind!]

“Dagger.”

Clasping my arm together… I forcefully formed 10 small arrays of the Belkan Triangle, one at each finger, as I blasted away the daggers that shot towards me, preventing a direct kill... my entire body was scratched, and injured…but I’m still alive…

Isdera, Wira, Astra, Shamal…all of my comrades…all of them had put their lives on the line for my selfish wish to save you…

That is why…

“Null! Load All Cartridges!”

I blasted my entire barrel, 6 shots in continuation as I ready myself for one last strike…

I slammed Null directly into the black sphere, her edge at the outer barrier…as I further concentrated…

One array…2 arrays….3 arrays…

I summoned 3 Belkan Triangle arrays, forming a gigantic Belkan Triangle, as each point of the triangle, focused, condensed, and pushes all its final burst of energy…

“TORAHAATOOOOOOOO BUREKAAA EX!!!!”

9 beams of pure magical energy…spirals into 3….as it combined back into one full powered burst of energy, matching the full powers of 3 Tri-Heart Breakers…

“Please…break though…destroy this darkness!!!

*The gentle and shining wound in the flow of time*

ATARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Within that instant…the entire walls that made out the darkness of the sphere broke down…as I return to the world that is filled with the shine of the moonlight amidst a burning battlefield, and from within that dark sphere…Tiara emerged…

“Tiara!!!”

I couldn’t control my feelings…seeing her again made me feel alive, as I rushed in and hugged her tight… “Thank god…thank god…”

“Saga…Is that…you… you’re….still…alive….thank…god…”

“I promised, didn’t I? That I would live…for your happiness? Death isn’t enough to stop me.”

We embraced each other… as we floated in the sky of the night...

“Saga…I… what I did…”

“Enough, Tiara…none of that matters…you were not yourself…what matters is that, now you are.”

Tiara…could only smile…as we slowly broke off our embrace…

Tiara gave me a smile like never before. A truly beautiful smile, of happiness…of acceptance…of thankfulness…

“Saga…I was truly glad, that I was able to meet you…

Goodbye.”

She couldn’t… As she said those words, she grabbed the edge of Null…the sharp edge of the Belkan Cross at the edge of my device, as she stabbed herself with it…



“TIARRRAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!”

And what followed after that…was an explosion.



An explosion of condensed magical power…reaching out to miles in range, destroying everything, in its path… for some reason…only I and Tiara…was unaffected.

As the twilight slowly ended…Tiara was lying down, black blood flowing out of her wound, as I held her like she did before me… as I cried…my tears dripping down her cheek…

“Why? Why?”

Tiara only smiled, painfully as she spoke…

“It is…already too late for me… I was already…tainted with darkness from the overflow of magical energy… If you didn’t kill me now, the unison would eventually consume me again… and it would eventually kill you too. This…is the best choice. This is the weight I have to carry…as the one who inherited the Night Sky.”

"In the end...I couldn't even save you..."

"No...you saved me, Saga... You saved me more than I could ever imagine... You saved from this nightmare, just you being here eases me... I am truly thankful."

I couldn’t say anything… I merely looked at her, as I cried…

“Don’t cry, Saga… Smile for me. I love your smiles, I loved your voice…your dreams, your passions… I loved everything of you… I loved you, so please…do not be sad.”

I tried to hold my tears…I tried to smile…for her sake… I never knew it was this painful to smile.

Soon…the body I held of her…was slowly disappearing, as she slowly turned into particles, diminishing away…

“Tiara!”

“Don’t worry…Saga. I promised…didn’t I? Even in my death…even if I forget everything…so long as I’m reborn in this world…I’ll definitely come, to love you again…

Until then….

Goodbye…Saga.”

As she said that…her entire body vanished into nothingness, leaving nothing of her behind… the only thing left…was a tome with a Belkan Cross etched on it…

I reached out to it…as I held it hard towards my chest, as I cried…and cried…

The Princess of the Night Sky is no more… the war is won… this was what I started this journey…this war, our years of battles, suffering…



So that I could stand alongside my comrades, my friends, walking a path of peace for this land…

But now…as I looked beyond the horizon of countless bodies, a blood-filled battlefield…comrades who have now become heroes… friends who are no more… a promise that I couldn’t fulfill…



What was the meaning of this?

Now that the hard part's over...the next one is the Epilogue... one of which you already knew with the Isdera/Saga part, and the other is the King/Saga part...where we see him letting go of his knighthood.
