I wouldn't build much expectations on that, "game engine footage" is a coy industry term for CGI rendered with the game engine (which could be running on anything) and not representative of " in-game footage".

Lack of prequel content at launch seems normal since the first DLC (free) will be based on the Sequel content. Battle of Jakka I think they call it. The desert world we've been seeing in the teasers with all the war wrecks on it. Having it based on original trilogy makes since if they intend to use the game to tell stories heading forward, rather than backward (also less models they need to make). The push it for Sequel content and Rebels era content rather than Prequels content. Maybe later? Some Clone Wars DLC? Going back as far as the Battle of Naboo will depend entirely on if the design team wants to model Gungans.

this is one game where i will be buying all the DLCs day one....lets just hope they dont go overboard like the watchdog dlc debacle. I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN MORE THAN 2 OPTIONS! standard and Deluxe. God i hope they dont takes bits of the game out on launch, and sell us a map for 20 bucks each...come on EA release one game without polluting it with your greed

It's pretty much industry standard at this point.

The panel said the game comes out in November. The first free DLC will be the Battle of Jakka on December 8th (with preorder people able to get the DLC a week early on the 1st of December). The battle is suppose to be a year or so after The Battle of Endor as the Alliance/New Republic fight the remains of the Empire over this planet. The results show why there are things like a crashed Star Destroyer on this planet some 30 years later.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what is nothing more than highly-scripted footage; those things are seldom representative of the real deal. It's DICE we're talking about here: unless it's SP campaign-related, they tend to dumb down textures and objects for MP and leave the juicy, eye-catching part for the SP. Just look back at Battlefield 4 and its multiplayer maps (BF3 had better MP textures IMHO, but that's just me).
Additionally, I have the feeling that DICE's Frostbite engine is going to leave the gamers with a truckload of bugs on the first couple of days. Visceral Games was more successful than DICE when it came to releasing Battlefield Hardline (though they spectacularly dropped the ball on things such as the rage-inducing TDM spawns), but for some reason I have the feeling that DICE won't follow the pattern and is going (with or without EA's profit-motivated prodding) to screw something up.

To be fair, Attendees & others who got to witness actual gameplay footage said it pretty much looked more or less the same from what I read elsewhere. Take that as you will.
Rather than graphics though, since I'm sure it'll look good either way or whatever, I hope they focus more on making sure it works at launch. It's a different team(?) so hopefully it goes down better and they spend a decent amount of time polishing it. I really like the sound of what's been said so far. |
